My mother is handicapped. She had polio as a kid and has post-polio now. She wears braces on both her legs. But because the braces are so good now a days you cannot tell she is handicapped. Well one day she parked in the handicapped spot (her license plates are handicapped plates) and as she is getting out the car, this loud mouth guy yells, "HEY THAT IS FOR HANDICAPPED PEOPLE DUMB@ss" Well My mom being the little fiesty Irish woman she is, marches over to his car, lifts up her skirt so you can see her two braces and screams back at him "IS THIS HANDICAPPED ENOUGH FOR YOU - YOU DUMB SH*T" It as hysterical in so many ways, because it had been after a meeting and there were JWs in the parking lot and they just looked at her like she spit the CO face (you know for swearing and right after being spiritually feed and all), but no one ever said anything. I think they were too frightened of her. OH HOW I LOVE THOSE FIESTY IRISH WOMEN.

The rudeness of people
by greendawn inwhat were some rude things people said or did to you?
i remember once this guy who farted loudly several times in quick succession and then apologised to those present in the room by saying: oh had some coke that's where the gases came from, don't worry they are not the smelly meaty ones.

So what do you think ..now youve left?
by vitty in.
first this is a question for ppl who converted to jws as an adult.
since yourve left the "truth" have you gone back to your old beliefs considering what happens to you after you die, do you thing you will go to heaven or hell when you die.. next , if you were brought up in the "truth" what do you believe now?

Well I have a full blown history 3rd gen JW. So the thinking is in deep. I don't celebrate holidays because they are not my tradition. However, if I am invited by a friend over to for a x-mas dinner or a thanksgiving dinner I will go. My friends (who were never JWs) don't give me presents because I have told them not to waste their money on me - I hear too often from people celebrating x-mas what a pain it is and how expensive it is, so I just want to avoide being part of their irritation. I will celebrate my birthday with my close friends, but come on, I don't like being the center of attention (a little too shy for that). I do celebrate other people's birthdays. I don't believe any man has the right to dictate to me what my beliefs should be. Why should they have more insight then I do to look things up and come to my own conclusions. As for organized religion, I feel it is only as good as the people in the church, temple, hall, etc., make it. Belief is a state of mind, so I don't need a building to solidify my beliefs. Because of my own independent research - I don't believe in the trinity or hell. I do believe in heaven. I believe when we die, we are gone and that our energy does return to the earth. What happens to our spirit, I have yet to figure out. But maybe one day it will hit me. But mostly I believe in love and peace. I refuse to argue religion with anyone because I believe to each their own. Why should I be so self-righteous to believe my beliefs are right and you are wrong. I always hope the best for people and am sad when I hear things are going badly. I do believe in right and wrong but those are rights and wrongs that the world recognizes, don't murder, don't sexual molest anyone, be nice, etc., I try to do what is right in my book and as for the rest of the world .... good luck to them.

Well they FINALLY CALLED!!!!
by Lady Liberty inyou have asked me to keep you posted as to what happens here regarding the elders return.
as many of you know, we have been waiting for over 2 months for any kind of word back from them.
i kept telling my husband, " you would think that they would at least call, and say they haven't forgotten about us, that they are doing the research they promised to do.

Hey Noni -
Welcome. My family does not shun me either. I know how bad some people have it with that, but fortunately I have not experienced it.

There's a woman at my job who is a poser. Example - she claims she has a disability (ADA), but is seems to wax and wan depending on what is happening. She limps about the office but when an e-mail comes out that there is cake in the big kitchen (all the way on the other side of the office from her office) me along with other people people have actually seen her RUN (and I mean full out run) all the while saying "if I don't get there early it will be gone". So one day I see this chick walking to the bus which will take her to the train to take her home. She walks up to the front of the line and holds her cane up to hold the first person in line back and says to them "I am handicapped and under ADA you have to let me go first" then she walks over to whomever is sitting in the first seat and says "you have to move because I have a handicap". I think most people are just too shocked to say anything. This woman was also known to make her secretary who was 9 months preggers to haul around heavy boxes for her because the poser could not lift things because she had a bum leg. The women in our office found out about it raised holy hell and that stopped and quick.

That is wonderful. I have close friends who foster doggies. When they go out of town, I dog sit for them. I love it. My cat does not!

I think there is a site called watchdog.org. Oprah had it on her show one day. I should give you map along with a name and address.
