I do believe in God.
I do will not ever belong to another organized religion though.
if you've been associated with the witnesses, believing in god was a necessity.
do you still feel that god exists?
if you believe in god, do you feel that he cares about you?
I do believe in God.
I do will not ever belong to another organized religion though.
for those who have been out of touch for more than a few years, a s.a.d.
is the special assembly day.
i attended the sad in brooklyn this weekend and thought you might enjoy some of the highlights.. the morning began with two "telling" illustrations.
I also agree that this "brother" who was stuck at McDonalds is full of it. Francios made a great comment about how he would have learned to market himself with all that schooling.
I firmly believe that even those without degrees can make something of themselves, and create a good income.
If this were true, then the "brother" is a complete nimrod, and that is the only job he could land, regardless of his education. He would obviously be somewhat intelligent, but his social skills must lack something silly if he couldn't land a job.
Sad thing is, there were probably many people nodding their heads in agreement. Same people who are quick to make stupid statements about things they just don't have a clue about.
my wife, liza, came home from work this morning (she was doing the 3rd shift thing) and said she was leaving me.
this afternoon at 1 pm i took her to the bus station.
at 4:20 pm she was off to nyc.
Yerusalyim,
Prayers already going your way from me to you. Not much I can say, but to hang in there for your childrens sake, and your stepson too. From what I have read from your posts, you seem to be a standup guy.
Best wishes.
when talking to someone who never was a jw, and they say to you how could you ever fall for all that?
it does bother me, cause i think it is some what condescending?
how do you feel about these questions?
People making those comments, even if they are sincere, are speaking out of ignorance. There is no way for anyone to truly understand unless they were in our shoes.
while sitting on a mountain lake in the summer in the oregon mountains, i took the moment to see what a beautiful place it was.
it had pine trees growing right to the shore, and sat at the base of mount pitt, which is a striking mountain on it's own with a majestic peak and steep angled descent on both sides.
the mountain wind blew by and set this peaceful lake into a rippled affect that looked like a natural show of energy moving from one side of the lake to the other.
I agree that we must live in the now, and apreciate what is around us. At the same time, looking forward to the future with excitment and anticipation.
Life is truly awesome! There really is so much to experience, so much to enjoy, so much to see and do.
In my opinion, now that we don't have to go to the meetings, and all that is required of a JW, we have gained a complete new life, and time to go with it to enjoy the many things that sadly, most witnesses will never be able to. Lets not let the time escape us.
i have been up watching saturday night fever, made in the year 1977. funny thing i noticed , the club that the tony(john travolta) dances at is called 2001 odessey.
i thought god , i was 10 or 11 when that movie came out.
i wanted to see it so bad, but good jw's would never see such a movie, the disco era right.
The WTS really didn't encourage us to dream, for that was being greedy and self centered, and the end was going to come at any moment. Now I know that I have the time to cultivate my dreams, for myself, my family, and my financial goals. I also believe that God will not give you a dream that you cannot abtain. Whatever goals or dreams that you might have, go for it!
was going thru some old files on my computer and stumbled across an old talk i helped my sister with for the school....talk about bringing back bad memories.....but you gotta admit...i was pretty good.... lindsey: thanks for the ride cindy.. .
cindy: your welcome lindsey.. .
lindsey: oh by the way a group of us are going ice skating tomorrow morning and i was wondering if monica and joseph could go with us.. .
That is the closest to being at a meeting in years! Oh, bad flashbacks.
And of course those in the audience nodding and agreeing.
when i was growing up, there was a "school" in the area, that catered only to witness children.
there was probably about 60 students, mostly elementary school, but there were a few that were from high school.
i had a friend that went for a while, and i got to visit a few times.. the teaching was barely enough, and consisted of two or three classrooms.

The teaching was barely enough, and consisted of two or three classrooms. My friend went there for a couple of years. He went for a year of middle school, and over a year of high school.
What sucked though, was that you could absolutely graduate from there, but what you were given was a GED, not a diploma. So, though you went to school, you never had the credit of a "real " school, with an actual diploma.
My friend ended up going to a public school, after he had already spent over a year in the high school program they had. When he went to transfer, the public school did not accept ANY of the credits he had achieved at the witness school. He had to take a year of classes over, so he could get the required credits so he could graduate.
And no, the private witness school, did NOT tell the students, nor the parents about this. Many people ended up getting screwed by having to redo so many courses.
Was this just a one of a kind school? Anyone else experience one of these, or heard of them? This certainly was not a WTS sponsered program, but some gung ho witnesses that had some sort of teaching credentials that thought this would be a good idea. I think it hurt more than it helped, for sure.
vernon jordan is a very close friend of william jefferson clinton, former president of the united states.
in america, mostly due to media interest in president clinton's personal life during his administration, the average american knows what jordan looks like but little else.
vernon jordan -- until the publication of this book, anyway -- is not well known.
I think every one of us can take something that happened to us, and us it to our advantage. True, we may have missed out on some things, but like posted above, we can all start over, but I would add: with experience.
We can take our experiences, and pay close attention to those in our sphere of influence now, and become the best we can be, learn the most we can, and take that and remain positive, and continue to grow in our lives.
when in the wt we seldom heard of anyone becoming "apostate", sure there was 1 or 2 in the usa somewhere (durrr) but very seldom would we call anyone who left "apostates", so why does it appear that everyone calls themselves apostate if they left for other reasons?
the mindset of most jws was that an "apostate" was someone who left the wts to join another religion in the world empire of false religion (btg), right?
not that it matters at all but just wondering.. .
Hi Brummie-
I too remember that apostates were rather rare. Growing up, I remember people talking about a local one, who was rumered to have started another religion. I think in reality it was a support group for ex witnesses run out of another church.
I also remember of course, those who faded away, and those that got df'd.
My understanding of an apostate, was not neccessarily one who went and joined another religion, but one who just told the WTS to take a flying leap, or in kinder words, simply felt that the WTS was not the true religion. I didn't think any other action was needed.
I still feel that way. There are those who are df'd, but believe it to be the truth, those who believe it but are "weak" and faded away, and then those who left knowing and feeling in their heart that the WTS is not IT.
