I think the birth process was the final straw for Katie and she finally saw the light and how controlling a man Tom really is (posting signs for the staff, ect.) and something inside her awoke and said "run the other way fast", and hopefully she did. They do say to always listen to that "inner voice".

TomKat: my gut feelings are getting stronger
by Lady Lee inok i don't bother much about celebrities and all this craziness about couples getting together and breaking up is more than likely media blown out of proportion but..... tom cruise and katie holmes .... something here really doesn't feel right to me.. we have older man vs young woman.
clearly a man who has no problem making a spectacle of himself - jumping on the furniture on international tv - she seemed rather shy and subdued.
a man who has no problem voicing his religious beliefs as if he and he alone has the ultimate truth of matters - she not so experienced so follows his beliefs (according to the media).

True Christians neutral in War?
by Van Gogh intoday i re-established contact with an older true - friend who is still a jw.
in the fifty years that he has been baptized he invested a lot of time and effort in helping the needy and elderly, loyally taking up responsibilities in the org as an elder, organizer, speaker and shepherd.
he is still out there as a lowly publisher, tirelessly going from door to door with only his bible.

That Isaiah scripture is a prophecy for the future and has not been fulfilled yet. You can see that if you read it in its entire context. It also does not only apply to the Jehovah's Witness faith. As it says I (God) a will judge matters "respecting many peoples" and the laws will not go out through an organization but thru Gods city Jerusalem. They apply to themselves but are totally misled as to the full meaning. God's purpose is for all the nations in the world to learn not to war and disarm themselves and this will happen by his miraculous intervention.
Isaiah 2
2 In the last days
the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established
as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.3 Many peoples will come and say,
"Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths."
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore. If your friend is saying this applies to the JWs as of now, what about Nation will not lift up sword against Nation any more - is that happening? Of course not. And how is Jehovah settling the disputes of many nations? This denotes not just people from those nations but the governments themselves. As you see, it does not apply to the Jehovah's Witnesses in any way. Your friend is merely interpreting this the way the WT society does, and they are wrong.
Another thing: the JWs although they think they are the only ones who do not go to war - are sadly mistaken. There are Christians in many faiths who do not go to war and other groups as a whole like the Amish, and the Quakers.

Can we talk more about meanings of individual words used in the bible?
by Judas I. ini really enjoyed the feedback i recieved from an earlier post i made.
i was asking about how anyone could actually know the meanings of simple words like "fire" "sea" etc and what they meant to the author of the bible.. all we have to go on is our own understanding of what we were taught by others who didn't write the book as to what "fire" was to them.
if they are wrong...we could be all screwed up trying to translate a book without any knowledge of the basic meaning of the words to the one who wrote it.

Judas,
good point. My hubby thinks I am nuts but I always tell him I have a feeling that when Jesus does come again (if you believe he will), that we will all find out that most of what we thought we knew - well we simply got it WRONG!
Think about it, (I am not saying the bible is not true or has no merit) we are reading someone else's words penned thousands of years ago and addressed to specific people. How can people take it literally today? I am not saying we cannot find the principles apply to us today, but not every word does. We often mix up propehecies that were already fulfilled with events for today. A friend of mine in India recently wrote a paper proving beyond a doubt, using scripture and secular information that most of the "signs of the end" spoken of in Matthew 24 has already happened, to the Jews during the destruction of Jerusalem. Not all, but most. Now I know people say there is always a second fulfillment but what used to burn me up in the KH was when they would try to apply up to 3 fulfillments of the same thing. I mean, come on, where do we cut the line?

This one used to make me laugh histerically at the conventions:
brother/sister finds a huge sum of money and returns it. then they tell the person they give it back to that the only reason they returned it is because "I AM ONE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES". Put in caps to emphasis said in the most haughty way possible!
They do not realize by their own admission they only returned the money to get "brownie points" from Jehovah. Unlike "worldly" people who find money and YES, they also actually return it but do it for no motive at all exept to do the right thing.
I would like to know how many JWs find money and keep it? Now that is news I would find interesting coming from the platform.

Joel Osteen
by jw inclick here: joel osteen ministries: welcome to joel osteen ministries!
i am suggesting this site to all here.
you don't need to belong to his religion to benefit from his speeches.

He is a charismatic speaker but most of his sermons provide only "milk" and not any real spiritual substance. I don't know how he plans on helping other Christians develop in their relationship with Christ. If this is not his motive, than what is? $$ (possibly)

Judas,
In a lot of ways the bible will interpret itself - but a good bible concordance will help. The way I read the bible is this: if I find something that seems to go against another scripture, or the nature of God, I reasearch it to find out why.
For instance, In Romans chapter 11 - there is a scripture that says that God put the Jewish nation into a spiritual darkness himself. Now, by reading this I know he cannot destroy them all in the future for not accepting his son if HE was the one who blinded them to this fact. How can you make someone blind and then destroy them because they cannot see? Is that Love? Of course not. Well upon further reading a few paragraphs down - Paul shows it was so that the kingdom message could not go out to the Gentiles. Many believe God always intended to save only Jews but his intention was and is to save everyone. Now, the reason he did it this way is open to interpretation but if I had not tried to reconcile the verse I read about God blinding the Jews, I would never have known his true purpose. I may then even conclude that he is a crazy, sadistic God, which he is not.
The firey destruction went against God is Love - so upon further reseach, as I said in the last post I found it just met totally complete. For instance Man made governments will be destroyed by being thrown into the lake of fire - which means they can never be rebuilt and every trace of them will be removed. Not that all the people working in the government will be destoyed, just the systems.
Here is another one that does not mean what churches today teach: Go in thru the narrow gate, or door, which leads to life. This gate and road is symbolic of Jesus. Many churches, including the JWs teach that this means there is only one road (they interpret as right religion) for life and one for destruction. Take it or leave it and it usually means believing their narrow minded message. This is not true. If you go to a site like www.biblegateway.com and search these words, (gate and door) you will also find all the scriptures on this and the ones that where Jesus says " I am the door". It is simply saying go in thru Jesus - to immortal life in heaven. Not that if you are on this road you will have everlasting life on earth like the Witnesses teach. This life is "immortal" only and heavenly and applies only to Christians whose hope is to be in heaven with Jesus.
What is the difference? Well, the hope to live on earth under the kingdom is not even held out yet, that is what it means. I believe it will be an option as God restores everything back to himself but it is not an option yet. Only the Church is being called to be in heavenly as part of the ruling class at this time. Their reward is immortal life, not everlasting life. At the end of it, (the gospel age) no one will go to second death until they are given the opportunity to respond to the kingdom and have every opportunity available to help them. This is why the gospel is good news, not a message of destruction.
Also when it says "end of the world" - the bible is really saying "end of the age", not the literal world being destroyed but that our age, called the gospel age, will end. The gospel age is the time the church is being called out into a relationship with Jesus. The NWT uses the term "end of this system" and that word is better than world. They should realize by their own translation that end of the system does not mean people, but systems of religion, social order and governments only.
It has taken me 25 years to learn just a few of the words I believed as literal to mean totally something else when the bible was written. Greg Albrecht from the Plain Truth Ministries @ www.ptm.org just wrote a book called "Revelation Revolution" that shows how the words in Revelation mean something totally different than most of us believe also. It had meaning for those in bible times and it can have meaning for us too. It was written in a time of writing style popular back then but not to be taken as literal today. Most people today think of destruction and gloom when they think of this book. The proper view according to Albrecht is the book is a revealing of Jesus Christ written in signs and symbols only. And not an apocolyptic message. My hubby is reading it then I am going to read it. I am also reading another book of his, "Bad News Religion", then I hope to raffle these books off here at the forum so someone else can read. Maybe you can put your name down when I do it. I will have my kids draw names out of a hat.
Anyway, keep seeking and you will find the true knowlege of God. And thank you for bringing up this point. Lilly
P.S. other words having different meaning today: judgment, Gehenna, righteous, unrighteous, destruction, world, sea, these are only a few.

My understanding is that Job was writing from his own pessimistic understanding of God and why he was suffering from affliction and is not to be taken literally. But then again, I could be wrong.

Mary Magdalene
by I-follow-the-narrow-path inif it was proven that jesus, in fact, has a bloodline.
what do you think this will do to religions?
and is it at all possible to prove that mary magdalene and jesus had an intimate relationship?
-
lovelylil
The first poster said "it has been proven that Jesus has a bloodline"
I assume you mean a bloodline that includes children he fathered? I am not an expert in this area but wouldn't you have to have DNA from Jesus or his parents or siblings in order to prove this?
And secondly, of course he has a bloodline - all human beings have a bloodline we can trace even if we never have childen.
I personally don't believe there is any evidence that Jesus was married or had kids, the book is total fiction and is said to be fiction. I saw many shows on this last week and yes, Jesus did have a close relationship with Mary but so what? That does not mean it was sexual. As far as kissing - it was the custom to greet others in the faith with a "holy Kiss" - Paul mentions this in corinthians. Some bible scholars agree that they used to kiss on the mouth.
I know many women with male friends so close to them, they sometimes share a hotel room and sleep in the same bed and NO - they do not have sex. They think of each other as brother and sister. And when I was growing up (being Italian) it was always customary to kiss our friends hello on the mouth, male and female.
As far as Mary being the deciple Jesus loved more than the others, I always thought that was the Apostle John who was loved like this. I could be wrong - as a matter of fact I am going to look that up in the bible and see if I can find the scripture that says that. It is possible that it is Mary. But I know John was the one who used to lean on the Lord's bossom - Not Mary.
But Jesus was unique in his view of women. I recently wrote an article on this which Randy put on his website under womans issues - you can read it there. But if anyone would like to print and read it, pm me your email and I will send it to you.
