So the kids each paid $9 for the frame, which gives a total of $27. The shopkeeper has $2, for a total of $29.
($9x3=$27, $27+$2=$29)
-------------
The $2 is already a part of the $27 which was paid to the shopkeeper --------- You must add the $3 given back to the kids.
27+3=30

WHY?
by LaCatolica inforgive me all, but i'm trying to understand things about the jws.
why do they have to go door to door?.
why are they so manipulated brainwashed by the wts?.
-
rassillon
I agree with some of the above posts, I am just adding some of my own perstective in addition. --- Why do they have to go door to door? *JW don't "HAVE" to go door to door, that is a misconception. In many areas it is considered the most effecient method to cover a territory and maintain records of such, making the effort to reach everyone possible. Other forms of ministry are acceptable, including informal, at work, street witnessing, letter writing, etc... Anyone who tells you that door to door is a "requirement" is not accurate, though it is strongly encouraged. Why are they so manipulated brainwashed by the WTS? *Once someone is convinced that something is true, an individual starts to rely on the source of that percieved truth. This is not necessarly a bad thing since if one did not have a strong conviction and loyalty they would be swayed by any idea comming along. Someone posted a good link to an article which discussed the physiology behind beliefs, it was quiet reasonable, It is a few post back in a topic I started. Why do they consider other faiths pagan or bad? *In their POV these faiths have compromised and incorporated pagan beliefs. Doing so in their minds makes them pagan. This is a point that could be argued, but you would have to examine JW beliefs as well. Who decided that birthdays are pagan celebrations and are thus BAD? What does one have to do with the other? *Many secular researchers have identified that the origin of birthday celebrations were associated with non-jew non-christian peoples often times noting astrological significance. As for birthday cakes well wishing and other common birthday stuff, these all have roots in superstition, pagan worship, and spiritism. One needs to ask themselves how far removed does a custom need to be from its pagan, spiritistic origins before it is not offensive to God. I am not the one to say, each has to choose for themselves. Where in the Bible does it say that displaying flags is so BAD? Again, what does one thing have to do with the other? *The bible does not say displaying flags is bad, infact the bible indicates that isreal used flags/banners, likely to identify belonging to a particular tribe. It is a symbol that identifys you with a particular country today, thus those taking the bible's command to be seperate from the world very literal may feel that displaying a flag is not in harmony with their faith. Why do JWs take the Bible so literally for some things and then symbolically when it's convenient to them? *The fact is that the bible is at times literal and at times symbolic. Different ones take various parts to be either or as they feel it agrees with their "understanding" of the bibles message and what they believe as "truth" HTH

My Friend Tony: The "REAL TRUTH" About Easter, The Eggs, Rabbits And Cross
by wanda inmy friend tony, easter, the eggs, rabbits and cross .
this magazine article will really make you wide awake as to why easter isnt for truly mature christians, the man told tony on a spring day as he stood in a dark blue suitcoat and necktie at tonys door along with a younger blonde-headed woman.
tony, who was thirteen, asked the man.

That is really funny...it just so happens I was speaking with a young boy named Tony who was relating the same experience and when he mentioned the part about the Easter possible taking it name from the the anglo-saxon word eastern I said "that is quite possible especially since the word for eastern/east came from the name of the Goddess *Austron, a goddess of fertility and sunrise whose feast was celebrated at the ring equinox, from *austra-, from PIE *aus- "to shine" (especially of the dawn). So therefor they have the same source, possibly" He mentioned that christians used eggs as representations of new life, and I said "that may be so but this was most likley after they had obsorbed many customs from formerly pagan peoples also it has been well attested to that rabbits & eggs are symbols of fertility and the rabbit was used as a representation of the previously mentioned goddess" Well, he continued to mention the point about the cross and and read the scriptures in galations and 1 corinthians, I said that was interesting and asked him to read Deut 4:15-19 and once he was finished I explained that the scripture indicated that they should make an image of nothing so that they would not be "seduced" to bow down to it and that we want to be carefull about religious symbols that we do not give them special importance. I commended him for having an intrest in unbiased truth and we went our seperate ways. Hey, I can be funny too!

Well, my wife flipped out.
by rassillon ini hope i don't go too long with this.... last night my wife and i were talking about her day in service.
we talked about several things of little consequence and then i made mention of a point out of the reasoning book to underscore the importance of our need to be well versed in the facts that support our beliefs.
said point is on 416 of the rs book.

Quotes : I appreciate sarcasm, It is basically how I am able to get through the day.
If I am married to your ex, you got any tips? ;)
Gumby, I understand your point. I will be cautious, but as Quotes can testify she is a power keg and I don't know if it is possible to reconcile both her nature and my desire for truth, no matter how well I handle the matter, I definitly want to keep my marriage intact, only time will tell....I am sure I could go much much further into detail, I just don't feel like it right now.
ringo5, yes it is possible that I could be much more alone and married than I would be single. Not that I want to be single.
And to whoever asked, i can't remember, Yes Dr. Who - I love it - Tom Baker was my fav, although the new Doctor is quite good.

let me get this straight for everyone.
I did not start anything, it was just a conversation.
It was an interesting point in the RS book.
I was not trying to start working on my wife, that is something in the future, I still have much research to do myself before I even consider that.
I just thought it amazing that something so inocuos that was actually in a currently used publication would trigger such a reaction and contemplated how such a reaction bodes for the future event which will at some point come.
If I did not convey this in my post, I apologize. I thought I did.
Please read carefully what I write, I generally try not to imply nor mean anything beyone what I write.
Oh yeah, another thing, I said it before but I want to make sure everyone knows. I don't believe in the trinity doctrine nor in the divinity of jesus, nor do I believe that the holy spirit is a person.
Thanks and sorry for the confusion.....R

I'd like to know WHY you plan on pushing her more. Why? She's already close to "packing her bags"...yet you want to push her some more. Is there a reason you weant to push her some more? Do you love her? Does she love you? Then WHY push her out the door?
I see this crap too many times and I see families destroyed by ex-witnesses going beyond where they should know to keep quiet. I'd suggest you think long and hard about continuing on with your "pushing her".....unless you want to live alone.
Gumby
:EndQuote:
Gumby, you seem angry....I guess you have your reasons.
You are terming it "pushing" which I take slight offense to since this is not my way of doing things at all.
I can understand that it is not immediatly obvious the time factor involved in my planned revelation. Which may span months, who knows even years.
You have to understand something, I am a MS and have lots of responsabilities. That coupled with my wife's personality would cause all kinds of havoc if I just started doing less without good reason. You see, in a relationship like I have with my wife, we talk have a good time listen to each other (on most things) and encourage each other. She would be genuinely concerned about me and questions would ensue. If I avoided giving her a good reason for my actions we would drift apart because she would feel like I would be deceiving her which would be true if even for her own good.
So you tell me gumby, would you preferr I let my wife feel like I had stopped loving her (and all the things that come with that) and keep it to myself OR should I try in a very tactful way present evidence as to why I feel the way I do and reassure her that I love her as much as ever??
You don't know me nor my wife and I would appreciate you not using MY thread or experience to get on your soap box.

Last night my wife and I were talking about her day in service. We talked about several things of little consequence and then I made mention of a point out of the reasoning book to underscore the importance of our need to be well versed in the facts that support our beliefs. Said point is on 416 of the RS book. I did not quote it from comming from there. It was the point that based solely on the Greek grammatical structure there in no definitive way to prove the correct translation of John 1:1 (FYI: I do not believe in a trinity, just like to be honest about the facts). Weeelllll, I realize most witnesses don't know this and since I did not quote my source, my wife gets up and goes walks out of the room and starts saying that "I don't like where this is going". She cut me off before I was able to expound on the fact that we have to look at the whole body of truth found in the bible which is what helps us come to a proper understanding of the relationship of Jesus and his father Jehovah.
I follower her inquiring (in a slightly irritated manner) what the deal was. She indicated that she did not like the conversation and that it was starting to sound Apostate! Well, this was just weird, as much as I tried to explain about how important it is for us to understand what we believe she got more adamant that she didn't want to hear it and that she does her research in the societys publications and where did I get this from AND if I had this conversation with anyone else she would pack up and LEAVE!!!!
In the end after more "discussion" I showed here the information in the RS book, and get this, she wanted to argue about what it said there and that was not what I said.
I guess she has a hair trigger when it comes to something outside of "safe information."
I knew she would not be very receptive to things that expose the society but I did not realize that I would experience the society's shutdown circut even with things that are not that obvious in the publications.
Hey that is my term "Society's Shutdown Circut", I think they install it when you get baptized.
Anyway my mind raced for several hours since I know the inevitable I did not get to sleep till 2am, eventually I will have to tell her when I have all of my proof documented. Based on last night I am not hopefull. I even wept, and if you knew me, crap just don't effect me like that. But my wife is a different story.

juni : Way ahead of ya, but thanks for the suggestion, I have CoC and ISoCF on the way ssshhh.... be vewy vewy quiet we're hunting JWabbits....don't want to get caught reading those things.....
Already read some of the online chapters.
daystar: Why today? - Well, no particular reason. Registered a few days ago, had some free time here at work, and saw another intro thread.
all: thanks for the advise, and yes I would like to stay married. My wife is a sweetheart, beautiful, and a much better person than I. I do realize that there is the possibility that things might get sour. My main reason for wanting to be all researched up before I even let a peep go. I will have to take a stand since my wife would be genuinely concerned for me if I just started fading for "no" reason. Although I do have some crazy family members.....nah, that wouldn't work since I am such a hard-ass when it comes to responsability for actions and such.
Just so's ya know, unlike many of you who despise the society, I feel no malice toward them since it is MY responsability to KNOW what load of BS I am accepting as I believe is the same for everyone else. This is the main reason I wanted to dig deeper. I wanted to have ROCK SOLID EVIDENCE that what I believed was FACT beyond ANY reasonable argument. Well, as I always say, ignorance is bliss!!
