I hope a case like this (or this one) does go before the Supreme Court because lower court rulings have little value outside of their own county. If the Supreme Court rules on something like this, well that is it (unless it is later reversed).

Judge rules JW elders must testify in molestation case
by pseattle2 inthis just went up on freeminds regarding the jw elders in southern california, who have so far been stonewalling about their private conversations with accused jw child molester gilbert simental... the judge in the case has issued an order for them to testify:.
(the judge) said... "it was more like a third-party investigation into immoral conduct."...
the judge said, the elders' duty was to determine guilt and to protect the congregation, not to keep the communications under wraps.

Well I have even better list for you. Up in Lake County, IL, the courthouse clearly thinks it is ripe for a terrorist attack because the list of items not allowed is a full page long. However, the rent-a-deputy who stands next to the metal detector also has "discretion" to determine whether to make you remove (and thus he/she gets to keep what you have to turn over) something from your bag or not.
I take the train up to Lake County to the court house. I have a little over night bag because I plan on staying up there w/ a friend who will be picking me up at the end of the day because I was going to be in the courtroom all day. I figure I will shove the bag in the conference room right off the court room, it will be fine. No, as I am going thru the metal detector, the rent-a-deputy (a dude) makes me turn over all my make-up ... I guess it can be used to make a bomb. A small suitcase lock that I use for going to the gym, cause I had plans to do that while I was there ... cause it can be used as a weapon. 2 safety pins that I had in the hem of my pants because I managed to get my heel caught in the hem and torn the hem out. ... because they can be used as a weapon. Guess what, none of these items were on the list of "prohibited" items list.
Unfortunately, I was stuck because I did not have a car to keep my stuff in and they don't have lockers for you to put stuff in and once you "turn it over" to them, it is no longer considered yours. Total BS!
Who the hell is going to try and take out the Waukegan Courthouse. Really, no one can be bothered to live there so I doubt any militant groups are going to storm the place and destroy it. Clearly they would be doing the world a favor if they did.
P.S. Can you tell that I am still pissed over this. It cost me a fortune to have to go out and buy all new makeup. And needless to say the dude I was with was none to pleased that we had to go to the mall to replace my "girly stuff".

I know a ton of friends who have little contact w/ their crazy families and they are not JWs. I think screwed up families exist all over. I agree w/ the ... you can't pick your family but your can pick your friends, so your friends can become your family. That is what I have. My friends are family to me and they drive me crazy at times (just like family) but I love them totally just like family.

is a homosexual as bad as a paodophile to a jw ?
by looloo inthe same guy that spoke to my mum on the doors yesterday was talking about them in the same catergory , aswell as saying that there are alot of 13 to 15 year old girls hanging around the local night club looking for a one night stands (she should of asked him how he knew about this , is that because he is there ?
) his point was is a man of 25 that picks up a 15 year old plastered in makeup at a nightclub a paedophile ?
which was totally irrelevant to the point she was making about the local ex min servant that had abused his daughters friends in the cong even though he was good friends with thier parents and had known the girls since birth , so did know they were underage .

Though, in my experience as being raised a jw ... the elders are more apt to jump on someone being accused of being a homosexual than they are of someone molesting a child in the hall. I grew up w/ a kid who was very effeminate and they were constantly "counseling" him about his conduct. However, there was a MS who was later moved from one hall to another (we never knew why til later when he as charged w/ sexual crimes against a minor in his neighborhood) and he left the one hall as a MS and was quickly appointed a MS at his new hall (which we found out that there were rumors of him being inappropriate w/ some girls at a pool party). The poor kid I knew that they suspected of being a homosexual, was kicked out of his parents house and ultimately df'd. And yes, he was in fact gay, but he did not have any type of relationship with another guy til after he left the religion and finally accepted who he was.
So, based on what I have seen ... they will do a witch hunt on someone the suspect is gay, but they will turn a blind eye to a pedophile. So I think to them, it is worse to be gay then to abuse minors.

What smart people do when they win a large lotto, they hire an atty, set up a trust and then have the atty file all the paper work and the money goes into the trust. This way their information does not become public knowledge. It is possible to stay hidden.

Sherry, The View
by 4mylove inanyone catch the view this morning?

Wikipedia has her name as Sherri Shepherd. I suppose you could go to youtube and do a search under her name, but I would not be surprised if it was not there. They do have her other over the top convos about her over the top christian views. She still reminds me of jws because of her total belief in something but her lack of knowledge about the subject.
I am always amazed when ex-jws go into other religions that are of the same black and white mentality. To me it is more of the same, just with a different caption.

WTBTS fastest growing religion in North America
by XJwFree2BMeWJC inis it true?

has this already been posted?

Something does not seem to add up. Considering the number of people getting DF'd and DA'd, the low (and I MEAN low) number of new bpt'z at the assemblies. How can this be true for North America. Also, wasn't there a JW theory that the "truth" had been preached in North America and that is why the numbers were so small, but they then turned to S. America and said that is where the preaching was really taking off.

Ex-JW Joy Castro writes her own "Truth Book" to cope, share, help
by Gopher ini thought this was a compelling and honest account about overcoming a particularly traumatic childhood.
it was written about an associate professor of english studies.
the article was published in the daily nebraskan, the independent student newspaper of the university of nebraska in lincoln.. beneath the article is a section where you can add your comments for joy or for the student journalist who wrote the story.. http://www.dailynebraskan.com/media/storage/paper857/news/2008/02/19/news/unl-professor.writes.memoir.to.cope.share.help-3217944.shtml.

I grew up knowing Joy's mom. I had always heard rumors about what her mother's 2nd husband had done to the kids, but of course the JWs whitewashed it in their own way. Joy must be a very strong woman to have gone thru what she did and still have the metal ability to carry on. I say good for her. I hope she continues to write and share her thoughts and experiences.

For my own personal experience, I have found that those with mental illnesses are all different so you cannot say a person who is mentally ill would never harm someone else. That is a misnomer. My grandmother was diagnosed with schizophrenia (primary disease) and depression (secondary disease) which later became bi-polar disorder. When she heard voices she really believe them. Her meds needed to be changed from time to time and when those times happened, hell swallowed all of us. She was later institutionalized and I would visit her once a week until her death. There were people on her ward that on a normal day were fine. But twice I had very frightening experiences with people who clearly had gone off their meds or needed to be readjusted.
A couple of years ago a gun man went into a Chicago law firm and killed several people. I work at a law firm, after that incident they instituted further security measures. But the other day, we were dealing with some union matters and a couple of the union guys got into a fist fight. One guy ended up in the hospital w/ several broken bone and a concussion. At the end of the day, we cannot prevent someone who is bound and determined to do harm to do just that. Whether the act of harm is done with a gun, a knife or bare hands.
I am certainly not trying to minimize what happened. What I am trying to say, is that human nature is what it is. If people allow their demons (whether in their head or otherwise) to get the better of them, they will find a way to bring it down upon those around them.
