(Waiting for the Hurricanes this year!)
I'm waiting for the Big-A this year! I can't wait!

another international slate of scientists have released their findings regarding global climate change and human's effect on that (see the above link).. after the last major study released by several hundred scientists a few months ago, it does seem there is a serious concensus here among the leading thinkers and scientists on this issue.
i know i've banged heads with a few who disagree with this, but it does seem as though that handful of folks who disagree with the science are looking more and more like deniers, as in holocaust deniers, moon landing deniers, etc.. in other words, out there on the lunatic fringe.. so, do you folks think it might be time to reconsider?.

I like cheese.
please indulge a little whining.
i don't go out in service--i don't comment.
they assign talks (once, one of the highlights of my existence) to me every couple of months.
I can't lose my parents. I can't lose my wife. I can't lose my kids. This means I can't speak up. I can't say what I know to be true. I have to bite my tongue and listen to the ridiculous statements, the self-aggrandizing lack of humility, the propaganda. I have to shut my mouth and watch the refuse drain into my kids' heads, with my only mitigation the occasional dose of reason I feed to them under the table when my wife isn't watching.
I lost all this last year. I'm a better man for it and happy.
I understand the fear. You might try to ask seemingly innoculous questions that get your family thinking.
rather than hijack another thread and inspired by fullofdoubtnow and dedpoets music for the wedding thread i thought i would start a little "dedications" thread - this isn't the sort of dedication symbolised by dunking though!.
(i expect to see ggbg and ofg here forthwith for some romantic dedications).. i'd like to dedicate the following to someone special - "bodies - by drowning pool" .
they probably wont see this, but the thought that counts!.
Not really dedicated to anyone...I just like the music.

"Subterranean Homesick Alien"The breath of the morning
I keep forgetting
The smell of the warm summer air
I live in a town
Where you can't smell a thing
You watch your feet
For cracks in the pavement
Up above
Aliens hover
Making home movies
For the folks back home
Of all these weird creatures
Who lock up their spirits
Drill holes in themselves
And live for their secrets
They're all uptight
Uptight.. [x7]
I wish that they'd swoop down in a country lane
Late at night when I'm driving
Take me on board their beautiful ship
Show me the world as I'd love to see it
I'd tell all my friends
But they'd never believe
They'd think that I'd finally lost it completely
I'd show them the stars
And the meaning of life
They'd shut me away
But I'd be all right
All right..
I'm just uptight
Uptight.. [x7]

rather enjoyable, especially the picture of dawkins in the "atheists for jesus" t-shirt..
I agree with you that in this day and age, there is no need for morality to wrap itself in the cloak of religion. That is precisely my--and I believe, Dawkins'--point: contrary to some people's misconception of atheism, there is no conflict between being an atheist and promoting genuine (i.e. rational and compassionate, rather than arbitrary and divisive) morality.
I agree Euphemism. Yet many can wonder, how can atheists have morals? Doesn't one need to believe in a God to live a moral life?
I heard this question answered one time in a way that has stuck with me. Take for example, stealing. Why should an atheist not steal? If God isn't watching and won't punish him for it later on, why shouldn't the atheist try to steal? Well, the reason has to do with the society a group of stealers would create. The atheist would not want to live in that type of society, so he acts in such a way as to avoid stealing himself.
Morals can exist independant of religion.

so, you are starting to leave the cult.
you begin to meet new people and instead of viewing them all as 'bad association', you begin to view them as fellow humans.
what was your first impression of 'worldly people'?.
I realized these people were just like me, searching.
I felt connected to all of humanity.
I wanted to be a part of the world.

Hi Mom and Dad
i don't get to watch this series on it's scheduled night, but i do keep up by watching it on the internet.
this year a lot has been revealed, but like always, a lot has not.
basically it seems the island has some special powers, a box that gives you what ever you want, and people see this ben guy as a leader.
Last night's episode could have been dropped. It did not really advance the storyline. I hope they don't have more of this.
I thought this as well Blondie, until I realized the writers may be trying to show us they are not making this up as they go. It seems that the behavior of Nikki and Paulo on the island has been carefully scripted to lead us to this episode.
