I was born and raised in the 'truth.' 30 years in I finally got a spine and decided it was a crock and then I never went back. At first I went through denial - denial that I had lost my youth through no fault of my own. After denial I got ANGRY and then ANGRIER. When I got really, really Angry I sought professional help and then I got depressed. I got depressed that nothing would ever change and that I was doomed to have to dodge polite conversations the rest of my life. Recently I got really happy because I'm no longer depressed. For me it took a solid year of questioning why things happened the way they did and therapy. I'm happier now than I have been in years. This forum is a constant source of happiness. I've met up with some old friends as well.

I was at work. My husband called and told me to turn on my radio. I couldn't believe what was going on. I was so scared. We live about 3 hours out from the city and I was wondering who they were targeting? It was so unbelievable. We wondered where our friends were and if everyone was safe? That Friday night we flew to Nashville for a friends wedding. The airport was silent. They confiscated my tweezers, security was really intimidating and I was really glad. When we flew home Sunday morning we flew over ground zero and the smoke was still billowing up into the sky, everyone on the plane was looking out the windows, some took pictures. Jim and I were humbled by the flight attendants and how awesome they were to everyone. They took everyone's feelings into consideration as we were all teary eyed as we flew back home into Albany. We all talked and showed pictures of our families and loved ones. As we drove home from the airport there were no con trails in the sky. That really struck us, it was one of the few times we ever saw the sky completely clean. It's weird because I reflect on that memory and think how we were still in the Borg then, in fact we had just been publicly reproved. It means more to me now. Now I am patriotic. I understand what it means to love the country I live in. I also define spiritual different now.

Has anyone else been referred to as a "New Wave Apostate"
by 30girl inone of my friends parents referred to us (my sweetie and i) as "new wave" apostates.
has anyone else heard this term, been referred to as one?
i was just wondering if this is a new attempt to squash critical thinking?

JimWood thinks perhaps I misunderstood and that she meant that there is a new wave of apostates coming through...whatever the case she's a former pioneer/elders wife who rarely attends meetings now but likes to stick her nose into everyone's business. I have to think that she is also referring to the internet and what Satanic people use it for. I know just last night we had to sacrifice our black cat because it was the last Tuesday of the month. That altar really is getting hard to explain to the neighborhood kids. It's also getting increasingly difficult to explain where are pets are disappearing to.

I was just wondering if this is a new attempt to squash critical thinking? Well, the good part is we are also confirmed (in our old circuit, NY22a)or known apostates! Wahoo. I think that means that we will be hosting an Apostafest in Upstate NY soon. Details, comments, reactions?

Who Was The Weirdest Person In Your Congregation?
by Arthur ini guess this is kind of a fun topic.
who was the weirdest person in your congregation or kingdom hall?
without naming names, who was the person that was the most creepy, eccentric, or "out in left field"?

That's a tough call, our Halls were packed w/them! Okay, here's a few: Sister They're Coming To Get Me -- and they did (the cops that is at a Thurs. night mtg) Brother White Socks (Whose wife left him for the aid/assistant on the school bus she drove)& he also provided my husband w/way too much info about his trouser snake -- I guess the confession that there was some difficulty finding a small enough catheter during a medical procedure...that one left my hubby shell shocked. I think the one that takes the cake is Brother Satan this is the one who gave an answer about praying with his 5 yr. old son -- he said something to this effect in an answer at a meeting that 'he hopes his son isn't listening too closely because it can be embarrassing the things that he has to admit to during their prayers but he felt it was important to be honest and open' (hey bonehead, how about saving your "dirty" sins for your personal prayer)... This is the same brother who tells his son that Satan is everywhere including sitting on the couch w/you while you watch TV. This brother also left magazines in our door with a message: Don't let Satan trick you now! He was actually surprised when we knew it was from him. He also felt that dreams are sins, especially of a sexual nature. He also got in a heated argument about pets being resurrected (btw, his viewpoint is that they will be, why would Jah let you form an attachment and then never reunite you w/Fido?) I'm pretty sure that's called anthropomorpic fallacy? I could go on and on.

Remember the Written Review
by 30girl inwhat exactly was the purpose of the written review?
it was extremely helpful that the society warned you on the calendars which night you had to skip... we had those boards that they passed out so you had a good writing surface, often covered with witness grafiti like, jesus or jehovah or something biblical.
remember the little grading sheet on the back; excellent, very good, good -- was there a poor?

They still have it but as pointed out earlier they call it the Oral review -- still as annoying but now you get it in advance so you can prepare ahead of time - oh boy, more chances to impress/out answer one another.

I'm so sorry you are hurting and depression is something you shouldn't take lightly. Seriously, if you are thinking bad thoughts or of hurting yourself -- get help now, don't wait. As for this woman returning to the loser, it's a really part of the cycle in abusive relationships. I'm sorry you were pulled in and that really stinks. She may get to a point where she realizes that he will never change without help and unfortunately for most women that doesn't happen right away. My sister stayed with an abusive husband for five years before she finally left and he was physically abusive (a witness too -- shocker, right?) She had to learn on her own that he was not going to change despite all of the pleading, promising and begging that he did. Very, very, very few men are ever able to make the change, permanently. I wish you all the best but don't base your self worth on failed relationships. Get out of the house, exercise, go do something you love and most of all -- seek help if you need it. Talking out emotions is so very important. Again, I'm sorry for you hurt, in time things will change.
