Once again, the WTS stepping in when they have no business to do so.
If I were him, I would support his daughter at the wedding, and not give a rats ass what the local elders said.
my sister is planning on getting married within the next few months.her jw husband committed adultery and left her when their son was 7 weeks old.after getting a scriptural divorce she began a friendship with a "worldly" man and now this friendship has grown to a soon-to-be marriage.
this man studied with the jw's for a while but could see right through them found too many of their teachings didn't make sense so he stopped studying.he's made his stand with my sister and told her she can still attend meetings if she wants to.he's also a good worker and seems to really love the kids.he's not perfect but no worse than many jw husbands.
anyways, the elders pulled my dad aside on tuesday night and told him he could(could????!@#*?

in the last month i left my job of 15 years for a new company (better benefits, room for advancement, yadda yadda).
i'm pretty excited about this new job - and it's a very large company.
there are over 4,000 employees in just this one branch division that i work in.
Well, this witness gal is going to be the one tortured every day, hoping she doesn't run into you. Perhaps she will seek other employment.

sometimes you just dont need an economy car.......
That is too funny!
did you ever dream that you'd be posting here too?
I grew up a witness, and though I hated it, I had no pre-planned escape.
I faded away, and for me, that worked best.
I guess I never saw myself banging on doors all my life, or going to the meetings. But I never dwelled on it either.
if you aren't a "believer", does it bother you when someone says "i'll pray for you" or "i prayed for you"?.
one of my colleagues is an incredibly kind and sweet person, and i know she says it because she believes she's doing something good on my behalf.
i always say "thank you for thinking of me", because i know that's the spirit she's intending to convey and that she cares about the situation i'm in vis-a-vis my jw relatives, but she knows i no longer believe in god (at least not in the sense that she does) - i wonder does she think that a few prayers are going to change my mind?
I find no harm in someone saying "I prayed for you."
They are being sincere, and it shows that they actually care. What is wrong with that?? Best case, the prayer works, worst case, nothing happens. Either way, it doesn't hurt anyone.
if someone put a gun to your head and you had to choose, which one would you say is the worst?
also, which religion is more doctrinally incorrect?
which religion has the most false end of the world dates?
A friend of mine is a mormon, and I did go to a couple of their meetings, and got to know quite a few of them.
They definately have some wacked out beliefs, but they are not as extreme as witnesses. They pretty much live a "normal" life, but they definately have their cultish traits as well.
They are very family oriented, and seem to be a good bunch of people.
If you do things that go against their teaching, you will be punished, though not as severe as the witnesses.
.
men have facial hair and women don't, and that's god who decided that.. so why can't brothers have beards or goatees.
.
It amazes me that more witnesses don't see how silly this rule is. Come on, a beard?! Though you won't be df'd for it, you know they won't get to do anything in the hall, and will be looked down upon.
I remember in the late 70's, maybe early 80's a guy in the hall was on stage, and tears were coming down his face as he told everyone his decision to shave his mustache, so that he wouldn't stumble anyone. Even though he had it his entire adult life.
And of course he was praised for this.
they were jws and blame everything on their jw past???
i know of people that never tried to get ahead or prosper themselves because they were witnesses.
never bought a house or a brand new car because they would rather rent and drive around in a jalopy that would break down.
It is never too late to make something of our lives, even if much of it was spent being a witness. Sitting around whining about it won't work. There are so many things that we can do for ourselves, we just have to have the mind set to do it.
something i?ve wanted to ask you all for a while.
had you 100% denounced jw doctrine to yourself at the time of your leaving the org?
i know many have said that specific issues prompted them to leave i.e., wt membership in the un, silent lambs/child molestation policy, malawi political party card issues, inconsistent changes in doctrine i.e., 1975/1914 generation not passing?new light begets old light begets new light etc.
I faded away, and then learned the truth behind the WTS.
It took some time to realize that what they taught wasn't the truth. When that happened, I felt free.
it looks like this woman hoaxed the whole thing by using her friend's severed finger!
woman who claims she found finger in chili won't sue wendy's
