As a slightly different angle on this, I submit that many jws actually would rather go to empty homes than preach to actual people.
I have noted in several cases that when street work is mentioned, most jws shy away from it. Let's face it, it's easier to go up to a door and ring the bell, and then write down an address, than to actually have to speak to someone.

I have this site on my favorites list on my home computer. I have mentioned to my wife that I do access a discussion board on the Net, though I have not gone into any great detail as to the nature of this board. Because I have it listed on the favorites, she can readily access it, and so can my daughter....or any jws that visit my home....uh oh!

Highlights from Feb 8,2002 Awake
by LDH in1. qfr page 30 comment reads:.
i enjoyed the article "cathedrals--monuments to god or men?
" (june 8, 2001) but isn't it true that jws build rather large kingdom halls and asembly halls?.

The one that bothered me most was the 'extreme physical abuse'. To me, this gives abusive husbands license to continue being abusive. Who is to define "extreme"? Physical abuse of ANY sort out to be strongly condemned; and then there's the emotional and physological abuse that is waged in abusive relationships.

Should Catholics leave their religion?
by DB inin the light of the recent news about child abuse scandals within the catholic church, would you encourage a catholic to leave his/her religion?.
.
thanks!

I'll reveal why I asked the question: today at work, a Catholic guy who works in my office and I had a discussion about the abuse thing. I asked if his priest mentioned it at all in his church and he said no.
He added that it seems that the thinking there is to ride it out and hope that the Church inproves over the long run.
Being a jw, one might think my first instinct would be to reason with him as to why he should consider leaving, but instead I had no such desire; it seems as though he is content with his faith. It's the religion of his family, and his grand mother does not seem overly disturbed by the scandal either.
Normally, a jw would be like a shark in the water at a situation like this, ready to give a thorough witness. But, the situation in the jw organization with regard to pedophiles makes it hard for me to recommend it as a solid alternative to Catholicism.
Also, since the guy seemed relatively undisturbed by the whole thing, I figured why push it? If a person is okay with their faith, I for one have always been hesitant to try to convince them that what they believe is wrong. I am the type that does not enjoy confrontation, so perhaps that factors in too. -

The Watchtower's 'Lost Generation'
by metatron ini visited some relatives in my extended family and found exactly.
the same situation as elsewhere in witness congregations.. the next generation of witnesses isn't there.. a friend of mine, who still goes to some meetings, made the.
same observation independently.

Met, I have noticed that the next genertaion of ministerial servants, elders, and possibly even pioneers may not be there. It seems that fewer and fewer brothers (at least in my area anyway) are reaching out for privilages. In my previous congregation, we went years without any high school grads taking up the pioneer work, and that includes for the most part auxilliary pioneering too.
And yes, I also have noted that many young ones formerly regular at meetings now attend infrequently, and in all likelihood many do lead double lives.

The most boring book in the Bible.
by sleepy inwhat did you find the most boring book to read in the bible?.
its a hard choice as there's so many to choose from but i have to go with psalms.flipping nora it take for ever to read, is written in some incomprehensible way, and is about nothing!

There are certain sections of the bible that I find boring, or at least difficult to read without getting sleepy: The first 9 chapters of 1 Chronicles, the latter part of Leviticus (priests determining cleanness of lepers, etc), the last few chapters of Ezekiel ( the temple vision), the last few chapters of Exodus (the tabernacle specs and construction).
Far be it from me to criticize the bible, but I really do wish that the creation account of Genesis would be longer and more detailed. I have a few unanswered questions about that period in earth's history. :):)
