How I got my daughter out of the CULT of Jehovah's Witnesses
by hopie inmy husband and i were both raised and baptized as jehovah's witnesses.
my husband was an elder for over 15 years.
during those years when he was an elder, our eyes began to be opened to what was going on behind the scenes, that their organization was more political than biblical.

Met a Laid off Bethel Couple
by doinmypart ini met a married couple caught up in the recent bethel layoffs.
they are a fairly young couple in their mid to upper 30s, i didn't think to ask which department they worked in before being laid off.
the couple was driving cross country from new york to california, and stopping overnight at jw homes along the way.

JULY 15TH WT STUDY ARTICLE QUOTES....
by Mary inwarning: ad nauseam quotes:.
keep free from murmurings - august 14, 2006 study.
par 16: murmuring focuses our min on ourselves and our troubles and pushes into the background the blessings we enjoy as witnesses of jehovah.

Hey Joe,
Great idea, but they'll just ask you to send the money to the headquarters where they will be happy to foreward it for you. Besides, what this brother needs is his "spiritual food at the proper time" so the money would best be spent on ink cartridges. He'll grow new balls in the new system... nice ones... not lopsided.

any of you been treated like this?
by bluebeads ini'd have to say at least 80% of jw's in my area are related in some way or another...kinda makes me feel sick thinking about it.
talk about reproductive anomalies with the gene pool getting so concentrated.... anyways i've noticed that families such as immigrant families or "new" ones who are not related at all to anyone are pretty much left out.
i know family is family... but in the truth isn't every one a "brother" or a "sister".

I grew up in a small town up North, and if you weren't one of the good ol' boys, fo'geddabout it. The amount of nepotism I saw in congregations in terms of appointments, "privileges", and sweeping little indiscretions under the carpet would curl your toes.

Panic attacks and Jehovahs Witness!
by Gill inhow many of you had panic attacks when you were a jw and when leaving?
i know of many jw women and a few men who suffered badly with panic attacks.
since recently having another spate of panic attacks i suddenly realised that i had been having them all my life.

I started getting horrible panic attacks, ones that would make me think so irrationally that suicide seemed the only solution, and it caused me to return to the religion after I had been out for about about two years. The elders told me they were demon attacks. That terrified me even more. The problem was that they didn't subside after I had returned and I wondered what I was doing wrong. I started throwing things out like crazy around the house trying to rid myself of whatever was allowing the demons in. For a solid year I slept with the lights on and kingdumb melodies playing (I can't believe now how terrified I was) I then started doing research online, and really the rest is history. I realised many people suffered from anxiety problems, and that I had to confront my fears and really look at my belief system. Five years later I'm still working on it, but I now know how to deal with it, what to avoid (Kingdumb halls!) and how to talk through it. Gary hit the nail on the head. If you are a Witness, and really swallow what they are jamming down your throat, you are living in a constant state of anxiety, and for me, terror.

Are you embarrassed?
by desib77 indoes anyone else find themselves embarrassed about their jw past?
i find that when people that know what i used to be ask me about it i am completely embarrassed by how foolish their beliefs sound especially things like the blood issue.
i can't stand when someone will say "why did you believe such and such....?

Like many others, only when I was one (I was raised a JW). Now I use it as an ice-breaker at parties.
No one who came in as an adult should feel any shame. Don't you remember at the theocratic ministry school where it was taught that we need to search out those who are going through difficulties in their lives? We heard it constantly because we were in "often worked territory." "You never know if someone has suffered a financial loss, a divorce, a death in the family, etc...." The Witlesses prey on those in dire straights. Anyone who has left, regardless of when they came in, should be proud that they had the strength to stand on their own two feet and reclaim their identity.

Which Event Made You Think That Armageddon Was Around The Corner?
by Arthur ini realize that this topic has been discussed at length, but since i'm new to this site, i wanted to pose the question again.
i ask this question because of the wide range in ages of all of you on this site.
but what about those who had already left the organization before 2001?

I remember 1986, but 9/11 was my wake up call. I saw the flaming towers and thought, "holy sh*t! This thing is actually gonna happen!" After nothing did, I really started having huge doubts and looked at history from a much larger perspective.

Did we really believe in Armaggedon?
by james_woods ini got jolted into a forgotten realization by arthur's world events and time of the end thread.. my personal "truth" was and is - i never even really believed in it!!!.
and, yet allowed myself to get brainwashed into following around like a robot and talking to other people like i did...unbelievable now that i think about it.
but in the back of my mind (what little part was still working on its own) i was just thinking - yea sure.

as my husband refers to it, the lions playing frisbee with the lambs at the never-ending multi-cultural picnic!
LOL!
I felt the same as Under_Believer, it was only on rare occasions that someone on the platform really got me thinking there might be some truth to that BS.

TRUE STORY--I Met F.W. Franz
by under_believer ini have mentioned, before, that i live in the portland, or metro area.
i'm still anonymous, on here, but there is a very large concentration of witnesses in the portland area, and i think i'm pretty safe on this disclosure.
hopefully this next disclosure won't tip my hand to the undercover witness loyalists.

It's ok. You needn't feel guilty. He is in heaven now, and he can tell the angels exactly where to direct the fire and sulphur.
