To be honest, I didn't think about it too much. I was raised a witness, and knew nothing else. By the time I became a logical, thinking adult, I had long quite going to the meetings.

Why did YOU want to live forever??
by Scully inwhat was it about living forever that appealed to you when you were a jw?.
was it the idea that you'd have all the time in the world to do whatever you wanted to do?
were you thinking about travelling the world and seeing it all transformed into a paradise?

Not all goals are just down the road.
by kenpodragon ini was fishing along a mountain stream and working my way up into a canyon of northern california.
the stream was running pretty good, and the plant life was starting to grow over the water in some places.
forming a natural bridge of life from one side to the other.

Good point to consider Kenpo.

A First Date
by Dutchie inits been almost two years since my husband passed away.
i never really though about going out with anyone romantically until just recently.
i was born into the truth.

One thing to keep in mind Dutchie, is that there are good people everywhere. Congrats for taking the plunge, and remember, there are many good men out there that will treat you right.
The one man that I try to emulate, was not a witness, nor would he ever be one. But he had a firm belief in God, treated his wife of 40 years like a princess, and had the values that I respected.
He is a pillar, a rock, the way a man ought to be. And he never was a witness. They do exist. Sure, there are some roaches out there, but as we all know, there are many undesireable men out there that are witnesses.
Good luck!

Jobs that the WTS doesn't approve of
by freedom96 inthere were several different careers that the wts did not aprove of.
such as a being a cop, for having a gun.
couldn't be a martial arts instructor.. maybe it was a well paying career.. did you have a job that was not approved of?

I agree hamptonite. However, for the good witness, they would certainly want to advance, and not being given privledges, you might as well have a big ol stamp on the forhead saying, bad association.
That was bad enough for many to abandin their careers. For a group of people so worried about what others thought, many left their jobs, so they could be accepted with open arms.

Is the basis for the "true religion" ...
by Gig ini am not and have never been a jw.
however, i have spent the last two years meeting with them and studying with them.
not to worry, from practically my first day of research (independent thinking) i discovered what i am convinced is a very clear example of false religion.

Welcome to the board Gig, and very good thought provoking question. I will let others answer, because I have been out for a few years, and don't have a clue what the latest change is. Not that I paid much attention to begin with anyways.

I've never met a JW who had confidence....

It has got to be difficult when presented with a valid reason why it isn't the truth. Somewhere, it has got to eat at them.
I think the biggest problem, is fear. They are not allowed to talk about it with anyone, even the closest of friends, let alone a spouse.
I have heard before "Where else would we go?" and that is brought out by just plain old fear.
The fear to change, ranks right up there with the worst fears of all.

WHAT IS DEJA VU??
by Mary in.
i think everyone has had an experience with deja vu; i know i have and it's really freaky when it happens.
i'll be standing there talking to someone and that feeling comes over me that i've done this before; i've had the exact same conversation with this person and i can even predict what they're going to say.. with someone i know, that's one thing; having this experience with someone i've never met before is really bizarre.. i've heard all kinds of theorys as to what deja vu is: a "delay" in the brain, reincarnation, someone in the future has changed the past and we sometimes 'repeat' things, it's all in your head, it's satan.......... i'd be interested to hear what sort of experiences you've had with deja vu and what you think it is........ .

It is freaky when it happens, isn't it? I cannot think of any particular times at the moment, but when it does happen, it is sooo weird. What is more strange, though, is I feel myself almost knowing what is going to happen while I am going through it. Bizzare to say the least.

Life on other planets?
by freedom96 inas jw's, we were taught that there is no way that there is life anywhere but here on earth.. i personally never bought into that completely.
there are billions and billions of solar systems out there.
i do believe that absolutely there is life on other planets.

As JW's, we were taught that there is no way that there is life anywhere but here on earth.
I personally never bought into that completely. There are billions and billions of solar systems out there. I do believe that absolutely there is life on other planets. Is it intelligent? I don't know. I think there is plant life, I believe there are other planets capable of sustaining humans, with vegetation, water, air. Are there animals? I would think perhaps there are bug like creatures, maybe small animals. I do not find it that hard to believe. Is there actually intelligent life as we know it? Don't know. Aliens visiting our planet? I think unlikely.
I just would be suprised that with God creating earth, and having all that power, that he would settle on just one planet that would be life sustaining.
For those who do not believe in God, we got here somehow. Did lilfe come to exist just like us on other planets, solar systems? Would that not seem likely?

Do You Believe In God Or Not?
by minimus inif you've been associated with the witnesses, believing in god was a necessity.
do you still feel that god exists?
if you believe in god, do you feel that he cares about you?
-

I do believe in God.
I do will not ever belong to another organized religion though.
