Eyeslice, like many here (I turn 50 this year) it has been tough to make new friends. I really don't have any other than work-acquaintances, and some old friends from school that I keep in touch with by email. My wife and kids are Out too, and we have no family In, so that makes things easy. I am in my 6th year of freedom and I haven't had a visitor, ever. But you know what? I don't mind at all. I am at that point in my life that casual acquaintances are enough, my best friend's my wife and we have 3 dogs. So keep your chin up, it's all way better than staying In! Good luck to you, mate!

Wow. That was really interesting! I wonder just how many dub/adventist offshoots there must have been over the years.
Thanks very much for the research y'all.

The last time I was asked was in 1999. I said that if I went I would have to partake. And that's because all the dates of the WTS are bogus. If there's no 1914 then there's no Great Crowd in 1935. If there's no Great Crowd then everyone goes to heaven, or at least everyone should partake out of respect to Jesus. I think that's what triggered the view that "I went crazy and then apostate".

What would the WTS need to do to become a mainstream religion?
by Deleted inthis is a minimus-type question.
but what would it take for the society to mainstream, perhaps like the adventists?

This is a Minimus-type question.
But what would it take for the Society to mainstream, perhaps like the Adventists? My top five in order would be:
1. disfellowshipping never cuts family ties and is restricted to willful acts contrary to christian ethics.
2. blood transfussion become a matter of personal choice, no disfellowshipping.
3. children are permitted to attend school functions so they don't feel so alone, particularly around the holidays
4. service time is no longer kept and not a requirement for attaining some position in the congregation
5. it accepts itself as part of the world, opens its books, turns in pedaphiles, and accepts the consequences.
If this came about I would imagine that 50% of the faithful will leave or just coast along, literature "sales" will drop accordingly and lawsuits would need to be settled. Without the need for expanding factories, the WTS could sell off some property to settle lawsuits and develop a retirement fund for all its full-time workers.
And yeah, pigs will fly!

How serious did you take stuff like this?
by kj inthis is a quote from kingdom ministry, 6/89.
wholesome association.
5 one cannot walk with god while running in association with those of the wicked and sick society that approves of everything that god abhors.

When I was still Borg I had my cousin's son and friend from the UK staying with us during their round-the-world trip. There was a local gathering in a nearby park, so I invited them to come along. It was summer, they were fairly scantily clad and one was wearing a rustic looking cross around his neck. I watched the PO looking at him (and me), disgustedly. I'm sure (even then) that the cross meant nothing but man did I feel uncomfortable, it was like bringing Satan into our midst. A few of the "friends" were very sociable, which took the edge off.

How long did it take you?
by jumper ini spent most of my life waiting for the sky to fall, with most aspects of my life dominated by fear.
iam 37 and havent set foot in kh in over 8 years but at times even today when my brain say things like "dont think you have gotten away with anything gods still going to kill you".
the thoughts dont stay very long or come very often but when they do its out of the blue, and not cool at all.

Hello. I let go of "the God's going to get me" thinking when I learned that there's no such thing as following Satan, a la the WTS. Satan is not out to get you, he's just the boogieman of Jewish legend and was a useful political tool in keeping the early christians in line. Like Santa Claus, he got life of his own. Control-oriented religions use him a lot to suit their purposes, but it's complete and utter bunk. The best read IMHO for getting away from negative thinking are the works of Echardt Tolle, particularly the Power of Now.

Hey Craig! Now that's about the time Prohibition was repealled. Prior to that Rutherford was "importing" booze from Canada, so I guess illegal commerce was the work of Jehovah's representative on earth. You and Katie thawing out ok? I must turn up to the next meet-up, it's been a while. All the best! Glen James

My wife auxilliary pioneered 1989/90 and full-time pioneered 1990/92. I auxilliaried several months during those years, as well as a servant from 1990/94. We faded, got disillusioned, deleted, until we finally woke up in 1999.
