Are you tired of the whole atheist/believer debate?

i'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.

the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.

how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

Just wanted to say there are moral people in every religion and even amongst atheists. And there are unmoral people among all these groups as well. No one should judge and think because they are a believer in God that this somehow makes them more moral or superior to any who don't share their belief. Most of the people who have wronged me in my life and commited acts of abuse against me have been "Christians". Every human has their own moral compass regardless of their beliefs, some just choose to ignore theirs and hurt other people.

I agree with Poppy that we just have to agree to disagree. Since I don't feel I am obligated to convert the world like some Christians feel, I can have good conversations with anyone who asks about my beliefs without arguing to try to prove myself correct. We should find a common ground because regardless of our belief, most humans are interested in the same things: secure future, end of violence in the world, loving families, good health, etc.

I also agree that it is the assumption that believers are stupid that causes the arguement. We are no more stupid or intelligent than unbelievers. We have a right to our opinion and unbelievers a right to theirs. We should not even bring up our opinion unless we are asked. But need to use discretion to make sure the person asking is sincere and not just looking for an arguement.

Thank you for your reply. I see you mentioned you are an atheist so I will keep this short becasue you seemed to have your mind made up anyway.

Most people loose trust in God because of the false gospel that many Christians today preach. Instead of being messengers of Reconciliation like Paul said he was, they become messengers of Doom. Many words in the Bible need to be looked at in their context and also for their proper meaning. For instance everlasting fire, just denotes being destroyed permamently not being in a literal fiery hell. Unfortunately, many Christians take these terms literally when they are not. The term Judgement in the bible is another one. This term does not just mean "final judgement" but denotes a trial before hand. You cannot be put on trial without knowing what your sins are. Many today have not learned of Christ at all. Most of the world is not Christian. And those who have of him, because of taking terms too literal in the Bible have received a false gospel. I am currently working on an article about this subject. If the Bible says "God loved the World, thus sent his only begotton-son", many find this hard to reconcile with an Evil God that would destroy most of mankind. And with good reason.

For those of us knowing the true gospel, we know this is not the case. We realize many portray our God who is so loving and kind as being a vengeful ready to destroy God, which he is not. He is nothing like the Churches portray him. His plan includes saving all who will submit to his Sons reign. But many will not do this until Christ comes himself and opens their blind eyes. Only after that, do the ones not knowing him (this knowing bible scholars agree means those who recognize Christ but STILL refuse to submit) will be removed from the earth.

God has a plan that most have never heard of. Right now, he is only gathering what the bible calls the true Church of God or the Bride to himself. This time is known as the gospel age. The world is not going to be converted at this time. After the church is gathered to Christ, and he comes in his glory, then the nations eyes will be opened to the truth. Only after this time, will they go on trial for their life. If they are repentent, they are not destroyed.

Whatever you believe right now, if you are not part of the Bride, it does not really matter. I just hope you have peace in your life.

Lack of Love, Tons of pharisitical rules and regulations, which prompted me to search the bible where I found out the "truth" was a lie.

Hi famousone,

If you want some information from another source other than the bible on Jesus existance, go to the Library and look up some of the books on the works of Josephus. He was an ancient Jewish Historian and he records information about Jesus. I am surprised you have not found anything at all because many people who are not Christians view Jesus Christ at least as a historical person.

You will not find birth records if that is what you are looking for because all those records have long since been destroyed. I hope this helps.

Dear Scout,

You should really read the scriptures in their full context to get the proper meaning. That verse in Luke was simply comparing the swiftness in which things occured in Lots day and Noahs day with the swiftness the coming of the Lord will be. If you read the whole chapter, it clearly brings this out. That the world will be busy going about their business, and the Lord will arrive upon them without them realizing until it is too late. So nothing in these verses shows that God took glea in destroying all these people and that he is going to do this again in the future. You are simply wrong. So please read it again and ALL the surrounding verses.

In the bible Book of Ezekiel, you may be surprised to find out that God intends to bring all these past nations back from death in the resurrection. The warning example is that he will remove only unrepentant, willful sinners one day off the earth for good. In Ezekiel, God tells what he says to Sodom and Gemorrah when they come back to life. He tells them if they REMAIN in their sins and he takes their lives again, He will not bring them back again. But he is going to give them the ability to NOT remain in their sins. Because you see, God really is loving. Matthew 10:15 states that both these nations will be back for the judgement day. This scripture is echoing Ezekiel. So you see, their destruction is not final.

I hate it when people try to use these examples to scare others into serving God. If you read your bible more carefully you will see that there were reasons that God took peoples lives in the OT but that all of them are coming back again in the resurection. That is why the bible says there is a resurrection of the righteous(which simply means God fearing) and unrighteous (not God fearing).

The bible fortells the bringing back of ancient Sodom, Gommorah, Egypt, Tire, Sidon, all the nations and people God killed. And it explains why their lives were taken. And what lessons were to be learned. But many skip this and pull out only the verses they think will scare people into submission to thier religious group. Any way, if anyone would like to know the real truth of God and his plans for all, believers and unbelievers, please pm me. I will not get into all the scriptures now and a debate on this. I want only those who are truly interested in hearing this message which is the true Gospel of the kingdom to contact me. Thanks.

I think those who react to someone elses opinion and try to name call and tear them down or calls them indoctrinated by the WT are the real ones who are still indoctrinated. Because that is what the WT taught them. If they disagree, instead of asking why someone feels the way they do, and getting more information, they just react with a disrespectful response to make fun of the person's position.

This is exactly what the WT does to people outside of the JWs.

This is a good lesson for me and others who are believers, not to even respond to someone who starts off being confrontational in the very beginning. I only responded to try to give a limited opinion which is not even the whole story, because I thought I could help someone who is very angry, feel better. My mistake, some will just never feel better, they enjoy being bitter.

i know myself, although i have not been disrespectful to anyone and have tried to enter conversations explaining my beliefs only, not to put anyone elses beliefs down, have been called self righteous, condescending, a hypocrite and tiresome today.. i had a similiar problem at another site and chose to leave because it was not encouraging.. come on everyone, lets listen to reason here.

many of us have been thru a literal hell of the wt organization.

and have had our lives in total turmoil because of it.

It seems that some on this board are resorting to name calling and trying to bully other people into believing what they do. I had a similiar problem at another site and chose to leave because it was not encouraging.

Come on everyone, lets listen to reason here. Many of us have been thru a literal hell of the WT organization. And have had our lives in total turmoil because of it. Organizations like that divide people and put other humans down by name calling them as apostates, devil worshipper, worldly and a host of other names. If we have all learned one thing, isn't it how wrong it is to do this? To name call and bully others into a belief system. Or to threaten people with burning in hell or being wiped off the earth for not believing as we do. If anyone believes in a God, what kind of God would he be if this was his message? This is why many people are totally sick of religion and of hearing of God. Because sometimes It causes more harm then good. It is man that has done this. They try to fit everyone and everything into their interpretation of reality. It is not right.

Lets learn a lesson and treat others with respect. I personally believe God has a plan for everyone. Believers and unbelievers but if any have a different belief, that is o.k. too. All human beings have a right to their own belief system. This is a basic right of all. We are all born free to choose our own path. My path may not be right for you and yours for me. But really, who are any of us to judge.

I am so upset right now, I need a break from the board tonight. Please think about it everyone. Do we want to treat others the way the WT treated us? Would we have not appreciated being able to leave the WT with our dignity intact? We ALL have a right to be treated with dignity and respect. How about it?

It was obviously a joke. No one is taking that thread seriously except for Gregor because he wants to find fault with someone. When you come out of a cult, sometimes humor helps you to resolve issues of anger. I wouldn't actually do that at a JW meeting.

I went back and read your last post about me and you totally again misunderstood what I said. Here is is again.

I WAS NOT SAYING THAT THE WT ORGANIZATION TAUGHT ME TO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES BELIEFS, WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY IS THAT SINCE I WAS IN THE WT AND THEY TOTALLY TREAT EVERYONE BUT THEM WITH DISRESPECT BECASUE THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT BELIEF SYSTEM, I LEARNED THAT IT IS NOT RIGHT TO DO.

AND I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH HOW JUDGEMENTAL THEY WERE TO EVERY ONE ELSE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY BELONGED TO ANOTHER RELIGION. THAT IS A LESSON I LEARNED WHILE IN THE WT, NOT THAT THE WT TAUGHT ME IT.

Now, do you understand. Please read more carefully the posts I have made. I learned a lot about how NOT to treat people from my expereince in the WT.

and I learned not to be abusive to others, too bad you did not learn that too.
