Elders are just as misguided as everyone else, remember a time when you truly believed al the BS? Well elders do as well. I used to know a few genuine elders, what i have a real issue with is the fact that these (sometimes) well intentioned men have NO education or qualifications to act as counsellers to often disturbed and depressed individuals, people who need professional help are referred to a window cleaner....it is wrong

Are elders more "pure" than the other JW's ?
by JH ini always considered elders like "cops" in the congregation, looking into other people's business and looking for faults.
they give the impression that they are pure and do no wrong and by the fact, they can judge others and counsel them.. i'd love to turn the tide around and find out about their faults and sins.. .

Who here believes in Creation, yet believes in the Fossil records??
by Lady Liberty ingood morning and "happy sunday everyone!!.
yesterday our family (grandparents, grandkids, aunts, uncles) all went for a two hour drive for a picnic and all day fossil dig.

agreed!
However when you have a comment stating that "maybe supernatural beings were trying to out do each other with T rex's and Brontosaurus's" you realise that a scientific discussion is probably out of the question

Removing Apostate Lies from the Internet with Legal Action...why not?
by Gill inif a lot of the negative experiences and comments about the watchtower bible and tract society and jehovah's witnesses on the internet really was all apostate lies, surely the wt society would have a legal right to take such supposed slanderers to court and sue to have the information removed.. they were able to remove quotes site just for repeating what they themselves had said.
why do they not take the same action with regard to information they insist is just apostate lies?.

They do whatever suits their purpose
Quotes was particularly damaging due to the fact that it quoted what they had themselves printed. However any "apostates" comments can be used by them as fuel to prove the persecution they receive. It seriously would not surprise me if they actually supplied some of the disinformation themselves

Killing time during meeting...
by brunnhilde ini used to balance my checkbook sometimes.

What if she hadn't eaten the fruit?
by michael downing inbased solely on whats available in the genesis account, what would happen if eve had not eaten the fruit but had continued a relationship with the "serpent" in perpetuity questioning god's motives?
would she be punished for this exercise of free will?.
i ask the question because my personal belief is that if the genesis account is in fact allegory, then what comes after it should be awarded no more acknowledged efficacy that what we prescribe to aesop, confucius or any other pragmatic, non-theistic value-set that has survived history .

I find it amazing that some people genuinely believe that all the bad in the world is due to the interactions of a woman, talking snake and a dodgy piece of fruit!
Some issues I have with this account
a) God deliberately puts a temptation there, that was just asking for trouble
b) God must have known Eve was having a tete a tete with a linguistic, sneaky snake
c) At no point does God intervene and stop the whole incident
d) God's complete overreaction to the whole thing
e) The snakes punishment which to me does not seem like much of a punishment given its role in the whole thing
Does Genesis at any point actually say that the snake was possessed by Satan? Or does this explanation only come into effect in further books in the bible?

The fossil record along with the evidence for evolution does make the concept of a creator rather redundant, this deity has gone from being an almighty, all creating super being to a creature which "lit the blue touchpaper". New discoveries strip yet more and more of the mysteries away and without the mystery the need for a supernatural explanation disappears

Why label it a cult?
by rebel8 inwhat purpose does it serve?
it just seems to polarize people and ostracize those who aren't ready or willing to label it a cult.
anyone can look up the dictionary definition of a cult (or experts' definitions).
-
Mariusuk.
I disagree
That is like normalising a despot and calling his government a "new age government". Cults should be exposed for the destructive entities that they are.
A religious cult is a group of people practicing a belief system that is considered to outside of the common mainstream with a high level of control over its adherents utilising various methods to this end

Wing Commander
I am rather new to this board and as such do not really know you or your history. At the end of day you have to choose your own path in life to get to where you want or need to be.
I would say though as others had to approach this with a very open mind, remember this organisation is not set up to frazzle your mind in short bursts, it is a protracted process which over a long time numbs your ability to think logically and question
Personally I would advise maybe seeking counselling with a professional and joining some therapy groups where at least the people offering the support are doing it genuinely with absolutely no ulterior motives
Good luck
