I fought the stairs and the stairs won...
by Trauma_Hound inif i seem out of it, for the next few days, it's because i fell down a flight of stairs, slipped on the carpeted stairs in my bare feet, and broke my tail bone, and split a toe open, and had to have stitches.
so i'm on heavey narcotics, and if you need to get ahold of me in any amount of time, then a phone call is the best bet.
ciao for now.

Birthdays and Holidays
by larc inwe all know the witness position of this subject.
i think they simply do not understand human nature.
they say that birthdays make a person self centered and egotistical.

It has always amused me how the WTS tweaks everything into their point of view. In this post, it is regarding the holidays.
What they fail to realize is that these are days designed to be special. I have only now had 2 birthdays actually celebrated for me, though I have been out much longer. Never did I feel egotistical, or anything. For me, it was a great excuse to go out to dinner with my wife, and then she suprised me at home with a bunch of my friends, and we spent the evening socializing.
Christmas was dismissed as not being Jesus's birthday, and "he never told us to honor his birthday, just his death", or how horrible it was that people were only nice to each other on the holidays. For sure we didn't want to be part of this evil system.
These special days, are just that. Time to spend with loved ones, and friends.

Holiday Witnessing
by WildTurkey ini hated holiday witnessing, man go to the door families trying to be together, and there we were standing there trying to get the magazines in their hands.
god i hated that, go to the door and the person who owns the house was not the one to answer the door, they tell you to wait a second as they go and get her/him, the whole damn family staring at you like a turd in the punch bowl.
then the house holder comes to the door with flour all over them, family just getting there walking in behind you, and you tell the house holder you will be just a second.

I always thought it was distasteful and rude to interupt the holidays by banging on the door. But I was a kid, and didn't have a choice.
As I became an adult, then I never went out on holidays. I figured that if I got the day off of work, I sure as hell was not going to get up early and go out in service. In fact, if the holiday fell on a meeting day, I did not attend that either.

Shepherding call after 7yrs
by Kep ini have been df since early 1995 and have never had the so called follow up visit by any elders.. saturday night i had a visitor.
it was a jw friend i have known for a very long time.
he was my best man and vice versa many years ago.

It sounds like the two of you really cared for each other. Is there any way to continue a friendship under the current circumstances?
Perhaps you gave him some really good points to ponder. Planting seeds is a great start.
To my knowledge, no one once has even attempted to follow up on me. Though I have moved several times, it has been locally, and it would not be too hard to find out where I am.

To the US Military
by freedom96 inthere have been many postings regarding the possible war with iraq.
there are many strong apposing views, as to be expected.. i personally am going to thank all those who are in the military; my hat is off to you, and i respect what you do, and i am very thankful.
you are the ones that must go out there and defend our freedoms.. i don't think most people desire war, but sometimes there seems to be little choice.

I don't think most people desire war, but sometimes there seems to be little choice. For those who are apposed to this military action, we may never know if you were right or wrong, whether Saddam was such a threat. But, if the past is a look into the future, there will be millions of lives saved by him not being in power. That is just counting the actual citizens of Iraq.
Again, all those who have served, or will, thank you.

For anyone to say that Bush is worse than Saddam.... it blows my mind. Unbelievable.
Let us not forget the horrible actions agains his own people that Saddam has done. And people think that even if he had the ability, that he would not send a nuke over to the US?
Wake up!!

Would you accept blood?
by JH inwould you give blood if there was an urgent need for it?
and if you were the one who needed blood, would you accept it?
-
freedom96
I would have accepted a blood transfusion even when I was a witness. I would have for myself, and my family. Though probably not for my ex wife. :)
It might be an interesting thought that it might be disrespectful to God, if you knew you could save yours or a loved ones life, if you didn't take ALL steps to save your life, even if it meant blood.

I am sure that God had his reasons. The fact is, that He can do anything, and wipe the slate clean if He wanted to. I am going to respect His wishes and the way He wants to do things.
For myself, I am not going to take too much time to ponder the issue. I don't think it is always up to us to have to know the answers to everything. The WTS always had the answer, and usually a wrong one.

Who do you say Jesus is?
by Blueblades in"all the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever were built, and all the parliments that ever sat,all the kings that ever reigned, put together have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerlly.
" "the historical result of jesus' activities was more momentous, even from a strictly secular standpoint, than the deeds of any other character of history.
a new era, recognised by the chief civilisations of the world, dates from his birth.

I think he is who it says in the bible.

The only beliefs that I continue is what I find in the bible directly. Usually those are things taught by most Christian religions. An example would be that there is a God, and his son is Jesus. The basic things taught through history in the bible. Be good to others, etc.
I think the WTS lost any and all credibity with their extreme beliefs, and saying they have the answer to everything. False prophecies, and hurting people such as medical issues, and the whole df'ing deal.
