Real religion?
by I-follow-the-narrow-path inwith all the talk around of people saying they know the real religion... do you (presonally) think that there is a real religion?.
personally, i think that it is hard to argue what the right religion is.
there are so many different translations of the bible.

I agree with all of the above. Think about this for you Christians out there, Jesus did not start a religion - he started a faith. There is a big difference. Religion is an institution that has done nothing good for mankind and has been used to dominate other men for centuries.
Like this famous quote of Russell: Religion is a snare and a racket!
No matter what our religious belief we all want the same things. A closer realtionship with our creator (for those who believe in one), a happy healthy life and family, peace in the world. No one is greater or better than anyone else just because they hold to a particular belief.

<thoughts> Having left just the JW's "cult" or some more to?
by spiceant ini have read a lot of text and story's about people that leave the jw's and this appears to be pretty much all that's being talked about.. i assume you believe that you have done right by your opposing stand to the jw's because you believe you have been done evil (or have seen jw's do evil) and probably right so.
do you people still pray to jehova and study the bible (on your own for once) as to get to know jehova's purpose for us?.
i wonder about this because i fear that you might "revert" back to the common western culture (assuming you live in one because you'r after all reading this over the internet) which i appal and detest in very many of its motivational aspects (that is, the motivations of its people) that are crudely speaking, selfish and ultimately, in the generations long run destructive.

Hi spiceant,
welcome to the forum. here in the states, the Witnesses show NO love or tolerance for anyone but themselves and are taught to HATE non witnesses and therefore address them as "worldly" which is not a nice term.
Also just for the fact that as an organization they believe God only works through them they are showing their arrogance. God works thru anyone he chooses by use of Holy Spirit. My experience with the witnesses having been one for 12 years is that they are arrogant, unloving, unkind, unjust, people haters, world haters, haters of other religions, scornful, mockful, distrusting of anyone and anything not witness.
Your experience may be different as I have met some of different countries who were more tolerant than the American Witnesses.
As far as my relationship with Jehovah, I still have it and it is much stronger. I worship him in the way he intended for Christians which is not through an organization (all the old ways were done away with) but by having a relationship with him through his son and my mediator Jesus Christ. All things, all people and all authority are currently subjected under his feet and this is Jehovah's arrangement. I read the bible daily and I am still learning new things. Its been two years already and I am very surprised to see just how much I learned from the WT was was wrong. And I pray everyday addressing Jehovah as "father" which is the proper way to address him if you are his son/daughter, and not by his proper name Jehovah. Who addresses their earthly father by his name? Why would you call your heavenly father, if he is that to you, by his proper name?
Anyway, this site serves a different purpose for many. Some it is for learning new things, some support, some making new friends. Also it does serve to get the truth out about the WT. I am curious as to why if you are so in love with being a Jehovah's Witness, you are on this site?
Do not be misled about us. Many are still Christians, many found the true meaning of Christianity upon LEAVING the Witnesses. You can read my story on the Freeminds website. My name is Lillian Cruz. If you would like to know more about my personal relationship with the Lord Jesus, please feel free to pm me. God bless!

Have I changed?
by I-follow-the-narrow-path inyesterday my ex-boyfriend came into town, several months ago who moved away and we had to break off our relationship.
the relationship was rocky; however, before he was going to move, so it was easy to let him go.
we reconciled as he was away and we are good friends.

I agree with all the replies so far but want to add one more thing. Now that I am out of the Org. I realize how arrogant I was when in thinking that WE alone were the only ones who knew God or worshipped him properly. I am utterly ashamed of ever having that view. What I knew was not even God, or Jesus, or the bible it was Watchtower doctrine. And there is a big difference. Since leaving I have met many many Chrisitans who know their bibles very well.
As far as the term "true Christians" you should be careful how you use that term. We are not supposed to judge others and their relationship with God. Because the bible does say "with the measure you are judging, you will be judged". You cannot read anyones heart and therefore cannot call them True or False Christians.

The Catholic Church is not anywhere near as controlling as the WT. And the thing with the WT is they make you think you are using your free choice and bible trained conscience but if you go against what they interpret should be your bible conscience you will be promptly disfellowhipped.
For instance, unlike the Catholic Church the WT has rules regulating every day life including: how to dress, your hairstyle, who your friends could be, whether you can vote or salute the flag, rules about not observing holidays and birthdays, how to raise your kids, must attend five meetings a week, field servie mandatory, must report time to elders, and many, many, many, more rules. They use peer pressure to make you conform because you will be labeled as spiritually weak for making the wrong choice or worse.
So you think you have a choice in the matter: please think about these two points.
#1 you would NEVER have been allowed to get baptized if you went against any of the above named rules of the society and that is only a small list
#2 once you are baptized, any going against the above rules will result in a JC meeting, reproof or if you continue disfellowshipping.
The WT gives the allusion that you are making up your own mind but you really are not. For instance if I asked you do you want beef or chicken? Do you really have a free choice here? Free choice would be that you could say, I want fish instead. No fish here only beef or chicken. This is exactly what the WT does, it is either their views only or you are out!
Unlike the Catholic Church and mind you I am not a Catholic, the parishoners have a lot of freedom of choice. In my own nieghborhood the archbishop wanted to closs a church and the members protested and even had overnight vigils so they could not close the doors. Well, after a month, the members of the church won and the archbishop backed down. The church was saved from closing! Can you imagine the Witnesses getting together in a similar situation and having a choice of whether or not he KH closes? It would never be up for discussion because if you raised the issue you would be reproved or worse on the grounds of being insuborinate to the society and the elders. The members in the hall have NO say at all about what happens to the building as the WT publishing company owns it.
Many churches are against the DaVinci code - personally it does not bother me as a Christians as after all it is a work of FICTION. It does not affect my faith at all. And I guarentee you the WT will also say something against it just like all the other churches in Christendom. They may not picket but then most of the churches will not picket either. but the message will be the same - don't go see it! I guess it is one more thing they will have in common with Christendom - just wait and see.

A question for those with faith

Little Toe,
Good point and good question, why should God interfer? Man is in control of this planet and all the evil done on it is totally his fault and not God's fault. Except for acts of nature, most of the evils can be corrected if not for man trying to dominate man.
For instance, there should be absolutely NO starving people in the world because the earth produces enough food for all mankind. It is because of corrupt man in government that food is not getting to the right people.
All the wars and killings today are man sanctioned not God sanctioned, there is also man committing acts of violence on young children which he does of his own initiative
Man decided in his own wisdom to create nuclear weapons which could destroy all of mankind. I still cannot fathom any reason that is legitimate for such a creation. Man is also responsible for genocide in many countries to date.
Even Christians today cannot agree on basic things relating to the bible and get into heated arguements over it, I've seen it sometimes get to throwing punches or worse, and why? Man has a big pride and has to be right about everything.
I personally believe God will get involved one day but why he doesn't now I think its because he has a bigger plan that he is working out which will benefit all mankind in the future. But the wait is certainly hard and this is something many hope for every day.

es,
I felt sorry for your parents when I read their letter. You can see that they are clearly so brainwashed that it is affecting the natural affection they should have for you as their child and their grandchildren. I cannot imagine not being part of my kids lives no matter what religion they chose. How sad for them.
As far as your response, I thought you did a great job. You have a responsibility as a mom to protect your child above all else. Even if it means not having a relationship with your parents. And you certainly do not want your son brainwashed by them or used as a weapon against you. I have seen this happen many times.
I know it is hard right now but you are doing the right thing 100%. God bless you and I will pray for your parents and everyone like them. We should all pity them, they are not free as God intended them to be. They are captives of the organization. They may put up a happy front but we know they are miserable inside. Remember the isolation we all felt being in the org?
Good luck with the baby!

Hooked on answers
by KW13 ineveryone who becomes a witness is attracted a lot by the fact they "hold the answers".
the society "provide the truth" but folks end up believing the truth is the organization.
pretty soon, there is nothing else on earth and the person that was desperate for something becomes a know-it-all.

KW13,
you are wise beyond your years. I am 37 and recently learned that same lesson. NO ONE has ALL the answers ALL the time. And if they say they do, run the other way!
How are you my friend? Hang in there and keep learning and exploring new things. Lilly
