Get educated, work hard and save, save, save. You will not regret it. You may be able to retire early (I hope to at 59, possibly 55).

I HAVE NEVER MET A JW WHO WAS NOT HAPPY...

In my old congregation about 80% of the sisters were on anxiety and depression meds and about 50 % of the brothers.
They have to pretend they are happy since they proclaim being "the happiest people on earth".
But really, what do they have to be happy about? They are slaves for a publishing cult and are ALWAYS told they need to do more, more, more and more is never good enough!

I have a degree in business and finance.
I cannot tell you how many JWs I met when I was in that did not have adequate retirement savings. If you took a poll, I am sure they would have even less than the U.S. average of ppl who save for retirement, and that number is dismal in itself.
One conversation I had with a brother I told him I put about 20% of my income to retirement and my hubby about 15% and he told me I obviously did not trust in Jehovah to provide. He only put about $50 per pay cycle into a plan and the guy was pushing 50 years old!
I told him as far as I knew, we did not know how long the system would last, If I ended up not needing the $$ then fine. But if I needed it I have it and the only reason we had the $$ in the first place was because we were living the bible directive to "keep your eye simple".
Anyway he had nothing to say after that.

So...why is taking blood essentially viewed as unforgivable by the WT?
by sd-7 inbeen hearing about this 'grey's anatomy' episode, and while i didn't see it, it brought up a question i wanted to throw out there, albeit a long-winded one, as is my usual nature.. the fact that people would rather die than take blood, as if...if they take it, they're doomed for sure to not make the new system--it doesn't make sense to me.
people both in the organization and the bible stories are forgiven for heinous crimes, murder, adultery, child sacrifice, everything up to and including denying jesus altogether.
(let's not forget child molestation and rape, apparently...) so why does it seem like this one act is presented to jws as one that's never to be forgiven?.

Like most of the cults of christianity, the WT is a Mosaic Law Cult. If the WT truly taught the teachings of Christ and the early Christians, then their followers would realize they are "free in Christ" and the WT would have no power over them.
In order to keep their followers in line, they must keep them under the law instead of in Christ. Now they will tell you in theory you are not under law but they prove by their actions and teachings that you really ARE under the law.
The blood issue is a case in point.
Jews were forbidden to eat the blood of lower animals. Where were they told this? In the laws given to Moses hence the Mosaic law.
What was the punishment for breaking one of the laws? That the Jews would be cut off from their people. in that day you could literally be put to death. Since the WT cannot kill you for breaking this law, they have you shunned as if you are dead. That is their way of cutting you off from your people. (Read Leviticus 17:14).
Its pretty simple really.
We were all under a Mosaic Law Cult!

Mental illness does run in families.
Glad you have a great relationship with your kids. I only have 2 and I as far as I am concerned the sun rises and sets just for them. You know what I mean.
You must of had it hard growing up with your mom too. Sorry for that but it seems you broke the cycle with your kids so that is wonderful.
Well, I am glad your cousin cannot put any kids thru hell but I do feel for her. Really her emotions are holding her hostage and it must suck for her that she cannot control herself. I wonder if she would be open to having a good mental health eval? Mental health has come a long way today.
Anyway, good luck to you Terry.

sorry that you are going through that. It does sound like bipoloar or mood disorder. My dad had it and it was undiagnosed until I was an adult. Bi-polars can become very violent. Dad beat the hell out of all 5 of us kids. I have PTSD because of it as well as one of my brothers.
I hope your cousin does not have children. I would tell your BIL to take this very serious. Depression meds WILL NOT work for this disease. She needs a proper mental health evaluation done preferably in a hospital setting.
Once my dad was diagnosed properly when he was in his 50s and on the right meds, he trully was a different person. He was a great grandfather to all his grandkids. He died when my kids were 6 and 8 they are now 18 and 20 and still miss him.
The right meds will make a world of difference.
For now what happened to you sucks but honestly you may be safer being away from her. I found with my dad that he would sometimes focus his aggression on one particular person and then it would escalate to violence.
I seriously hope your family intervenes to help this poor lady.

My Mother taught me not to mistake kindness with weakness. She was a very gentle lady, but was also a very strong one! She was not a JW.

Wow! I just realized how very annoying I must have been when I was trying to witness to my co-workers back in the day.
The experience of looking in from the outside and knowing what we know if very interesting though isn't it? When I talk to witnesses now who do not know I was one, I am immediately drawn to their glazed over eyes and can see the wheels in thier mind turning, trying to come up with the next convincing thing to say.
Really, I don't know how you did not stop and laugh your head off.
