It seems that the Spanish congregations are having a good time with gatherings and picnics and parties, and such. Maybe other cultures are also having gatherings and more, but not the ________. I'm not sure if it is an ethnic thing or a cultural one, but when we were not attending our hall, we would be gathering with the spanish cong.'s and having a good time. It was nice to see people laughing, smiling and having a good time. People dancing and eating, just like other normal people, :)

Elder says no to congregation picnic: Brooklyn says no large gatherings
by truthseeker inour congregation has really gone down in recent months.
the friends don't talk to each other, there have been many disfellowshippings and jc's.. an elder i was talking to in the kh after the meeting says that "he and the other elders would like to have a congregation picnic but can't because bethel disapproves of large social gatherings.".
i looked at this elder and felt sorry for him - it was like hearing a child cry because mother wouldn't let him outside to play baseball.. the cong.

Bible Students, JW posters, and lurkers, please respond
by AuldSoul ini wrote this to someone else, but i think this demonstrates perfectly why i was outraged when i first found out that jehovah's witnesses do not teach that jesus is the mediator for all mankind.
it is true that they possess a different doctrine entirely, but to me the outrageous thing was that they do not actively teach any doctrine regarding jesus mediatorship.
this thread presents indisputable proof of that fact.. in my opinion, it is very important to remember that religions do not tell you the harshest doctrines or the most difficult doctrines to accept during the initial indoctrination phase.. do you have a copy of reasoning from the scriptures?

AuldSoul,
I need some more information about your paragraph about the:
That reconciliation requires a mediator. There is no ransom otherwise. The application of the ransom requires reconciliation through a mediator.
I am having some discussions with my father, and mostly I need factual evidence in order to help him understand things. If I provide someone's reasoning, he will just point out that this is their "Opinion" and leave it at that. He is not JW and is also doing some spiritual seeking on his own.
I never knew this piece of information you are bringing out and I am surely going to ask my wife what she thinks of it.truth.ceeker

This was a funny post by someone who deeply hangs on every letter of the Society's Doctrines. I remember how zealous I used to be for the Org until my eyes were opened and the light became brighter for me to see the truth. How funny it is that the teachings and wordsmithing of the society can be used against them as well. You know, that is the common mistake that almost all witnesses make when they hear some disturbing truth about the society, they all ask, "Where will we go?" It is a safety blanket for them so that they don't feel responsible for their own actions or be held accountable to GOD for their own minds. It is sad though, because they don't have to go anywhere, they only need to open up their hearts and allow the love of The Christ to enter them and be filled with a wonderful, lightly yoked, spirit. But they allow their eyes to be made dim and when someone comes along and wipes away the grime, the bright light of truth hurts their eyes and they go back to the darkness, because they feel more comfortable there.
We will all have to answer for our actions or lack thereof when the time comes.

looking for letter to Circuit Overseers about blood
by lost_sheep ini was looking at ajwrb's timeline of the history of the blood doctrine, & noticed this : 2000 - in the spring, circuit overseers in the united states receive a letter instructing them to inform local bodies of elders not to disfellowship anyone who accepts blood transfusions.
if their conduct becomes known and they are deemed unrepentant, they will be considered to have disassociated themselves.
does anyone have a scan of this letter?

Do you think that those in the wtbts would use guerilla tactics to flush out non-conforming co's and do's in a case like this? Since there was not an official letter, it may have been tightly controlled and if it got out, then the society would have a good idea where it could have come from and take actions to shore up it's wounds.
just curious

Barbara,
Is there a place where we can read the full story found on the 27 pages you wrote? I am very interested in reading about your experiences so that I may share them with my family.

Wow! That is definitely news to me! I once ran into witnesses at several Texas Airports with their booths setup, but this one is by far the most blatant! I can hardly believe it but oh well, if that's where the people are at then the 'fishing' is going to be more productive. During a trip I had from Oregon down through California and across the southern desert states to Texas, I was run-down several times at hotels by what I call - Drive-By Witnesses. They roll up in their cars and offer the magazines and drive off to the next hotel. Amazing is what I thought as I stood for a moment and wondered with great wonder where their hearts and minds were at. No getting out and chatting, no offer of good news, just "Here are some magazine you might be interested in" and poof! they speed off.

Hello Mavie,
I am going through a similar reasoning with my wife. I have been leaking out small amounts of information that I hope will plant some seeds that will open her eyes to the truth. And that the wtbts has been misleading and lying to it's members. Items such as child molestation and the mishandling of the reported cases by the elders. Since we have two young daughters, this is what I am hoping will really make her see how their ways are not safe, especially for children. I have also talked about how the society has been changing their doctrines. This one has not particularly struck any nerve, because I get the sense that things that the society taught us more than two to three years ago is no longer correct and that was the old light. Funny I think about how much things change with certain things and how much things stay the same with others.
Just this past weekend, when we had a visit by two young Mormon elders. She asked, "Why do they say they are from the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints?" I said that didn't she remember that we used to say we were international bible students when we were going door to door not so long ago? I also said that is where the Jehovah's witnesses came from and that the bible students are still in existence today and how Charles Taze Russell left the bible students and made his own sect. I could see that this left a mark in her mind as she was quiet for a few minutes before we talked about something else.my family's journey to the truth

Hello,
Sunday I had a visit by two young men who introduced themselves as Elder so-and-so and Elder so-and-so from a nearby Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have not done much reading on their beliefs and doctrines. So I was wondering if anyone else had some information and what advice you can give. I don't want to be rude or anything like that, but polite and maybe leaving some seeds for them to think about.
thanks,

Need to vent
by caligirl ini am so pissed at the family court system.
did you know that there is a state which shall remain nameless at this point that by law requires child support to continue to the age of 21, or as long as the "child' is attending school (and they have to attend only part time, which at community college is usually 2 classes or about 6 credits) it is bad enough that the majority of teenagers today have an "entitlement mentality", but now there is a law that backs them up!!!
kids don't even have to say thank you because they are "entitled" by the nature of the socialist crappy laws to do it!!

I can relate from a child perspective. When I was younger, I remember my father having to pay child support and braces for a son from another marriage. While I, needing braces badly, did not get them since we didn't have the money. Needless to say, I grew up and forgot about it and got braces later on during my early adult years, using the insurance of my company to help pay for it. It was a bit sad though. I do remember saying that I did end up with my father and him being a good one and teaching us kids well.
