There's an old lawyer in my office who constantly is saying that computers are a "passing phase". We were so tired of hearing about his complaints about technology that when he was out in the morning, we took out his computer and put in a old time manual type writter, we took out his phone and gave him tin cans attached w/ string; we took out all his pens and put in a quill with an ink bottle; we took out all paper and replaced it with rice paper and carbons. Then we hung a sign outside his door saying - so-and-so died due to technology killing him. The attorney thought it was hysterical when he showed up and his office was cleaned out of anything from this century, but the funniest was when one of our service guys who knew the attorney on a passing basis only say the "here lies" sign we put up and really thought the attorney died, so when so-and-so walked into the service department the guy practically screamed and fainted. He actually walked over and hugged the attorney and told him he thought it was a mean joke to play on everyone because he was telling his colleagues that the attorney had died.

I will most likely do what I have the last three years, pull out the Bible, read those scriptures regarding the passover, christ's ransom and say a prayer. Why do I: 1) have to be invited by anyone the Hall is an open place or 2) hang out with a group of knuckleheads to appreciate the ransom paid. I always felt like it was Easter Sunday at the Hall ... gather as many bodies as we can find and fill the Hall ... Look at the number of potential people we have get to gather. Really, or are these the people that have been strong armed by family and friends to make an appearance. Not me, I don't need to have my head counted in order to count in the grand scheme of things.

Ahh, leave the poor guy from Texas alone. Don't you know he has to make broad sweeping statements, because everything is bigger in Texas.
As for you Aussies - we know, we know, Americans are putting a hole in the ozone with the use of our dryers. However, I refuse to use crusty towels and I will use my dryer - thank you. Repeat after me Dryers are our friends and this is not a third world country.
And as for the Brits. Sorry guys, I have discovered after visiting your fine establishment that Brits generally attacked all things because they enjoy taking the piss out of people. So I will assume that any argument that is had by a Brit is due to the fact that he is British and that is it.
If you get South Park you should watch the one on Global Warming and also the Smug Alert. Pretty good ones. As for global warming do I think it exists, well I do believe there was an ice age, so it is possible global warming is happening. Is it because Americans are using their dryers hmmm, I have not found concerte proof on this. But in my defense, I don't own a car as I walk to and from work and I talk public transport the rest of the time. So if I want to use my dryer I CAN GOOD AND WELL USE IT.
P.S. - BBC World News is great. World news in the states is all about the states, I have never figured that one out and have often said to others "but they do realize we are not the world, right?"

Do you honestly think the Witness religion will end?
by free2beme ini know that people here make comments about the religion having problems and growth not being anything other then children born into the faith and third world countries.
i even see them make comments about, "how much longer can this go on?
" yet honestly, do you really think the witness religion will end in our life time?

No I do not believe there will ever be an end to this religion. There will always be people who are lulled into the religion and stay for whatever reason. The numbers may not be increasing like they use to, but that does not mean that people are not joining. Also, the preaching work helps with getting the info out and getting new people. If they stopped doing that I am sure their numbers would go and and rapidly and then I might question whether the religion would fade or stay. But until then, no. There will always be people out there who like the initial message and come in based on that.

I always thought stickers were a no-no. But I do remember one the meccas to Bethel and Bethel had a pen that said something like "serve Jehovah daily" ??? something like that. We (my family and I) thought they were so tacky that we gave them out to friends as gifts and laughed hysterically when the person opened their gift and within it was the pen, they didn't know what to do ... do I act excited that I got this wonderful pen or do I say what I think WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU!

Great cartoon Honesty. Though I remember when I was pioneering, some guy came to the door naked, I am sure to frighten me. Ahhh, if they only knew what they taught us in pioneer school. I say a cartoon that said "how to stop JWs from calling" and the picture was of a door knocker and the flippy part was made up of a man's testicles. There was PO in the hall I use to go who was a complete yes man to the WTBTS and CO and my family and I called him rasinettes because we said he use to have b@lls but now they are shrivelled. So they may have used his for the door knocker, but I don't know.

Has the Jan 15 Watchtower worked?
by wombat ini regret the absence of wts apolgists in recent months.
they kept this board alive with their ridiculous statements.
but now it seems that they have all gone away.. assuredly they are all still lurking here (hello) to see what we are talking about but they can no longer claim their time posting here as field work.

Thanks Misspeaches that does explain a lot. Interesting history on how the site evolved.

I am new to this site, so you have to bear with me. I just assumed this was a site for non-Jws, ex-Jws or soon to be ex-Jws. Never ever did I think I would encounter an active bible thumping JW. The reason, I tried to get to earlier threads to figure out what the story was behind Tron and his reason for starting this community ... what I discovered was Simon was the one name and there was an post where Simon told someone to pound sand and either go to [someplace I cannot bother to remember] or H20. I got the impression the guy was a hater and Simon sent him on his way. So what is the story, there were and may currently be active JWs here that will actually argue doctrinal issues? Wow that sounds so much fun.

More of Mormon similarities...
by ringo5 ingot this post from an ex-mormon website and the similarities to the jw way of thinking are always enlightening.
i've got lots of thoughts.
there are lots of problems with mormonism, and in response mormons have developed a number of responses to "explain" them.

I think it depends on who you know. I have a close LDS friend and her family has shunned her because she is dating a non-LDS. I asked her why and when she explained it to me, I really thought I was talk'n to a JW who was dating a non-JW. Also, the special underwear thing is strange if you ask me. I think all fundamentalist religions are goofy. They have their thing, JW''s have their, 7th Day have theirs. And as for JWs, I still have active JW friends who are still very close friends of mine, no one has sold me down the river over a guilty conscious. These are people I have known since I was a baby and they have backed me and helped me out. So blanket statements only apply for the person who uses the blanket. So my blanket statement is all religions are goofy and all extermists regardless of their religion are goofy.

SUICIDE 'permanent solution to temporary problem'

The only suicides I have know of personally, all dealt with people who were not JWs. Within five years I have seen: one adult woman who was expecting her first grandbaby, she had commited fraud and it was catching up to her, a woman who had been diagnosed with CP and was in a lot of pain and two college age students who just could not handle the daily pressures any more. I don't believe it is a condition just suffered by ex-JWs or people questioning the JW faith. There are sites specifically geared for those who have lost loved ones due to suicide because of the guilt that those left living their lives experience. I think everyone would agree regardless of the faith, it is a very sad thing to experience.
