  My ex-MIL told that to my kids in front of me once (my 12yo was going thru a huge Beatles phase). I got a disgusted look on my face and the kids figured it was just more of Nanny's bullshit... ~merfi

  How Did Being Referred To As A “Brother” Or “Sister” Make You Feel?

  Father's Day is Coming...

  i have been out for 2 years now.

  i have spoken once to my father who is a jw in that time.

  he said i would get a letter from him telling me where to 'straighten up', but it has never come.

  I guess I'd do one of two things -- either just send a Father's Day card with maybe a personal note if you really want to sorta use the holiday, or call him and tell him you're thinking of him without mentioning the holiday.

  That's just my opinion, tho :)

  Long Beach Convention weekend is over!

  Why are congregations dissolved?

  only once in my life have i heard of a congregation being dissolved (closed down) for reasons of sin.. .

  has anyone here heard of congs being closed down?

  I have heard of it happening twice, I was not at either. The first was in the 1970's, in South Carolina. Mom said that it happened because of something called wife swapping. The elders were all disfellowshipped. And the other was in Iowa, don't know of the details, but one JW sister who was there said that the elders were teaching something other than what the Watchtower in New York was instructing. The elders were all disfellowshipped also. Woop I'm bad, the congeration at Iowa was not dissolved, but all the elders, but one was removed. And he was the one sent in as a spy to see if the acuations were true or not.

  hmm.. if you're trying to paste from Word, it won't work. Do a copy/paste from Wordpad is the advice I was given. Being unable to find it, I copy/pasted my Word thing into an email which changed the format. Then copy/pasted it here. Voila!

  Make up a bounced email reply. You know, that "mailer-demon" whatever that is that you get when you send an email to a dead addy.... And send it to him. He'll think your email address is gone and maybe won't bug you again..

  personally, i keep very little contact with any of my witness family except my mom.

  i don't miss the conditional friends or family, really.

  but i do know that many here are devastated by their being abandoned.

  No one who chooses a nameless, faceless corporation over a living, breathing, memory-sharing human being do i want as a friend.

  This sums it up for me. JW 'friends' of 15+ years ... *poof*

  Screw 'em. I've found and adore a whole bunch of genuine, 'thick and thin' friends that mean the world to me. And I know they won't turn their backs on me for not believing as they do.
