Exorcism...........
by ButtLight ini have always wondered since i was a kid, why, say catholic priests, can do this, if they arent directed by gods holy spirit.
and of course we were tought they were false religions, and that its satans work to mislead us.
do you believe that they can actually cast demons out of someone, or that a person can even become demonized?

I'm with Monkeyshine. I used to love the stories of people who ran into talking animals out in service who told them to go away -- LOL. Now I consider the source. Funny you should mention spirits I just read the most interesting article from my Anthropology class. The experience was with him being Western and going into a culture that practiced witchcraft. He left with a different perspective on what is witchcraft and what a person can and will believe -- kinda like Plato's allegory of the cave??

Who cleans the KH?
by solo ini just had a flash back to when we used to have to clean the kh.
each group had to take it in turn to do the cleaning.. in our group we had a bunch of lazy b*****ds, so it was left to us kids and our dad to clean the kh, bogs, etc.
even my mum used to find some excuse to duck out.. so if meetings, door knocking, studying, praying wasn't enough we also had to spend a couple of hours cleaning every month or so.

ROFLMAO Our Hall rotated by bookstudy. The bookstudy was at our house and had poor attendance. One time just the conductor showed up for service/cleaning and it was my two girls and the conductor who cleaned the Hall. No joke. I cleaned both bathrooms, babyroom, kitchen, 2nd school, foyer, coatrooms, swept and mopped and dusted while he vacuumed the front of the Hall, eventually I helped with the vacuuming too. He wasn't a professional cleaner but I had years of experience from working for a brother who had a maintenance company and working for my mother who cleans houses.

Has the rules changed?
by pratt1 ina relative of my wife, just got engaged to a "worldly guy".. the young lady is a baptized publisher, and i am shocked to hear that no one has made a negative comment about her future husband not being an dub.. even her mother who is a pioneer has not made an issue of the engagement.. has things changed?.
are the elders easing up a little on the rank and file?.

That's one lenient BOE. My girlfriend was disfellowshipped for dating her now current husband. Then again, the local congregations were famous for going on witch hunts and it was particularly ironic that her father was KING of telling people how they should raise their children -- Presiding Overseer, haughty, insincere, EXTREMELY judgmental and whamo! His daughter starts dating a worldly guy, rumors circulate and get out of control, speculations were made and the body that her own father had trained to be omniscient and heartless when they dealt with the rest of the youth in the Hall turned on his own and DF'd her. Even more ironic, her father was offended when there was a talk given on associating with anyone DF'd and the talk made specific points about sitting with relatives and offering them support(she used to sit with them at the meetings) -- he left the meeting all upset, my mother (being sincere in her question, as they are friends) asked him what was wrong and her told her, "how would you feel if you were sitting there listening to comments about you from the stage and everyone knows it's directed at you"? Guess he didn't like a taste of his own medicine, they never do. This particular brother was one of 3 who rejected my application to pioneer (they formed a committee) on the basis that I was seeing my current husband. I denied that we were a couple because we weren't yet and when he continued to insist he pressed on with the issue saying "my daughter seems to think you're a couple" mmmmm, yes, that took the cake! My husband and I were both baptized, I had graduated high school early with the intention to pioneer and I was an outstanding publisher in good standing, we both were. The big deal, I wasn't quite 18 yet. I found it ironic that he used to measure all the kids in the congregation according to his perception of his daughter, we all knew her and knew better subsequently so did our parents. Once things hit the fan with his daughter everyone couldn't help but feel vindicated as he had been overly oppressive with the rest of the parents and their children in the Hall. Today my girlfriend won't talk to me. She is reinstated and spends all her free time with her parents. I feel sorry for her. Once she was reinstated they haven't let her out of their sight, even though she's married. She's a shell of a person now, I think they did get her soul.

Apologists - how should we treat them here?
by AK - Jeff ina point of great controversy at times.
sometimes posters are restricted or even denied privilage of this board.. some are quick to condemn such actions, others are quick to applaude it.
this is after all a former witness board.

I realize I'm just a baby on this forum but I have truly found what I was looking for when I started reading and posting. I say bring 'em on if they wish only as long as they adhere to the rules. Ozzie is right, the duck and cover posts are insulting to those who are interested in actually carrying on conversation as opposed to being subjected to propaganda and one sided rhetoric.

How many of you are still "active Witnesses"?
by exwitless ini'm curious about some of you who post here and say that you attend jw meetings regularly.
what motivates you to post here, and does anyone in your congregation have any clue you're doing that?

3rd -- I personally didn't read all of your posts but the ones I did read are mechanically written. Nice job, you managed to leave out any indication that you might be a human. Come on, you're in the writing department aren't you and you do this on the side to vent your frustration from all the phone calls you receive every day? You mean to tell me that you sincerely believe that anyone who disagrees with the Watchtowers policies (as a corporation) is an apostate? You accuse all of us "apostates" as feeding each other with hate. Tell me, 3rd, at what age were you brought before your first Judicial Committee? You shouldn't make blind accusations that we as a group haven't seen both sides, you're kidding yourself. The WTS is accountable for the actions of their Elders because the Elders are shepherding their flocks. It's not a matter of black and white. You're dabbling with Ethos. There is an ethical responsibility that is bestowed upon unqualified men who are in a position of leadership/power w/in their congregations. Just because you say that these men act as humans with free will and subsequently don't always follow the WTS directives, well now, that doesn't mean the decisions they make don't affect the lives of the people they're counseling, guiding, directing, etc. You're right, we can't find specific verbage telling people not to seek psychiatric counsel, etc. but implied language is just as powerful as stating what you mean, is it not, brother? You must also admit that all the talks and Watchtower discussions digested by the R&F don't appear in any JW publications. What you can't prove is just as damning. You know that Elder's talks will have thier individual intonation, leading verbage and yet, haven't we been admonished to take notes and reflect back on the points? What about all the District Conventions, Circuit assemblies with thier specified themes -- really, you must think we don't remember what we heard. Perhaps your perceptive powers have been erased? Please don't pretend that the members of this board can't differentiate between the actions of a corporation and a religious organization. What is alarming to people about your post is that you defend the actions of the WTS as a corporation and the majority of us identify the Borg with our personal experience of it acting like a religious organization the majority of our lives only to have the carpet pulled out from under us to discover that the WTS is now going to act like a corporation in order to defend itself. You can bury us with your repetitive facts of this case over and over again but what stands out is that the society operates on the whole by distorting and concealing facts so they don't get caught lying. You won't succeed in censoring anyone's opinions here. You may want to go back to the Hall where you already have people conditioned to take your word as gospel, already agree with your existing opinions. Go sell crazy somewhere else, we're all full up here.

I was born and raised in the 'truth.' 30 years in I finally got a spine and decided it was a crock and then I never went back. At first I went through denial - denial that I had lost my youth through no fault of my own. After denial I got ANGRY and then ANGRIER. When I got really, really Angry I sought professional help and then I got depressed. I got depressed that nothing would ever change and that I was doomed to have to dodge polite conversations the rest of my life. Recently I got really happy because I'm no longer depressed. For me it took a solid year of questioning why things happened the way they did and therapy. I'm happier now than I have been in years. This forum is a constant source of happiness. I've met up with some old friends as well.

I was at work. My husband called and told me to turn on my radio. I couldn't believe what was going on. I was so scared. We live about 3 hours out from the city and I was wondering who they were targeting? It was so unbelievable. We wondered where our friends were and if everyone was safe? That Friday night we flew to Nashville for a friends wedding. The airport was silent. They confiscated my tweezers, security was really intimidating and I was really glad. When we flew home Sunday morning we flew over ground zero and the smoke was still billowing up into the sky, everyone on the plane was looking out the windows, some took pictures. Jim and I were humbled by the flight attendants and how awesome they were to everyone. They took everyone's feelings into consideration as we were all teary eyed as we flew back home into Albany. We all talked and showed pictures of our families and loved ones. As we drove home from the airport there were no con trails in the sky. That really struck us, it was one of the few times we ever saw the sky completely clean. It's weird because I reflect on that memory and think how we were still in the Borg then, in fact we had just been publicly reproved. It means more to me now. Now I am patriotic. I understand what it means to love the country I live in. I also define spiritual different now.
