I really feel for you Zack. It's disturbing how Witnesses take everything so literal. Jesus didn't have the Internet, a car, credit cards, or 98% of the things that we have now a days. So, does that mean that we should not try to live in a manner where we can benefit our family most? Being a Witness means being miserable, depressed, dreary, and mental.

Finally had it out.....
by zack ini told my wife i was going to sell everything: the houses, the investment properties, the cars, the boat, the business and give it all to the poor.
she accused me of being a hypocrite because jesus didn't have any of the things i do, including "a place to lay his head.
" so i lay down the challenge: i told her i would get rid of it all.... tomorrow.

hi
by fedorE ini like the way many of u think.....anyways since early 90's when i was dfd i totally abandoned the society but left my great amazing son in it ....didnt speak to my family except my mom for about 14 yrs and as she always invited me to move back home rent free!
in an empty house they visit from time to time.
i kept thinking: well my dad is getting to be 71 now ..and even tho i still speak in secret to my son (he had to stop seeing me 2yrs ago) maybe ill bs my way back in and i can actually see my son again and reestablish family ties...since i had broken up with my girlfriend.

Why do you need to prove yourself to them anyway... they haven't proven anything to anyone except for how dishonest they are.
Welcome to the board!!

After being so deeply rooted in JW traditions and mind sets, I am sure that it has played on all of our minds for quite some time after finally mustering the strength and will to walk away. I knew that there was always something more than what meets the eye with Witnesses and the Organization. It wasn' until after I came here to this forum that I was able to find the actual information that had been hidden from me. The doubts were removed and I now have a clear mind in why I have walked away. Now that my questions have finally been answered, I can see why the elders and others have gone through such lengths in keeping them hidden. I can't imagine what it would be like if everyone associated with the WTBS actually took a closer look at the information that we have at our disposal. The funny thing is, they have what they need to see these things for themselves, yet, they continue to close their eyes.

Witnesses and Wedding Parties
by karnage ini am a chef at a country club in my area.
this is the season for a lot of weddings and i was told by some other employees about some past jw weddings that was held at our establishment.
i have heard stories about witnesses placing their trash on the floor and then leaving, leaving instructions for our staff to not smell the wedding cake, ring the glass for attention, and no raising glasses in proposing a toast.

I have heard stories about witnesses placing their trash on the floor and then leaving, leaving instructions for our staff to not smell the wedding cake, ring the glass for attention, and no raising glasses in proposing a toast. Now, this has me baffled... why is it wrong to toast the happy newly weds in a fond well wishing?! I mean, shouldn't we all be happy for them and hope that their marriage is long lasting and loving? Why would it be wrong to make a toast in their favor?
From some of the things that witnesses request for their wedding ceremonies or receptions... it's so weird that you can really see how cult like they really are.

Wow, I remember the feelings that I had when I "had" to go out in field service. I was on the track team, football team, had a well known (worldly) girlfriend, and was well known in high school. I was always afraid that we were going to be working in an area where someone who would have known of my "second life" and shared this with whomever I was with at the door. Besides being busted, I just didn't want to spend two hours in a vehicle with "super witnesses" and go from door-to-door knocking in other people's door who couldn't care less about what I had to say about religion.

I was a third generation witness. I was born and raised into a JW family. When I was old enough to venture out on my own, I ran! There were some questions that I had in my early 20's and none of the elders seemed to have answers for or would want to answer them. Then came the personal attacks on my family and I saw JW's in an entirely different light. I've been adding to the distance that I have already put between me and "them" ever since.

Why does the WTS insist everyone sign up for the Ministerial School ?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini never enjoyed giving # 2 talks.
i never enjoyed being at a podium and speaking.
i took drama in high school just to get over the fear of being in front of people and speaking.

I remember when I was a teen and my family and I moved to a new area and started attending a new congregation, I can remember the elders closing in like sharks to blood in the water. They would start out with their initial salutations and then they always ask... so when are you guys going to sign up for the Theocratic Ministry School? As soon as you sign up, you were on the list in less than a month.
I never understood why anyone HAD to sign up for the Theocratic Ministry School. It's not like there is a written law somewhere that says once you reach a certain age in the congregation that you have to join up. Kinda reminds me of registering for the draft when I was 18. -

A warm and hearty congratulations is in order. Now the rumors will fly around in the congregation as the others try to figure out why you were DF'ed in the first place.

This is a very interesting topic. I don't think that I can ever recall a meeting in where the elders had said that they were wrong about something or anything. We are all human and neither of us are perfect... so how is it that the WTS or the elders are never wrong? You never hear anything about a retraction or a "hey, we were wrong" speech or article.
I can recall a moment when I was deeply troubled over something that had occured within a congregation, and I asked the elders about the events that had taken place. The elder first tried to justify the action, but I stuck to my guns and kept throwing questions at him. He was trying to get away from me and told me that he would find me the answer and get back to me. Well... I am still waiting for that answer, and this was years ago.
Being human is also being able to admit that we are wrong at times.
