It's funny, there was a thread here not too long ago asking people if they were upset about not getting a SC or if they were happy about not getting one. There were people who felt like they were being ignored and they did not like it, others were happy. As for me (and my household .... hee, hee just a little JW humor there) I felt hounded when I first started fading, all the "loving" calls from the elders, sisters in the hall, friends. I would intentionally work really late hours, it was easy enough to do, because there is always tons of work to be done. Then, I moved away, so they could not call on me. They asked for my number when I would run into them when I was visiting family. I gave it to them, but with caller ID, I just never answered and never returned their calls. Eventually it stopped. But let me tell you, for the period of time the pressure was on and I hated it. I would have loved to have been ignored.

Sarah McLachlan - Witness
Make me a witness
take me out
out of darkness
out of doubt
I won't weigh you down
with good intention
won't make fire out of clay
or other inventions
Will we burn in heaven
like we do down here
will the change come
while we're waiting
Everyone is waiting
And when we're done
soul searching
as we carried the weight
and died for a cause
is misery
made beautiful
right before our eyes
will mercy be revealed
or blind us where we stand
Will we burn in heaven
like we do down here
will the change come while we're waiting
everyone is waiting -

Granted, they say it is because they received the stocks and bonds based on a probate estate transfer. The fact remains that it is there and they have never sold nor sought to get ride of those stocks.
Yes, it was based on a transfer of stock held in trust and was probated thru to the WTBTS. As to whether they still hold the stock or not, I have not seen anything to show that it was transferred out, but that does not mean that to date they still hold shares in the company.
From what family members say, the WTBTS is "encouraging" people to leave funds to the WTBTS at the time of their death. There are several wealthier JWs who have trust (i.e., stock, bonds, diversified portfolios) that include things that would be a no-no for JWs such as financial interest in tobacco companies. In particular, there is a elderly relative who was married to a wealthy "worldly" guy. The guy has since died and she inherited his fortune thru his estate. They never had kids. That I know of, her will is set up for the WTBTS to receive the assets of her trust upon her death. There was a specific inquiry as to whether the WTBTS would have issues with receiving the interest of shares that related to tobacco companies and my great aunt was told, don't worry about it and go ahead an transfer the stocks over to the WTBTS. Now, I don't know if then they sell off of those shares, or they keep the trust the way it is upon inheritance.
But you see this is a huge issue for me, because when I worked at a grocery store in the deli, I was dragged in the back by the elders on a regular basis because the grocery store sold smokes and that could possible be a bad witness to people. HOW ... .I work in the frigg'n deli. But in the end, because they made my life miserable, I quit the job. So this is a sensitive subject w/ me. That is why I pressed the issue w/ my family member when I found out about it.

Do people think you're a hypochondriac........?
by Frannie Banannie indo people in your family or people you know think you're a hypochondriac?
do you think others who claim illnesses are hypochondriacs?.
i had one of those "state-of-the-art" or "in" health conditions beginning back in the '70's.

Fran, I know exactly what you are talking about. We always had a running joke in our family that if you started coughing because you swallowed down the wrong pipe, you would have to say to my mom, I'M NOT SICK, I JUST SWALLOWED DOWN THE WRONG PIPE because next thing you know she would say "oh, I have the cold you had, you know where you were coughing".
I also know for people who claim to be hypoglycemic, at least the ones I have come in contact with, those are the same people that eat crap all day long and then if they want to get out of something say, "oh, I can't, I don't feel well, I think my blood sugar is low because you know I am hypoglycemic".
Candida was the other disease that JWs claimed to have in the 80's. That seemed to die down. But there was a period of time when they all were on the candida diet. It just gives them an excuse to complain and act like victims.

I lost a very close friend over a month ago. He was one that "stuck closer than a brother" and he was my rock. I have yet to go thru a day without crying.
It is only normal to be without comfort initially. The idea that someone you knew and have memories of is gone, is one of the hardest concepts to accept. If, after sufficient time, you find that you still are dealing with deep grief, seek out a grief counselor as this is their speciality and they will be able to help you find the root of your sadness so as to address it.
I totally understand where you are coming from. Allow yourself to morn. I am sending you a very warm tight hug and wishing you peace.

Based on the guy's history, he has had his moments as an "active" JW.
However, I would like to point out that the WTBTS holds shares in Philip Morris and several other tobacco companies. Granted, they say it is because they received the stocks and bonds based on a probate estate transfer. The fact remains that it is there and they have never sold nor sought to get ride of those stocks. Considering they have in-house counsel, they could work on doing this at little cost to themselves. However, based on the profits, why would they do it? But heaven forbid a JW own stocks or bonds in a tobacco company.

A question for Jehovah's Witnesses. Please answer.
by rassillon ini am still in good standing so you must be truthful with me no spiritual warfare with me.. it is almost an automatic response that it is not fair to bring up old literature and old teachings when questioning the wt authority and stand.. i present that since the wt still uses references to early years and bases their authority and choseness on events that happend in those early years and the justification is the differences in what they taught and what nominal christianity taught.
based on these facts and the fact that if you disprove their claims to be chosen at that time they have no basis for authority or claiming a chosen status.. do you still agree that it is not fair to discuss this old literature?.
if you answer yes, when were they chosen by god and what proof do you have for that.

Jay - just to be on the safe side they need to just say ... I will not debate anything at all unless I am the only one allowed to (mis)use quotes. That would solve the whole debate.
As for the 1960 thing. What's the deal. According to JWs old law is good law. They clearly use old literature. They love to pull out Taze's crap or the Judge's famous words. Like as if they are quoting from Lincoln or Kennedy.
