I dislike it when some have to put down others who don't believe exactly as they do.

What do people do in a discussion that ticks you off?
by Terry inwe all enjoy an interesting discussion.
but, sooner or later it seem inevitable that somebody comes along and throws a monekywrench into the mechanism and the huge engine sputters to a halt.. what do people do in a discussion that ticks you off and stops the flow of conversation and turns it from being productive to unproductive?.
is it as simple as disagreeing with you?.

Are You or Were You Ever On Meds For Depression?
by minimus ini know so many people, not just witnesses that are on zoloft or similar drugs.
i know of some that, once they left the "truth", stopped taking these meds and have not had to go back on them.
i know of some that, if they did not have them, would not be able to properly function......what about you?

I haven't taken them, but for others, who it helps, good for them. At least with modern science there is something out there to help.

unforgivable sin
by MerryMagdalene intijkmo's post on watson's "hypothetical" thread got me wondering again...just what the heck is it to sin against the holy spirit according to jw beliefs/teachings?
for something so important as to be "unforgivable" it has always seemed awfully vague to me (so vague that i was sure as a kid that it must be masturbation and for years i felt the great weight of ultimate doom heavily upon me).
is it intentionally vague, do you think, just to keep everyone on their toes and hyper-paranoid or am i missing something?

I think mouthy summed it up perfectly.

They saw a ghost
by hamsterbait inas a youngster with the original green nwt i could never reconcile how the wts could print in a nt verse "they thought they had seen a ghost!
" when they were adamant such did not exist.. does anyone remember that verse (in acts, i think) i only have later editions where that and others are excised, and now s.o.
is trying to "smokescreen" me with the usual denial card.

The bible I have been reading, though I forget which version it is, reads "ghost."
I remember reading that just a couple of weeks ago in the non-denominational church I have been attending. I thought it was very interesting.
I have seen a ghost personally, and found this to be quite interesting.

Would you change your past if you could?
by John Doe ini used to live with many regrets, thinking that i'd screwed up.
recently, i've been thinking that regretting past actions is not constructive.
sure, we should base our current actions by assessing the results of our former actions, but regretting decisions we've made is, in effect, yearning to change the person we are now or rejecting ourselves.

I think all of us would change certain things in our life, but hopefully we have learned from our past. With that, we can make our future better.

left out in the cold
by donald inhello im new to this...my wife and i are still baptized....but weve not gone to meetings regulary...for some time now...even though we still go to the memorial.....and we are wondering if to go back.....here without being too specfic is our story.
i was rasied in the truth...she was not...she got baptized...about 3 years after we were married..i was made a m.s.
in 1990...but becuse of personal reasons i stepped down shortly after..i conecentrated on raiseing my family..and had to work 2 jobs to support them......3 children.....then a few years later my wife left me for some one else...and then i got very sick...and was told my kidney was failing....a elder came to my house and told me that if there was anything i neede that all i had to do was ask...well...a few weeks later i asked this elder...if he could get a couple of young brothers to hep me get rid off some boxes of stuff my wufe had left behind..because i could not lift them...he told me in a reproachful tone...get your family to help you...this after he had told me weeks before...to ask him for help........i thought at the time its no big deal....but then something else happen to call into question all about jw.

Prayers at mealtime!!?
by Frog inwho still find it strange years on to dive straight into your mail meal without 'giving thanks'?
i say main meal, because dad's prayers were always considerably lengthy before a main meal, and are an institution in every jw household.
even now after a few years i'm just about ready to tuck in when i find myself saying a simple thanks under my breath.

What I don't care for is the people who had to put on a show by praying loudly in public.
For those who wish to say a prayer before dinner at home, who does it hurt?

For a band that I don't care much for, they had a lot of great songs. I did enjoy November Rain, though I don't have time to watch videos.

What have you discovered on the journey?
by dh in.
the journey being life, what have you discovered that you never expected to... could be a musician, actor, a movie, a type of food, a thought, a realisation, a religion, a thing about your personality or an emotion, a particular song... it could be anything really.... what have you discovered?

I have learned to not care so much what other people think. Usually they are not thinking anyways, so it is just a waste of time.
