Very powerful. She kept me in the borg for 35 years. I wanted to get out from about the age of 15, so that's 20 years of my life spent against my will as a JW, mainly because of my 'o so strong in the truth' mother.

How powerful were our mothers as JWs?
by restrangled innewboy started a wonderful topic about jw fathers, but thinking back my mother had more power.
her entire family was jw's and had amazng influence through the years, including over my elder father.. her own mother was a convert during rutherford's early years out of the 7th day adventist religion.
my mom and her brothers and sisters were some of the ones that wore the plackards that religion was a snare and a racket.

Time to simplify
by RollerDave infunny how life can be.. you chase your dreams, mean well, do your best to live large, and twist life bu the nipples; but there's only so many hours in a day, only so many days in a week, and only 365.25 days in a year.. i realize i'm swamped.
i find myself rolling around like a big fat chicken on wheels that has been separated from his head quite suddenly.. i think i have become the victim of my own success.. the more you have, the more maintenance and upkeep you have to procrastinate.. i'm only a man, i can only avoid so much work!.
barely got the boat winterized before the cold, evil fingers of minnesnowta's dominant season could work their frigid havoc, boy, i am starting to wonder if i am really 'boat people.

Yeah I got dunked there in 1985. I was baptised with my cousin and a close friend. Of the 3 of us, 2 are now disfellowshipped. My cousin is a regular pioneer in Cyprus, married to an elder. My close friend and I are both happily divorced and disfellowshipped.
The picture of Bowes Road brings back memories. Do you remember the good old days of the hot lunches? And you could only go in to the restaurant when it was your 'sitting'.

I have given blood twice now, we have to wait 16 weeks between donations in the UK.
The first time the needle hurt a little going in, but the second time was fine. However, when you give blood for the first time they make you stay lying down for about 5-10 mins after donating. On my second go I was allowed to get up straight away. I had weird pins and needles in the arm and hand that they had taken the blood from, so I told the nurse and she told me to keep wiggling my fingers for a bit. The pins and needles stopped but then I came over really light headed and thought I was going to pass out. I told the nurse and she called for help and about 5 nurses came running over, it was so embarrassing. They layed me down and put a cold flannel on my head and I was ok in about 5 mins. The nurse told me that she could tell I was going to faint because all my colour had gone from my face. I had wondered why she kept hovering near me and asking me if I was ok.
Anyway, I'm still allowed to donate but I have to tell them next time about what happened and they will let me lie down for a bit so it doesn't recur.
I am such a drama queen, eh!

Have you changed your mind about ABORTION?
by nicolaou ini'm not after a discussion on the rights or wrongs on abortion, what i'm asking is whether or not your views have evolved over time.. perhaps leaving the watchtower was enough to allow your true feelings on abortion to find expression.
maybe abortion is one of those subjects where you still find yourself in agreement with your old jw self.
did becoming a mother change your perspective in any way or solidify your views?.

The idea of abortion repulses me, but that doesn't mean I think it is necessarily wrong.
I hate it when women use abortion as a form of contraception. If you can't afford to have a baby, go on the pill or use a condom!!
If there is something severely wrong with the baby or the mother has been raped or if the mother's life is at risk, then of course abortion is acceptable.
But I hate late abortions. I watched a programme on tv a couple of weeks ago and they were aborting a 15 week old fetus. The doctor crunched it's limbs off one by one and pulled them out. It was absolutely gross. And it's legal to abort a baby up to 24 weeks gestation. In one ward they will abort a fetus this old and in another they will be trying to save one in the neonatal unit. It doesn't make any sense.
I think the cut off should be 12 weeks, and in exceptional circumstances they should be done later but the fetus should be aneasthetised so they don't feel anything. The doctors are not unanimous on whether the fetus can feel pain or not.

Yes Ian we had a lovely weekend. We went to Norfolk to spend Ian's birthday with friends. The weather was lovely, we even sat out in the garden drinking wine.
