I don't remember my first worldly hero. But they have always been people I know. I do much better with people I have a relationship with because I am able to recognize their weakness and see that they work beyond them to become a better person. There was an old woman who lived across the street from us growing up and she was a hero to me because of everything she had lived thru. She was a feminist before the word was invented. I could picture her fighting for women's rights. She was a spit fire, but an amazing human being.

Your first "worldly" heroes?
by apfergus inone of the first things that i realized after i left the organization was that i could actually have human heroes who weren't bible characters.
now this will give you an idea of how much of a nerd i am, but the first person i began to idolize as a 17-18 year old teenager was richard p. feynman, the mid 20th century theoretical physicist.
of course, now i'm on my way to becoming a physicist myself, although i'm going into the experimental side instead of theory.

Are you addicted?
by greendawn inare you addicted to cigarettes or alcohol or perhaps some other habit that you would like to kick?
did you manage to fight successfully a habit in the past or planning a battle for the future?
i never had any addictions in the past except on sweet things which creates an excess weight problem, as many times as i tried to get rid of it up to now i failed.

I use to bite my nails. But slowly I worked on not biting one, then the next and eventually I stopped all together. Now I have really great nails. Because I am a chick this was a big deal to me. So I am happy about that.
I am addited to a soak in the tub. Every night in order to relax, I run a tub bath ... I have a deep soaker tub ... with really hot water. I turn the lights down and read something relaxing. It is an addiction, because I find that when I do not do it, it takes me forever to fall asleep, to get my mind to stop racing with all the things that happened during the day or could possibly happen tomorrow. Not a bad addiction the soaker tub, but an addiction still the same.

In ref. to child abuse
by jw in.
ok all time to get real.
child abuse is not limited to jw's.. if you truly want to stop child abuse first start with the family , and be honest we all have a relative that is a pedophile.. then protect your family from stranger danger.. don't just isolate to jw's.. expand and truly stop the child abuse world wide.

Lovelylil, unfortunately when a kid gets an idea in their head, they cannot let it go. So most likely this punk will show up again in the hopes that he can continue to pull people's chains. That is okay. I guess we are keeping him off the street doing something dangerous. I think this stuff is like ding-dong-ditch when I was a kid. You got a thrill out of it and the idea that you could get caught. Oh well. Like you said, no need to communicate any further with this kid. It would be like throwing pearls before swine.
Have a great evening LL. Much peace to your family.

Lovelylil, it must have been bed time, so the computer was shut off and no more mass postings. After I read your post, I had to agree with you. Some little kid with nothing to do but yank some chains. Funny how we fell for it. Interesting how the human psyche works.

I know the things hidden in the JW closet, my family has a JW library that goes to Taze's day, so this stuff about pryamids and divine plan of ages and mircle wheat, yada, yada yada was not a surprise to me. What was a surprise to me was that people did not know this already and that posts here show that most JWs did not know their religion's history.
As for coming here, I came here much later in the game. Long after I had faded. I came here because a friend who had long ago faded said that a lot of posters were pretty funny and said things that only JWs (or should I say ex-JWs) would understand. Kind of like insides jokes. Most of this crowd is pretty funny.
Kudos to all for visiting and staying regardless of their religion. It is the open minded one that makes the world a better place.

JW - this sentence makes no senses ...
You stated - I personally have posted child molesters on the internet but unfortunately the legal system made me take it down because even though I was a witness they had no crimminal conviction.
Were you an eye witness to the event, if so, WTF??? So are you saying you were present while someone was abusing a child? If you were a eye witness then you should have gone to the authorities and contacted local agencies. If you were saying that you were a Jehovah's Witness, I don't understand the purpose of stating your religion. Maybe the person was never charged with a crime because no "witnesses" were willing to come forward.
It appears to me that you are engaged in this thread in order to provoke people in a heated debate because you get a charge out of it. To each there own. For someone who seems to take issue with this forum as hostile and unnecessary, you are participaing it as well. That would lead one to question your true motive. If this site is such a waste of time, why are you here arguing with everyone.

The despairing cry of the loyal Jehovah's Witness.
by nicolaou ini found this thread on the justjw's forum.
it made me feel so sad for the poster, i wondered how long she'd been waiting for paradise to arrive.
checking her posting history reveals a very lonely 26 year old medical worker who swings between despair and delight..

Well JW, what are you doing here then, go off and help all those who need you ... the sexually abused children, your family members that are molesters (look at this poster's prior thread); JWs who are depressed and thinking of suicide; the list goes on and on. You are wasting your time here because we are all fine in our current state and you have lives to save. Go, quick, don't waste any more time here at this site.

No one here is throwing stones at the WTBTS and looking the other way when they see other abuse victims. People here are active in participating in changing the legal system, protecting the victims and pursuing and punishing the criminals.
And to act like JWs do not hind behind their religion to sheild themselves from guilt associated with this "don't tell policy" you are very wrong. I have seen it happen both within the congo and within the judicial system (wherein a JW elder explained in a deposition what the policy was for not turning in a molester "it was a congregational matter and was to be handled by the congregation. should the police investigate, the elders would not hinder the investigation, but they would not HELP either.").
Rather then JWs being concerned about a bad witness, they should be concerned about COWARDS that lead their congregations. There are certain constants in the world, things at are WRONG one being molesting a child and the people who hide the acts of the molester to make themselves and/or their religion look better.
How about you give us some examples of what you or people that are JWs have done to "expand and stop the child abuse world wide" because I can tell you right now, all I hear from active JWs is all the bad press they have gotten. Well guess what that is the same song that the Catholic Church sings and you know how Witnesses feel about them.

Remember there are ebbs and flow to all things. The oil crisis will pass and then the next crisis will appear.
I agree with the theory about news agencies. The best way to keep people glued to their t.v. is to report all the bad news. The masses want the negative so that is what they are fed.
The don't report on alternative fuel resources that are out there and are being discovered on a regular basis. I was in San Fran a couple of months ago and the car that was driving me around was fueled primarily by cooking oil.
As for the end of the world, well according to Chicken Little it is coming any day now. I also believe the WTBTS are also claiming this.
