I am polite and say no thank as I keep walking (they do street witnessing here). But I have found that since being here 10 years, that I can count on one hand how many JWs that are doing street work that have tried to stop and have a conversation with. AAAHHH you got ta love the Big City.

My feeling is that I am only objectified if I allow someone to objectify me. I have no problem with strippers or hooters or anyone woman or man who puts themselves in that position. To each their own.

What age group has to sacrifice the most to be a JW?

what age group has it easier or harder to be a jw?

I agree it is the young people. They give up their lives in order to please either their parents or the elders in the hall.

Ballistic it is not a strip club. It is filled with women who have big tits and/or big butts. They are cute and some chick here feel threatened by them. JWs fell that the women are dressed inappropriately so they make a stink about it. But really they do have the BEST chicken wings. And it is a great place to go and watch sports at. So again, it depends on how secure your girl feels about herself, if you take her there.

Lets say you went to a meeting, list what would irritiate you...
by JH in.
in my case, it was always the length of the meetings that bothered me.. no matter what meeting it is, you have to get there prepared, and that means lots of time reading the darn literature.. another thing that would irritate me, is all the magazines that come in faster than i can read.. i'll let you guys add to this list.. .

Yeah, the judgmental thing drives me insane. But my biggest problem ... MEN you have a penis and you rule the world. Women you don't so sit down and service your husbands because you need to be in submission. Sorry boys, but I have a brain and I am going to use it and you JW men that are threatened by a women who can think for herself, you need to keep walking cause I ain't gonna put up with your BS.
The best thing about being out ... I am woman hear me roar. Thank you Helen Reddie! I work in an industry that is 1950's mentality, but we are slowly working our way up and there are guys that I can go up to and say .. "you are a dick, knock it off" and they just laugh and respect me that much more.

I am a chick and I have been there a number of times. It is not that big of a deal. I think it depends on how secure your date feels in herself. If she got an @$$ or tits she is not going to care. If she is insecure, then she will care. I for one say if you got it flaunt it! And for people who say that it is insulting to women, I don't agree. But again, to each their own. You need to consider your date, not what everyone else. If it were me, I would say go for it. If it is a guy, he will love you more for it, if it is a chick, depending on how she feels about her body, she may be fine with it or she may feel insecure.

tired of not existing
by BlackSwan of Memphis inok, sorry about this but i'm in tears and just need to absolutely vent..... i am so tired of being invisible, of not existing to people that have said they love me, to people who i've known for years.. i had to find out from the stupid newspaper that a family friend died from her battle w/ breast cancer.. just this week i finally get in contact with someone who had stopped going to the meetings 10 years ago and now that she's back... guess what ... that's right ... i hate this religion.
yes i am depressed today.
everything a person has built in a life time is just ripped away.

Megan, my heart goes out to you. If you feel like reading something, when I finally made the decision to stop being a JW, I bought a book that helped me out a lot in so many ways. It is called Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. It is an interesting look at when people do not get their emotional needs met and what they can do to heal.
One of the things that stood out to me the most and that I try to put in place when dealing with people who are very harsh (like JWs). Hostility puts people at risk. If negative thoughts persist, try to short circuit them by saying encouraging words in order to substitute cynical mistrustful ones. For frustrating encournters, try to learn the ability to see things from the other person's perspective - empathy is a balm for anger.
It is much easier said then done. But if you have the ability to feel sorry for JWs and the fact that they live half a life, then you may be able to deal with the harshness that is dealt out by JWs.
I hope that your worries with respect to people and how they may or may not let you know about a loved one's death, does not come true. I hope for everyone's sake it does not come true.
I wish you much happiness in your journey to come.

How about your emotional intelligence? It is with the heart that one sees rightly; what is essentialis invisible to the eye. "The Little Prince" Does anyone feel that they might not be the brightest bulb in the bunch but they have more common sense and emotional intelligence then most people they deal with?

DO SOMETHING
by ArtfulDodger ini see this site gets thousands of postings every day .. from literally thousands of members, mostly ex-dubs, from all over the world.. rather than simply go on moaning and whinging about the big nasty org why don't you all put your efforts into something positive ... do something.. ok - the org is evil .. but it exists ... and simply whining on about it doesn't change that.
with your efforts directed at something positive, you could do wonders for .
.for anything you choose.. hundreds of real charities could do with your support - to help the really needy .

AD - Just because people are sitting around taking a poke at the WTBTS does not mean that they are sitting in a dark, smoke filled room, dark circles under their eyes, dirt between their names (what nails they do have, for most of them have been bitten to the quick), with week old pizza and three day old coffee, typing away, all the while whimpering and rocking back and forth.
If you look thru past threads you would see that many people here do volunteer and DO SOMETHING. You should give the peeps here a little more credit than that. There are a number of people who never volunteered outside of the JW thing until they left. Now they help on a regular basis with soup kitchens, abuse centers, learning centers, mentoring.
Feel free to lead as an example and set the way for the rest of the "whingers" you obviously feel that you encounter here.

shunning & human rights violations
by rebel8 inhere is an interesting site i came across accidentally (http://www.peacefulsocieties.org/nar/051110amis.html).
i have always wondered if any dfd ex-jws have ever pursued the human rights angle.
the un human rights commission also has rules against anything that causes loss of reputation..

The issue here is a violation of CR because the woman (Troyer) refused to service the other woman (Garrett). The issues at hand would be similar to JWs if JWs refused to render service to others ex-JWs. I have never heard of a JW refusing to take $$$$ from an ex-JW. JWs are all about the money regardless of whose money it is. As for JW family members refusing to speak and deal with ex-JW family members, those rights do not fall under Civil Rights.
You would have to be able to get access to the pleadings filed with the HRC in order to determine what causes of action were claimed and what the defense was. Ultimately the decision rendered by the HRC would tell you their position and what either case law or state statutes they based their decision on.
The one thing I did find interesting was that Troyer was willing to let Garrett take whatever she wanted and not pay because of the shunning order. So there was a loop hole for Troyer to get thru in order to avoid any action by her community. However, the consequences of Troyer's actions should she have done business and taken money from Garrett were pretty serious and I would liken it to the same as the consequences of some JWs who had talked to ex-JWs and have been counseled for not following orders with the very real threat of being Df'd themselves. That is the part that was the most interesting.
"Troyer used a religious freedom defense, claiming that her church doctrine prevented her from taking money from those shunned by the Amish.
Garrett, an author who has written about Amish life, contended that the refusal to serve her was a violation of Kentucky's Civil Rights Act for denial of service in a public place for religious reasons"
