jwfacts, that is wholly unbelievable. I mean I believe you, and nothing should shock me anymore, but that one just blows me away.

3.3 million old girl ?
by oldflame inlondon (reuters) - a 3.3 million-year-old skeleton of the earliest child ever found shows the ancient ancestor of modern humans walked upright but may also have climbed trees, scientists said on wednesday.
they found the well-preserved remains of a three-year-old girl of the species australopithecus afarensis -- which includes the fossil skeleton known as "lucy" -- in the dikika area of ethiopia, 400 kms northeast of the capital addis ababa.. "it represents the earliest and most complete partial skeleton of a child ever found in the history of paeleoanthropology," said dr zeresenay alemseged, of the max planck institute for evolutionary anthropology in leipzig, germany.. the skull, torso and upper and lower limbs, including the hand, show both human and ape-like features.
the state of the ancient bones suggest she was buried in a flood which may also have caused her death.. the remains provide the first evidence of what babies of early human ancestors looked like.

Still a theory, same as creation? Nice.
Tell me, what is the physical evidence for creation? Evolutionary biologists (hint: that is materially equivalent to saying "all biologists") seem to have come up with an awful lot of physical evidence for their "theory". -

Statistical effect of disassociating the inactive
by AuldSoul init has been tossed around several times on the forum, and invariably someone pipes up that the wts will never do it because of the adverse effects on the numbers.
there is a glaring flaw in that reasoning.. the inactive are never counted as publishers.
the numbers that are reported are of active, reporting publishers.. if they disassociate every single person who is inactive and refuses to reactivate themselves, the numbers will not be negatively affected at all.

I'm just really not buying this. I don't think there's any significant motivation for them to attempt such an administrative nightmare. Plus: How to define "inactive?" The Society's definition of that term is "one who does not engage in the field ministry." That means there are many attending the meetings who are inactive by the Society's definition. Would this include them, too?

It was in the course of a judicial committee and the question was too explicit to reproduce here. In general terms, it was a question about the exact method that someone used to manipulate someone else's genitals.

Can too many meetings be harmful to a person's spirituality?
by JH ini think so.. the watchtower wouldn't agree with me.
too much of anything is counter productive.. it's like eating a good meal, and 5 minutes later ordering the same plate.
you won't feel like eating because your full.

But don't you see? Jehovah provided manna for the Israelites for over 40 years in the wilderness. It was always the same food every day, but it sustained the Israelites and kept them alive.
We should not complain that the bounteous spiritual food that Jehovah provides through his Slave is always the same, because when the Israelites did that, Jehovah killed them with poison quails.
This is also proof that we shouldn't eat quails. Every time someone in the Bible ate quails, things went very badly for them. Everything in the Bible is there for a reason; don't you think that Jehovah is trying to tell us something about quails?!?!

NEW TRACT
by stillajwexelder insorry if posted elsewhere.
the new tract (kingdom news 37) was released last night.
letter read to congregation.

I am duplicating my comments on that tract from another thread here:
/sigh they really lose a lot of clarity with their one-size-fits-all approach to writing. They want to write a tract once and have it translated into 250 languages, but how bizzare does this statement sound to anyone in the Western world:
"A widely respected religious figure, Jesus Christ..."
Let's see, what else do we have here... How about the list of charges they mount against False Religion:
* Meddles in War and Politics: The Society is guilty on both charges, observe the way they acted towards the Nazis before the WW2 broke out. And besides, saying you're no part of the world because you don't engage in politics, but then taking so many cases to the Supreme Court of many lands to affect the laws there is kind of splitting hairs, wouldn't you agree?
* Spreads False Doctrine: It's easy to prove that the Society has spread false doctrine on many occasions in their history. The law of averages suggests that they are currently spreading false doctrine too. Do they get an exemption from this rule?
* Tolerates Immoral Sex: Witnesses may disfellowship gays, lesbians, and people who have sex out of wedlock, but only when they catch them. The fact that they termed it "tolerates" is telling. They know they can't say that Witnesses are cleaner than non-Witnesses, they can only say that they don't "tolerate" sexual uncleanness. The truth is that "Jehovah's Clean People" are no cleaner than "worldly" people. And the Society has a history of tolerating the most immoral kind of sex of all, pedophilia, with their application of an ancient "two witnesses" rule, a rule that is almost impossible to satisfy in pedophilia cases. This means that pedophiles are routinely effectively sheltered and parents with small children are not notified that pedophiles are present, since the pedophiles are "Biblically" innocent.
Then the tract breaks into typical subjective, theoretical interpretation of Revelation (i.e. the "harlot" is false religion, the "beast" is the world political system, etc...) None of this is objectively proveable, it's just a guess. And you will note that this tract doesn't identify the Beast as the United Nations anymore. Possibly this is because the United Nations is a debating society without any actual political power, and the application of the Beast of Revelation to it never made sense in the first place.
Then what do we have? Ah the qualifications for True Religion. If you read these qualifications you will notice that they are vague, slippery beasts that could apply to almost anyone. To prove that they fit these qualifications, they quote a "worldly" book, Holocaust Politics, saying that if more people had been Witnesses, there never would have been a holocaust. (!!!)
Interestingly for a tract that is supposed to prove that the end of False Religion is near, this tract establishes no reasons for urgency, no explanations why this destruction is nearer now than it was the last time this exact same tract was published in 1973/1974.
Nice try, Society, but no cigar. Buh-bye. -

oldflame, you seem to have taken more from the report than was actually claimed: I don't see where they say the fossil is the skeleton of a human child. In fact, they say the skeleton was of the Australopithecus species.

I am in my 30's now. Apparently, I'm told, this is a time when people become aware of their own mortality. This realization came in close proximity to my realization that in fact, no, I probably won't live forever. It's kind of this double whammy, I guess. Thinking back to when I was kid, and truly believed that I'd never die, is very sad. That fresh-faced, happy little guy, much like my own son, believing that he'd never have to grow old and die. Thinking about that poor deluded soon-to-be-heartbroken kid just kills me.

Elderly JW refused to open her Bible...
by AuldSoul inokay, some of you might have read about my conversation with the elderly lady that was doing street witnessing in conyers, ga. this experience happened this morning ... just looked at the clock, yesterday morning .
i walked out of the local tag office (where we register our vehicles and acquire license plates for the cars) and there sat an elderly lady with current magazines.
being in somewhat of a hurry, i tried to walk a more direct path to my vehicle ... but she thought i was avioding her.

AuldSoul, why do you keep picking on old ladies? They only have a few years left before they die, and they probably have people in the org who support them and help them out.
What you need to do is find those 20something male fresh-from-pioneer-school assholes. Turn THEM around, you've accomplished something.
I dunno, I just keep feeling sorry for the old ladies. I like old ladies. -

3 Million year old pre-human found
by monkeyshine ini don't know if anyone has posted this yet but...just in case.. .

IC, did you read the article?
In fact, nobody is 100% sure that humans descended from Australopithecus. It's possible their race died out without any descendants.
Additionally, they say that the skeleton shares characteristics both of humans (especially in the fact that the child appears to have walked upright) and apes (curved fingerbones, very similar to modern tree-dwelling apes.) The reason they "insist it had anything to do with humans" is because the skeleton has human-like characteristics quite unlike any living modern species of ape.
Evolution is not incompatible with creation. You appear to accept that this happened millions of years ago; therefore you don't believe in a literal interpretation of the Genesis account. That being the case, why would evolution threaten your belief in a creator?
