I never heard about being able to look at someones cards for themselves, but I many times heard people talking about the spirituality of someone else that they were interested in, and using that as a gauge on whether or not they would pursue them or not.

yes, on july 17th, 1970, my wife and i were baptized as jws at the "men of good will" district assembly (convention today), at the oakland, california coliseum - where the raiders play.
nearly 70,000 attended, and over 750 were baptized ... and it all made the news in the san francisco chronicle & examiner and other newspapers and radio stations.

Ever got stung or bitten by animals?

I was driving about 60 mph with my windows rolled down, when a wasp got sucked in and stung/ smacked me in my face at great force.
A friend of mine lost his snake, and went to bed. He found it when it bit his toe underneath the covers.

I think most witnesses simply shut down their reasoning side, and don't allow the hint of disbelief to even enter their mind. It is easier that way.

well the truth was, i just didn't want to be a jehovah's witness any more, so i said, well i'll be doing it again i reckon.. isn't this true of most people who get df'ed.

One problem is the vast amount of personalities involved. You can have elders like you encountered, and there are many others chomping at the bit to disfellowship people.

Inappropriate "shepherding" calls.

or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.
and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!

I remember one time in particular, that they came to the house, and I simply told them this was not a good time. They insisted on coming in still, but I wouldn't let them. The look on their face was priceless.

Friends of mine sometimes will ask what I do when witnesses come knocking on the door. First of all, it happens very rarely.
But my reaction greatly has to do with the attitude of the person talking with me. The other day, a father with his two daughters came to the house. The girls were probably 6 and 15, and the dad gave the most pitiful presentation I have ever heard. I took what he gave me, and he left. What was the point to bash him? None.
However, this guy who started this thread. Give me a chance with him. That, my friends, would be highly entertaining.
