I was counseled, during field service, for wearing a suede-type shoe that looked too "casual" for the ministry. I was later counseled for wearing a Members Only style jacket in the ministry. The jacket counsel was given directly, but it was also first given indirectly, during a meeting for field service. The conductor commented on how we should all look 'uniform' in the service, and there I was with my jacket, feeling like I was being singled out. I confirmed with an elder later that yes, the comment was meant for me.

Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'
by Esmeralda inthe posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.
here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.
though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

I received the e-mail at my work computer today, fw'd by a JW. I barely read it and then deleted it. To me, that's the treatment it deserved.

Gabby Study Conductors

Last two bookstudies I have been assigned to, I have noted that the conductor seems to talk - alot -during the study. At Elder's school and during visits of the C.O. we were encouraged to ask questions, drawing answers out from those in attendance. But the gabby conducting seems to continue unabated. As a result of this talkativeness, the group looks around, up at the ceiling, down at the book, wherever.
The cause of this is, IMHO, a lack of confidence by the conductor in his group, who usually show no indication that they can offer any comment beyond what is printed in the book being studied. Hence, El Conductor feels the need to gab. It would be take effort as well as a (great deal of) patience to draw out further comments by the group with questions, but of course, El Conductor is tired and stressed from his myriad responsibilities, and his brain is shutting down like everyone else's, so he does the easy thing - he gabs.

Tina, I just wanted to say how sorry I am to read about your experience with your ex-husband. Also, yes, your cry for help was obviously ignored/mishandled. May God be with you.

I had the #4 assignment in the TMS last week, rs134. I got a "w" because I did not make any application to the modern day Witnesses. Well, sorry, but in my mind I was unable to get up there and sincerly say that JWs being wrong so many times does not make them false prophets. Their whole line of reasoning is specious at best. So I simply related the info presented and got off the platform. I'll take the "w" anyday.

Joel, if you are indeed leaving for good, take care!
I agree that time spent here, or just about anywhere in cyber space, can be better put to use in other activities. Although I do believe that some of the people on this board seem nice, it's just not the same thing as enjoying the people that we can see with our own eyes and come in contact with as we endeavor to live our lives.

What I heard the JW's say in light of this tragedy
by Bridgette inokay, i know (or want to believe) that not all jehovah's witnesses are this calloused.
at least i hope not.
there are some good, caring people, but here are some stark contrasts i've observed today that remind me of how glad i am that i'm not part of such an overall unloving group of people.

I am a Witness, and I have been shocked and deeply saddened by the attack on the US. I feel awful for everyone affected by this heinous crime.
Is this perhaps the start (or continuation) of world wide action against religion? Maybe, maybe not. But for me, the important thing now is those poor people who have been victimized and their families.
But I must admit, before the bookstudy last night, the brother praying only mentioned the "brothers" in NY. My wife and I discussed that after the bookstudy, and we agreed that he should have mentioned ALL people who may have been affected by this tragedy.

Loyalty to Org and jah WT 9/1/01
by Tina indid anyone who received this wt ,notice that loyalty was only extended to the org, marriage mates and family 'who are believers' the rest of you moms and dads sisters and brothers, etc.
you're out in the cold.. the article is titled,'what does it mean to be loyal?'....
is this damage control?

DB
Pete,
I think the comment in the WT was accurate, in that God does provide the earth and its bounty for man's use. Much of the problem with poverty in third world countries in attributable to man's own short-sightedness and inadequacy in dealing with such things. -

Tina, I noticed the word "believing" in that article also. I must admit, I found it a bit odd. My guess is that loyalty to an unbelieving family member could result, in certain situations anyway, in a compromise of Bible principles, at least from the JW point of view.

That's fine BW. Then take your Bible, go out, and preach to others about God's Kingdom, just like Jesus and his disciples did.
