DOES ANYONE STILL NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS???
by chuckyy injust wondering if anyone still does not celebrate xmas since leaving jws.....or like me do you think"to hell with it", and join in the festivities.
if you do celebrate it, do you still have pangs of guilt for celebrating this "pagan" festival???.

Most places are at will and can do what they want when they fire someone. Of course if a JW can hinge someone on religious persecution they will. Perfect example is this time of year. My secretary was asked to help stuff x-mas envelopes for the firm and said "no" and when another person asked why she did the usual "x-mas is a pagan holiday and it bothers my christian conscious" (like in another story where she used this line) people thought she was kidding and then realized she was not and then just ran away and made fun of her later. However, she is the first to say she is being persecuted because of her beliefs.

I'm w/ Was-a. Not my celebration, so there is no connection to me at all. As for presents, I love not having to worry about buying things for people and I tell people their present to me is them not buying for me, so they have one less stressor in their life. It is a win-win situation.

There are some who know my history w/ my "temp" JW secretary. People wondered why we as a law firm would put up w/ her issues. This is an excellent example of what JWs will use to sue an employer. Even though IL (as with most states) is an at will state, the laws often time side w/ the employee.
Although this "sister" is still my "temp" secretary, she has turned her attention to others because she has given up on me as a lost cause. But I do have a funny story about her. So, since she is a floater, she has to fill in for the main switchboard. We have several floors in our building and each floor has its own receptionist, but there is only one main switchboard. So the other day my "temp" JW secretary was filling in for the lunch break of the main receptionist. When the main receptionist returned she asked JW where she was going and JW says "oh I am going back to my desk on floor 30". So main receptionist says "can you please take this DVD over to secretary so-and-so because I told her I would get it back to her today and you sit right next to her". So JW looks at DVD and sees that not only is it a rated R movie but it is also a creepy movie. So JW says to receptionist "Oh NOOOOO, my Christian conscious (sp?) cannot allow me to have ANYTHING to do with this DVD. I CANNOT participate in any way with this DVD" Of course the receptionist thought it was a joke and kept trying to give the JW the DVD to take with her. Of course the JW was so offended by the content of the DVD (because it was Rated R, it had violence and nudity in it) that she went to HR and complained because she felt HARASSED by the receptionist over the tape. In the end the receptionist had to apologize to the JW. In the end the JW chick has become the butt of the office jokes.
See the problem with JWs as employees is that they cause their own problems but then blame them on religious persecution.

Oh yeah, I remember the osmonds singing holiday music, but I also remember Michael Jackson when he was suppose to be a JW doing things that the JWs frowned on (granted he would fit in more now as a JW, shame he DA'd himself, considering the odd ball stuff he does now and his fondness for young boys). Remember his grammy winning speech that they were all in uproar about. HYSTERICAL!

Yes, I think they do sing x-mas songs, but I still wonder about the whole celebration of x-mas. There was a secretary in my office that was a LDS and I am trying to remember what she did for the holidays and I don't recall. I would love to hear from a LDS what their beliefs are about x-mas and how they and/or their families handle the season.

Well they have managed to work them up into high fever because the ones who usually are indifferent are all in a frenzy over this crap as well. More of the same if you ask me.
I love the whole, its here, its here, oh no wait, you misunderstood what we were saying ... its here, its here, oh no wait, again you misunderstood what we were saying ... you see what we are saying at some point in time, something important will happen and it will be god's will. Its here, its here, blah, blah, blah

Here's a question, do Mormons celebrate x-mas. If they believe he is a lesser saint? If not, what do they do over the holiday season? Do we have any LDS in the crowd?

Junction Guy - it depends on what type of Jew they are. There is Reform, Conservative and Orth.... Depending on their strength in their belief, they may or MAY NOT celebrate x-mas. However, there were several kids (in particular I can think of one boy by the name of Neal) that would not even come close to a Christmas tree. The school had wanted us to all make something for the tree and decorate it. I remember "taking a stand" along w/ several of the other kids there were a total of 5 of us from our class, I was the only JW. Neal was a die hard Jew and would never participate in any christian activities as he found them offensive to his heritage and beliefs.
I cannot testify as to all Jews or Muslims, but I can tell you as to the ones that I associated with and am still in contact with today. There are some that do participate in x-mas, but for the vast majority of the people that I know and socialize with that are Jewish, they do not participate in Christmas because it is not their holiday and yes they have their own observation of the Hanukkah. But if you were to say to a Jewish person that it is like Christmas, be prepared to get your head chewed off because they find it offensive.
I don't know enough about the Muslim faith to know what they celebrate around December.

I never had a problem w/ it. It was always explained to me why I did not participate and I had a ton of kids who where not "Christians" who celebrated their own days and did not participate w/ x-mas. I loved the holiday season because that meant that I got out of school a lot. I would have my own special days with my mom and friends. My mother was raised a JW, so she knew what it was like and she made sure that if I was "missing out" on something special at school that she made the day I was out special for me. We would go to plays, the movies, out to a fancy lunch, etc. To me asking people if they miss Christmas is like asking a Jew or Muslim if they miss Christmas. But that is the upside to being raised in a community that butts up against Chicago, it was filled w/ non-Christians who were just as dogmatic about their beliefs as JWs were about theirs, so I never stood out as strange, because it was a common issue that the school had to deal with.
