Seems that an "eye for an eye" is not an option on the table. Too bad the relative of the little girl is not allowed to take the father's life, unless he can flee to the City of Refuge (I think that was what it was called) and wait until the high priest dies and then return to his former life. I wonder what the JWs think about this verdict and the deal that the mom got to testify against her husband.

Geevee, I hope your friend really wants what is best for you. Because if they do, then they will be open minded as to what you wrote because it was very non-confrontational. I wish the best for you and what the future holds.

I feel sorry for them. Imagine how frustrating their lives must be that they cannot turn everyone to the "truth" and get those who have "left" to turn back to god. That is why they have to be self-righteous, otherwise they would go insane with all the frustration.

Punishing GB members, COs and elders
by greendawn inhow do you think the gb members along with the cos and elders should be punished for the way they emotionally and spiritually abuse and hurt the flocks of the naive r&f?

I am of the Karma belief. So what they have done or the evilness that they have let loose in the world, is what will visit them. Maybe not right away, but eventually it will return. That being said, because of my belief of Karma, I never want to wish punishment upon another person, because I am afraid it will rain down upon me in spades.

Would you fight and possibly die for your country?
by free2beme ini want to put this in the right frame, as what is happening in iraq is not about dying for our countries.
so this is what i mean by this question.. if a foreign government were to suddenly invade your country.
would you be willing to join the arm forces to fight for your country, knowing full well that you may die having never been able to reap the benefits of any possible victory?

Yeah, B-man they would have rejected a lot of us. I am not color blind, but I am flat footed and dyslexic. I am a compensated dyslexic. So maybe you are a compensated (color) blind man. You have to do everything by touch. A friend of ours learned how to drive in her 50's and she is a horrible driver. We say that she drives by touch. As you can guess, no one takes her up on her offer to drive somewhere. So I guess that means that you will never be called in to be a fashion designer, but my guess is that you are ok with that.

As a kid - My friends and I played that "cut off the air and pass out game" when I was little. Everyone now a days acts all shocked about it, but it has been around for YEARS. I use to ride in the dryer when I was a kid. We would put it on "fluff" because it would not be hot air blowing it in. I really liked it. We use to play chicken with trains. ... We were a smart bunch weren't we. You may wonder where our parents were, all hanging out together not paying any mind to us.
As an adult - black water rafting; white water rafting; hang-gliding; sky diving; wreck scuba diving; not realizing that I was standing and swimming around in crock infested waters while in the Cape Tribulation until my GF flipped out when she saw the HUGE sign behind me saying DON'T SWIM HERE YOU DUMB @$$; breaking my arm playing co-ed touch football (those insane soccer chicks were horrible to play against), in its own way it Ultimate Death Match, just on an open field instead of a cage.

are we free?
by nomoreTRUTHplz ini don't mean this is as a debate, but merely an observation.
i have noticed that a lot (not all) of us post and participate in topics that are nothing but arguements and debates over what should be believed.
i have also been guilty of this, but just began to wonder, are we really free?.

I think JWD is great for a number of reasons. It allows people to linger and read. People never have to post or state their purpose. However, for those who do, it is their call. I have only visited a couple of other on-line places where to me it was a mud slinging fest. I am not into that and that is why I hang out here.
Gregor - it is understandable that many people still experience pain and anger associated with their past life in the org. I, for one, do not begrudge anyone their experience or their current feelings (or lack thereof) about the religion.
But again that is where this site is nice. If someone wants to participate in a thread that addresses the "put up or shut up" idea, they can. Or alternatively, they can chose to participate in other threads. It is like the thread that questioned what people's positions were, whether it was just fluff or if they really wanted to debate religion. That thread showed that there are all types that visit here.
But again, everyone's experience and history is different. It is unfair to cry foul if someone does not see things exactly the way another human sees it. That is what makes the earth the place it is. Yes, from time to time, I stand upon my soap box and sing to the masses should they chose to listen. But then I step down and live amongst the average joe and join the mainstream.
As for being free. I wish I could say I am "free". But in so many ways I am not. I am not free to pay what I think is fair in taxes. I am not free to do what I want at work. I am not free to say to a client or boss "you are an @$$ and you should be ashamed of yourself". Do I feel that I am put upon because of this. No. I suppose if I really wanted to I could do all those things. But there are consequences to my actions, so in my own way I am not free but I have come to realize that life is a compromise. That being said, am I free to say to my family this is a crock of BS and I will not listen to it. Yes. But do I want to. No. I am willing to let them live their life the way they want and I only ask for the same in return. Though I understand a number of people here do not have that available to them.
So I am free to move within certain boundaries and I am fine with that.

Why are JW's always together no matter what they do?
by JH inour congregation has the meetings on sunday mornings.
and i noticed that many sunday afternoons, many young and not so young jw's play socker at a park nearby.. now, i'm sure a few of them will be invited for dinner right after that.. i was totally different from them.
once the meeting finished, i didn't want to see a witness until the next meeting.

Cyd - I know it is amazing isn't that "worldly" people are not all programed to try and turn JWs away from their beliefs. That is what is so funny. If only JWs understood that most people don't care what others think. It is the fundamentalist (mental being the key part of that word) religions that have no shades of gray but all black and white beliefs. Otherwise, the vast majority of people live by the "live and let live" mentality. But again, it might have something to do with the fact that when someone is a JW they are expected to be a JW 100% of the time, which includes your down time, when you are sleeping, when you are using the toliet, etc.

Ahh, but JH, you are not thinking with the "christian" mind. Why would you want to socialize with anyone other then you brother or sister. Should you socialize with a "worldly" person they may try to sway your thinking, try to get you to do drugs, try to get you into witchcraft, or have sex with them.
