When you compare what a classic cult requires, with what is required as a witness, it is scary. While I don't know if the WTS purposely sets out to "mind control" everyone, it is evident by their teachings and requirements to stay a witness in good standing.

Brain Washing? Mind Control?
by Sirona indo the jehovahs witnesses use brain washing or mind control techniques?.
if a good dub attends 5 hours of meetings a week, does 2 hours of service a week and does 1 hour of personal study a week, this adds up to 416 hours a year of time thinking and being "taught" about jehovahs witness beliefs.
416 hours adds up to about 11 working weeks a year!

have you been tricked about honesty?
by wheelwithinwheel ini was brought up to believe i was part of the only honest group of people on the planet.
the worldly people were gougers, thieves and downright dishonest.
when wed go to the mall and some charity would ask for a donation, my parents would politely refuse, then tell us kids the charity was crooked and skimmed off most of the money for itself.

I have seen witness businessmen first hand be about as dishonest as they could be, and this even against other witnesses.
I think a good percentage witnesses are probably fairly honest by nature, however to say they are the only ones, is far from correct. I don't think any group of people are immune to human nature to sometimes not do the right thing.

Thanks for your comments. I suppose the challenge that I am having, is that if I am df'd, then my ex will do everything in her power to make sure that my child and I don't see each other. Sure, there are consequences for her in court, but that won't stop her. Plus, even though she really can't keep my child from seeing me, (she has done, and will continue to do,) she will continue to instill the WTS crap into him, saying how he really shouldn't be seeing me. This will cause even more trouble after he turns 18, when he legally doesnt have to come over, and the WTS might have its grip on him, and make life miserable if he sees me.
This whole thing sucks. I work hard to let him understand the way it should be. He lives far away, so only visits during school vacations. Otherwise, my ex and the local congregation have all the time they need to try to control him.

by Adam ini work at a job where my primary mode of comunication is the telephone.

I think it is just that persons way of being a nice person. Most people who say that do not mean others harm, and just is polite. I would rather hear that than someone saying to go F*** off.

So the elders come a knockin. They ask "the question": So, do you consider yourself a Jehovah's Witness?
What is the correct answer so they don't DA or DF you?
I normally would not care, in fact I would DA myself, but with a young child involved, and about 2 friends, I do not want any label on me except for "spiritually weak."

Can we really fade away for good
by JH ini was wondering how long an inactive witness can stop going to meetings before the elders can disfellowship the person?
some are saying that the elders will visit inactive ones in jan, feb, march.
is there a strategy up their sleeve?

I would imagine you could go on for awhile, unless they knew something specific to nail us on. They have not contacted me, and though I have moved several times, and several phone changes over the last 8 years, I am still in the vicinity. In fact, I pass the hall every day.
They really would not be able to find me at home unless someone told them. Be interesting to see what happens.

My guess is that they will assume that your husband spoke for both of you. Too bad they gotta go to such lengths to find people and disrupt their lives. Good for your husband for standing up for himself.

My Finale on the Internet - Forword to 3 Parts
by Amazing inlife is tough regardless of whether we were ever jws.
my own life has taken some twists and turns i did not expect or like ... and i have to focus all my attention now on getting my badly needed open-heart surgery or face death in about six months ... so in the next couple of days, i am making the last of three posts for a while ... then all my efforts will be aimed at getting better, and facing some issues in my life and making the best decisions possible for me and my family.
i decided to limit many activities because i tend to do too much and neglect some things that i should not ... this is not a good-bye post, but more of a long vacation post.
