I grew up as a witness, and though I never put an exact date on when I thought the end was coming, I did feel cheated out of a life. I wanted to grow old, have a family, enjoy life on earth, in this "system of things". I happen to love it here!

What was your deadline?
by JH inwhen you joined the jw's, what year did you set in your mind as the latest date for the new system?
we were all told that the end was very close, but how close did you think it was, when you joined?
if you would have known that the end was atleast 30 or 50 years away, would you have pioneered as much, or would you have given as much time to them, or would you have kept much more time for yourself?

Activity in other countries
by freedom96 init seems that most of the postings on this site are from the united states, england, and australia.
that could be a result that computers and internet are more easily available in those countries.
plus, do to the fact that most postings are from those countries, we also have the most complaints.

It seems that most of the postings on this site are from the United States, England, and Australia. There are a few others, but I believe that most are from those 3.

What I am wondering, is if other countries feel the same pain that is talked about. Is the df'ing rate the same, is the WTS quite as strict? Is there as much of an uproar over the issues that have been talked about here?
Again, with limited internet access, maybe the witnesses there are not as aware of what is going on. Are these other countries growing? I think that with the communication that the internet allows, there is going to be many more leaving in the next few years. But, that is because of people getting educated from various channels, such as internet, radio, tv, newspapers. For those without access, are they going to keep growing? And, do they realize the extent of how bad things really are within the organization?

Weird and unusual Kingdom Halls
by Junction-Guy indoes anyone here have any experiences with any unusual kingdom halls, such as architecture, location and furnishings.
in eaton ohio there was a small kingdom hall that sat next to the railroad tracks and everytime the train went by it shook the building.
in salyersville ky there was a small kingdom hall in a storefront buliding, no sound system and they had a kerosene heater at the back of the hall.

We were taught how horrible and full of demons churches were, so imagine my suprise when the WTS bought an old church, re-did it, and now it holds 3 Kingdom Halls inside.

Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?
by MYOHNSEPH inthere's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.
are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?
if you answer is in the affirmative, some related questions are:.

re: lastest fuss on getting rid of inactives
by bay64me ina lot has been discussed here of late about the disfellowshiping of inactive ones.. in my old hall i know a sister that started smoking again and when found out she insisted that her reproof must be private and not public otherwise she would never return to the hall.
she pulled it off.. i know a brother that became inactive and started smoking.
the elders appeared to leave him alone, but one day they pounced and he is now disfellowshipped.. i know a ministerial servant that caused a great deal of upset in the congregation because of his lies and decietfulness, (causing divisions).

It seems quite severe that they want to get rid of all inactive ones, but I understand why they are doing it.
The clock is clicking away if they truly intend on getting to everyone by the memorial. I don't think they can do it.

Memorial and Marketing
by JH ini looked at the memorial attendance for 2001 on the watchtowers site, and it adds up to 15,375,000 people who attended the memorial world wide.
although there is only 6,117,000 witnesses in the world, do you believe that these additional 9.200,000 people who attended the memorial will one day fall into the hands of the watchtower?
if the memorial didn't exist, then 9.2 million people wouldn't have went to the hall in the first place.
-
freedom96
Those who attend just on the memorial seem to not really care about the rest of it all, so I am not too worried about them falling victim to the WTS.
Also, I cannot imagine anyone who went to the memorial would have gotten all excited and joined up. Talk about a dull boring night.

Money and happiness?
by eyeslice ineveryone in the truth, knows it is the "love of money", not money itself that is wrong.
i am well aware that money in itself does not bring happiness.. what i detect though amongst the witnesses is almost an antipathy to money and wealth.
one sister i was speaking to the other day complained about all the spending that goes on at xmas.

Actually, if one reads the bible, there is nothing wrong with having money. Look at some of the most dedicated ones to God; they were among the wealthiest in the world.
If you don't have money, it is hard to help those in need. I really believe that there is nothing wrong in the pursuit of happiness.
The fact is, yes, money may not make one happy. But neither does poverty!!
Here is another fact to think about: If money was not a challenge in your own home, how many fights would there be with your spouse? IF you were really honest about it? May not solve all problems by any means, but I would venture a guess that if you took all money challenges out of your life, 95% of all problems would go away. That would leave plenty of time to handle the other part.

Did a stranger baptize you?
by JH inshouldn't it have been the person who gave you your bible study, that should have baptized you?
in matthew 28:19,20 it says "go therefore and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit.. the way i see it, it should have been the one who gave you the biblical knowledge, that should have baptized you.
making disciples is phase one, and baptizing them is phase two.

I don't have a clue of who baptized me. Just another one lining up.
