What Do You Think About The "Faithful&Discreet Slave Class"?
by minimus inthere are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.
i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".
why can't jws see thru this??

Because they're blind... like I used to be blind. This was my opinion when I first found this board and I was a semi-apologist: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/112336/1.ashx Now though... I know it's just silly. What JW's don't realise, and they would go mad if you pointed it out to them, is that being anointed, is just the same as being a born again.

How will JW's and the Society deal with the upcoming 'Centennial Season'?
by nicolaou inokay so we're still a good seven years away but before they know it the watchtower will have to deal with all those centennials, the 100 year anniversaries they hoped and prayed would never come around.. how do you suppose they'll handle it?
how should we handle it?
what on earth are any long time dubs going to be thinking?.

They'll deal with it like they deal with every other problem they have... they'll ignore it!

Thanks Greendawn, I'm not sure if your response was to me or just a general one, but I do know that the Society is not appointed by God. And I would know this, even if I hadn't heard of this scripture. I was just asking about the Apostles? If they believed the end would come in their time, does that mean they were going against Jesus words? And if they were going against Jesus words, does that mean that they weren't appointed by God either?

R6laser,
You're right, the JWs would probably dismiss it. But they would dismiss most anti-Witness things they're told. What the Society taught in the past is important. I can accept that they would have got things wrong, and that the light could get brighter, but the fact that they were so far away from being right and that so much has changed shows how ridiculous they are. If they had so much wrong then, how can Witnesses be so sure everything is right now? Especially when they would accept any changes to current doctrine without much question as long as it came from the GB. Edit: And thanks for the scan LL, it's very good. -

Drew, Did you ever get a reply to your letter? Anyway, I just asked a Witness about this verse, and he went on about all the signs that prove we're in the time of the end, you know, the tactic of avoiding the question and trying to take the discussion to something they can argue, so I just kept trying to get it back on track till he finally answered it by saying that it didn't apply to the Society (No surprises there) I said 'so the bible doesn't apply to the Society then?' He said 'No it does, just that verse, the Apostles often said the time was near, so clearly it didn't apply to those who were chosen by God.' The apostles did say it was near didn't they? I'm not an apologist or owt like, just asking.

This week's KM guilt-fest
by StillGroggy infor anybody who attended the service meeting this week (or will this week)
notice the guilt-fest article that mentions not working overtime at work or taking weekend trips and missing the meetings.
ugh, any former witnesses remember looking down on people who went to the beach or took trips frequently on the weekends.

Oh yes! I especially liked the example of the young brother (un-named I believe) who forsook further education and a secular career to go and serve where the need is greater.
I think he said something like 'I wish every young person would do something like this so they could feel as happy as I do' -

JW attitude toward death
by love2Bworldly ini was just remembering how when i lost my non-jw brother when i was a teenager, that my witness friends were not very supportive when he died.
he died in his sleep at age 22, and he was a very nice person.
i remember crying at school and my jw friends were like, oh brother it's already been a week!

I remember being upset at my WORLDLY cousin dying of cancer at 26.
A JW said to me, and I quote 'Why are you crying? She has more chance of getting into the paradise now! It's the best thing that could have happened to her!'
I am still in awe at the fact that he must have really thought that would make me feel better? -

Can someone explain why JW's use, "BCE, CE, etc" ???
by WingCommander ini always thought this weird, even as a child.
i think i remember asking, but never really getting an answer.
what does the "e" stand for when they use dates like "607 bce", etc?

CE = Common Era (AD)
BCE = Before Common Era (BC)
They mean the same thing as AD and BC. I have no idea why they choose to use them instead, but it makes little difference.
