Funny, I remember going to the meeting and knowing if someone was there or not, by noticing if their car was in "their" spot. It seemed that everyone parked in the same spot and sat in the same spot every meeting. Creatures of habit, I suppose.

Should you keep an abusive marriage together for the sake of the children?

I don't think there is any reason to stay in an abusive relationship.

I remember my mom getting jumped on by the PO when he caught her looking at some Watchtowers from the early, early days. I think in the 30's or 40's, somewhere around there. You would think that the "truth" would have nothing to hide. Yeah right.

What was your most humiliating point of being a jw?
by love11 inmine was when my mom signed me up to sit at a table at our local university.
we had to sit there and talk to students as they passed by our table.
a few people came up to start a conversation and i didn't even know what they were talking about.

For myself, most of my time as a witness was as a child, so having to excuse myself from holidays sucked.

Anyone know about the martial arts?
by pennycandy inmy 11 year-old is getting picked on at school.
he is not cut out for competitive sports and not interested.
i've pushed my jw mindset aside and am considering letting him take a martial arts class (gasp).

I have taken martial arts for 16 years, and I highly recommend it.
It will teach self esteem, self defense, and respect.
Check out the instructor in advance, make sure he has a good kid class. It is nothing like the WTS would have liked us to believe. It is nothing but positive.
I have taught my kids to never start a fight, but they have my permission to end it. After a while of regularly training, your child will be able to do just that. The bully picks on them, and it is finished. If done right, your child won't have another problem.
Absolutely go for it!!

Karate Lessons
by Gill ini often feel that i'm on this site having a 'moan' about one thing or another but this is one confused country when it comes to any sense of law any sense of law and order in any form.
yesterday, on his way home from school, by son was attacked by someone with a record for violent behaviour, a boy of the same age.
i rang the school and the police because son received injuries and was threatened with more violence if he reported the attack.

I have taken martial arts for 16 years, and I highly recommend it for everyone, kids included.
Kids should not be pushed around by a bully. I have told my kids repeatedly, that never to start a fight. But, they have my permission to end it.
A good instructor will teach the children self control, and how to react when someone is threatening them. They will also punish a child who is abusing his new skills.
You will find much good in a well taught karate studio. I do not condone violence, however I will do whatever is neccessary to protect myself, my family, and my friends. I have no issue whatsoever in allowing my children the same abilities.

Political affiliation after leaving org.
by lucky inhow long did it take you to decide if you were a liberal or conservative after leaving the organization?
i find it interesting that even though it took me a number of years to get up the courage to vote, i knew right away i was politically/socially liberal.
i knew that i had strong feelings about protecting the environment, about civil rights, free speech, etc.

Stand on my own?
Absolutely! I would probably consider myself even more of an independent than anything else, however, independents don't have enough say or power politically speaking, so I must go with which side more expresses my personal viewpoints more than the other. There just is no question about it, that I must vote republican.

I am all for everyone taking their own position in regards to politics, but name bashing, is not called for, and the one doing it looks very small in my eyes.
I do find these threads entertaining, but rather pointless, because unless both sides are fair about their arguements, it goes no where, and you will not change the others mind.
Everyone has their own views of right and wrong, morals, etc. Just because one person feels one way, doesn't make them right or wrong, or a bad person. But lets be adult about it, and look at all sides, and sometimes, just best to disagree.
Many republicans who could back up what they were saying with facts have left this forum, due to the relentness attacks by those opposing them. It just wasn't worth it.
As I stated earlier on this thread, I do consider myself a moderate conservative, and I do vote republican. Do I consider republicans perfect? No, of course not. But I have major challenges with a lot of democrats, and their transgressions far outway most of the republicans.
Personally, I acknowledge that some of our taxes are put to good use. I have no problem paying my fair share. But when I have to fork over half of my hard earned income, that gets a bit extreme. I support those who want to do something for themselves, and work hard and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Don't compare me to all the republicans you hate. I stand for me, and what I do for myself and my family. I help others, and take care of my family. I work hard, and I expect to see results from what I do, just as anyone else should have the right to do. But just because I work both hard and smart, doesn't mean that I need to take most of my money and share it with everyone else. Those that are here legally have the same opportunities as I, so they need to go out and do what makes them happy, instead of relying on a handout.
Just because you think different, doesn't make you better, or smarter. Just makes you look pitiful.
I believe what I do, and I respect what you believe. Leave it at that. This is not meant just at one particular person, but anyone who has the attitude of they are the only ones who are right, and all others are stupid.
