I can't help you. When my wife wasn't looking, I threw all of ours into the garbage can.

Why is it so many Men agree to take on the Position of an Elder?
by restrangled ini just wonder because with the stresses of earning a living, taking care of immediate family, and getting in little free time that is available, why would anyone want to take on this extra job at no charge, answer to more bosses, and be submited to endless critisizing behind your back for decisions.
it just seems crazy.. r..

I was a pioneer, an MS, and had many responsibilities. 99% of my reason for doing it was for approval from other men and from potential marriage partners.

Have you abandoned the hope of everlasting life?
by Fisherman indo you still believe or nurture in your heart "living forever in a paradise earth" and even never having to die in "this old system"?
or do you now belive in life after death as a spirit being in heaven?
or have you abandoned the hope of everlasting life?

During my 'awakening' from the JW induced coma - I became deeply depressed when I realized I was actually going to die after all and there was nothing I could do about it.
There's a faint glimmer of hope that scientists will be able to extend life significantly but as for living forever, I truly have no realistic hope.
Even now it wrenches my guts out when I think about it. I so desperately don't want to die but I might bloody well have to.dmouse, that is exactly how I feel about it. It practically destroys me every day of my life.

Why does it seem to be unhappy people who are attracted to the JWs?
by new boy ini have had time to think about this........... i was an attendent for many years.......... and looking up and down the rows at every family that was seating there in the khs........... no one was happy!.
i think of my mother (who brought this religion into our house)......she was one of the most unhappy and miserable people you would ever meet!
she was a spiritual orphan with few friends and no real family to speak of.. she got the "good news" back in 1950, that "the world" was a bad place and god, would soon be killing most everyone......she was thrilled!...............

I think about one in ten Witnesses are actually happy.
I put this very question to my wife. "If it's such a great religion, if it's really a spiritual paradise, if it really makes people so happy, then name one happy Witness in our congregation." She thought about for a minute and did indeed name one person (an older married couple, actually).
I had to concede that they were happy. However, my point had been made--nobody else in that godforsaken s**thole of a congregation is happy. Including us. -

by Mary ini'm not sure if anyone's posted this yet, but here are the figures for the 2006 service report.
i highlighted the countries that have either a "0" or negative growth in yellow and i highlighted key countries where the you would expect more growth......i tried looking for england's stats, but i couldn't see it.
i looked under "england" and "united kingdom" but i can't see it.

AK - Jeff, sorry about that--just forget about that whole paragraph. I was confused. The rest is accurate, though.
The real new publisher per existing publisher number is actually 6,491,775 / 101,753 = 63. It takes 63 people to bring in one new one, which sounds a lot closer to the one new person per congregation that you mentioned. -

I didn't see anyone post this yet:
2006 total hours = 1,333,966,199
2005 average pubs = 6,390,022
2006 average pubs = 6,491,775
for an average increase of 101,753 pubs.
total hours / average increase (1,333,966,199 / 101,753) means they spend about 13,109 hours bringing one new publisher into the congregation.
13,109 hours.Considering the fact that, as detailed above, the average publisher spends about eight months in service a month, another way of looking at this is that only one in 1,638 publishers brought someone into the religion; or, alternatively, that it took 1,638 people to convince one person to join. Or that there was only one new person for every 16 congregations (give or take).[Removed for inaccuracy] -

One of the worst things I've ever heard *WARNING: DISTURBING*
by under_believer inhttp://www.onnnews.com/?sec=&story=sites/onn/content/pool/200611/595320162.html.
i realize that human stupidity and evil has always existed, and that it's today's technology (enabling the news media) that brings it out into the open.
but damn if that isn't the worst thing i've ever heard.

Yeah, I mean... I can't fathom what would cause someone to want to kill their own children. That being said, if your sick, deranged psychotic mind (because I cannot conceive of anyone sane taking that course of action) somehow wanted to kill your children, why wouldn't you choose a painless, quick method? A MICROWAVE? DROWNING? Or the woman in Plano that hambeak mentioned, who cut off her eleven-month old baby's arms, and allowed her to bleed to death?
Those are all terrible, awful, worst-case-scenario ways to go. You can't cut off someone's arms without a fucking BONE SAW or other serrated implement. One can only hope that that little girl passed out from the pain before she experienced too much. In that last case, there was a clear failure on the part of CPS and the state mental health institution, and the father. Multiple failure points.
And yet I hear horror stories of people taking their kids to the emergency room with some bruise or broken arm, obtained honestly, and the ER staff calls up CPS and the kids are taken away. I am hypersensitive to any visible bruises my kids carry when I even take them to the pediatrician (though my kids are FAR from having any kind of abused personality markers.) -

Good work, Jourles. I'm glad you're still posting.
Mods, is it possible that some PG violations have taken place in this thread? Depending on how you want to interpret, I see several... at the least, #6, #7, and hopefully #12. :)
I know for a fact that one of my personal posting guildlines has been broken... #1: don't insult under_believer's intelligence.
