Why God refuses to interfere

biblically the answer is very simple: mankind exercise their freedom of choice and in so doing chose to be slaves to sin or the demons if you like.
god respects that choice however foolish it may be.

Here's a question for you, then: if God exists out of time, and can see all events for all Eternity, and if God always does the single correct thing in response to every situation, then can God really be said to have free will? Or is God just another prisoner to the Fate that you believe we are subject to?

Evolution and Self-Sacrifice
by IW indoes the theory of evolution supply the genetic answer to the self-sacrificing nature of many animal parents as well as that of many men and women in general?
when a man or woman risks their life to help someone in danger is their response simply a response to the natural processes at work due to evolution's effect on their dna?
if so, can this self-sacrificing gene be isolated?

Intelligence and especially civilization are anti-evolutionary forces. Evolution is only concerned with reproduction. Think of how much longer old people stay alive now, to no reproductive purpose--civilization is required for this. Think of how many people with congenital problems who would otherwise have died and not passed their genes on now survive and breed because of modern medicine.
For intelligent species evolution stops or changes drastically--it must--when civilization and advanced technology take over. The next hundred years, provided that we don't wipe ourselves out, will be very interesting indeed. -

by Mysterious inyou know how fond jws were of buzz words, the truth, etc.
well one thing i remember vividly is one teenager that referred to someone as being df'd while we were at a party (pronounced dee-effed) and everyone else being so confused.
the jws here never talked like that at all they always said disfellowshipped.

Most of the Witnesses I know (West Coast) use "Dee Efft." Never heard anybody say "Dee Ayed" or "Jay-Dub" though.

Extremely rarely, I experience an synesthetic effect. If things have been very quiet and I have had a lot of time to acclimate to the silence, and a sudden, startling noise occurs, I will experience it both as noise and as a visual effect that is hard to describe, but is much like bright light flashing (like from a camera flash.) The effect disappears in a fraction of a second.

keep trying to get to your meetings remember the sister who walked 2 hours one way to feast at the spiritual banquet , or the bro who crossed crocodile infested waters to get to his meeting.. anyone remember any other guilt trip inducing illustrations?

How about the one where the Witnesses are in some country somewhere that is torn by sectarian violence, and they are stopped at a checkpoint. The guys with guns ask the Witnesses who they are. They say "Witnesses dude!" And so he's all like "fine, what was the daily text this morning?" And they're all "oh noes, we didn't read it yet" and so they get shot on the spot.
That one is great! It's "attend meetings" PLUS "read the daily text." -

Special Campaign announced for September: Creation vs. Evolution
by sir82 inwe had a boe letter read recently.
the september 2006 awake will be 100% dedicated to the "creation vs. evolution" issue.. even the "young people ask" article will be something like "how can i defend my belief in creation in school?
also, i think one of the articles is entitled "does the bible support the notion that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days?".

Did anybody actually read the most recent "Creation" book? The small sized one? They don't really try to argue it on a scientific basis anymore. Someone apparently picked up on the fact that "Life--How Did It Get Here?" was a grave mistake.

Fleshybirdfodder, MySpace has been, at least, making the rounds at the Circuit level in my area. MySpace is part of a general moral panic right now (not just JWs) so it's pretty big news. Our CO warned us of the "dangers" of it. Though as far as I can tell the biggest danger is vomit-inducing page designs on the part of 13 year old girls.
rebel8, HAHA! I know that theory. The funny thing is, I don't know about anybody else, but my wife and I waited until marriage (we were sort of good JWs) and it was a huge production the first time. Didn't go very smoothly. We both realized and commented after that night that there was NO WAY the "spontaneous sex theory" could be true, at least for virgins. You really need to WANT IT the first time.
