Hello Heron!
Sorry to say I am both a weirdo and a freak. But in a nice way.

i've been posting here for quite a long time, so long in fact that it just doesn't feel right that my wife isn't a part of it.
earlier today i created an account for her with the username heron, she'll know why.
i'm not sure if my wife will ever post here but i would feel much more comfortable knowing she is aware that i do.. this is the one post i am going to ask her to read.. so, i'd really appreciate it if you could say hello to my lovely wife.

today i was woken by two 20 something year old jw guys.
i let them offer the mags and then told them i was not interested in religion.
after the reasoning book comeback i told them i was a jw but left a year ago.
I agree with Purps. You can't always be prepared when someone just shows up at your door. I love the organ transplant logic. He protected his people in the 70's when it was a "new" procedure, but not in the 60s? I suppose Geehomer had to watch the doctors for a decade to see if they had it figured out and was willing to use a few of his loyal followers as "test subjects" before making the official policy. I am actually impressed by these guys. If I had have knocked on your door when I was a dubby and you raised the issues you did I would have gone running back to the car with a case of spontanious diarrhea. Of course that probably wouldn't have happened since I knocked so softly at every door no one without their ear pressed to a glass against the door would ever hear me . I think a congrats are in order!

i thought i should write a big thanks to simon for this board, not only has it been a big eye-opener to me regarding my past and helped me realise how many people have been through the same stuff as i have, but it's through this board that i've met a wonderful woman, michelle (calico ethel).. michelle is beautiful, intelligent, funny and luckily for me has terrible eyesight, i feel very fortunate to have met her and hopefully (presuming i can keep on hiding her glasses!
) we shall be very happy together in the future.
she has rather recklessly and bravely agreed to move in with me and is moving over at the beginning of february.
Awww shucks, you two are making me feel tingly all over! I'm gonna go give my wife a big smooch on the lips! Congrats and all the best in the future!

i know its a question that has been asked a thousand times, but what really made you exit the jws .. for instance, my wife and i, having found out about the u.n., 607bce, failed prophecies etc.
gave all this information to my wifes brother, along with many so called friends.
we came out but the brother and friends stayed in.. the only reasoning i can put on it, is that we made an effort to find out for ourselves what was the real truth, the others were told and given written evidence - but still didnt make a decision.
My wife and I found the whole charade too exhausting, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I was tired of censoring my intellectual curiosity, I was tired of being dishonest about things I really didn't believe in (shunning, homophobia, monthly reports etc...). I was tired of having my wife have to defend me all the time in service because I didn't go out enough even though I was working full time to support her pioneering. The breaking point came when our relationship was threatened by this demanding cult. A couple days into her pioneer school my wife and I broke down in tears and for the first time in three years were actually honest with eachother. We both said, "I don't want to do this anymore." Thus began the fade. Since that night we have been closer than ever.

i dont think i have a particular style.
in fact it changed through different stages of my life.
as a kid i loved reading novels, which changed once i came into my teens, and i started developing interest in hard stuff of natural world, psychology, ancient cultures and mysteries.
Anything I can get my filthy hands on. I rarely indulge in "fluff" novels... once in a while when my brain gets exhausted. I'm a big fan of contemporary literature, but also like the classics. I read a lot of history and science and keep up with current events through periodicals. And of course, the posts on this board by you fine people.

i was just wondering how many ex-jws still read wt literature and if so why.
i have noticed alot of posters here know what the lastest wt or awake magazines are talking about and i was just wondering why do you bother to read that stuff since you left the wt?
If I'm out of toilet paper and in a bind I might get a flash of the cover before I put it to good use.

i just posted a little of my singing lesson experience on black pearl's topic about piano lessons.
i was just wondering if anyone else is a vocalist.

That's my caterwauling. We just broke up though and I'm on to new projects.

remember the proposals from the platform?
usually it was about footing the c.o.
's bill for expenses on his visit, or for paying for floral arrangements for the memorial.
I find it ironic that voting for a worldly person running for political office would get you in trouble...and not voting at the hall would get you in troubleW
Well said... will someone explain that to me?

i'd appreciate advice.. i remember when i was pregnant the following exp was given at a district convention.
an elder said that he started discipling his child from 9 months.
he said whenever the 9 month old made a noise or cried at the meeting he would squeeze her.
I think perhaps I am the first male to post here, and I do not have children, but this makes me sick. I've seen it before in the congregations. Talk about Pavlovian conditioning. Parents striking babies because they are crying (CRYING is the only way babies can communicate!) during a meetingIS child abuse. If I ever saw my niece or nephew get treated that way by anyone there would be definitive action taken. What really makes me sick is what I witnessed as a kid growing up in the ORG. Seeing a really bright kid of a woman who had just recently converted being taken over by the "mental conditioning" of the congregation and the "strong sisters" and be taken out of his mother's arms when he was upset or couldn't "pay attention" (seriously.... even the most easy-going baby raised in the org will rang frequently) to be sternly reprimanded by the P.O.'s wife while he wailed in the B school. I guess I'm being harsh. It did allow her to comment more. I'm sure her child will grow up to be fantastically well adjusted.

despite all the shunning crap - or perhaps because of it - i feel less inclined to take positive action against the watchtower these days.
perhaps it's just a temporary malaise or maybe it's that the organisation i looked up to for so long now seems small, petty and trivial and frankly i just don't want to waste my time and energy on it.. what do you think..
I never harbour any fantasies about the Society crumbling, nor do I have the ambition to take down what I now realize is just a tiny, high control religious group. But I know that it has scarred me, though in a way that pales in comparison to many that post on this board. I know I do need the support of people who have gone through similar things. The duty I feel is to post on this board as openly and honestly as I can, and perhaps if I do so, someone will be helped just as I was when I joined to feel not so guilty, alone and damned as so many of us have. I don't think we can ever destroy our demons, just learn to ignore them, and when they do pop their ugly little heads in our psyche from time to time, be brave with others and laugh at them for what they are.
