My dad used to physically and mentally abuse my mom when I was growing up. There were times when we either went to the meeting or didn't go because of how bad my dad would beat her. My dad was a dedicated and baptized brother. He held a gun to her, beat her in the face like she went 5 rounds with a professional boxer, and he cheated on her like it was his official duty. The elders never did anything or say a word about my father's actions. This had always troubled me.
In my late teens, when my mother had had enough, she finally broke down and snapped. She had a relationship with another man and soon the marriage was into divorce. When the elders became aware of my mother's relationship outside of the marriage, then they called her into the back room (I am sure that many people here if not everyone is familiar with "the back room"). One night after a meeting, they interrogated her (like she was a criminal), and then they questioned my sister, brother, and me. None of us gave them any information. We understood what was going on and why things were happening the way that they were. I've always found it interesting how they were all of a sudden interested when my mother stepped out... but when my dad was doing it, nothing was ever said.
My mother was df'd for her affair and my parents were divorced. My dad was df'd about 6 years prior, but not for his abuse of my mother or any of us (the kids). My mother has been reinstated after a short 3-4 year break. -

I'm a gourmet chef, so I always get roped into making the Christmas dinner. I think that I am going to go with a nice ham and make a sweet sauce to go with it. I'm not looking to get too complicated this time. I'm still hurting from Thanksgiving and I cook all the time anyway.

I have never understood how relatives of someone who is df'd can speak to them one day and close them off completely the next day. As long as it benefits them, then it's okay and they can find a way to justify it. But, as soon as you lose your worth or value, then you are out like yesterday's garbage. I have heard that the WTBS have said that you can talk to df'd family membrs as long as it doesn't deal with spiritual matters. This policy seems to vary from one location to the next. Once again, this shows the unity of information that the WTBS puts out to its members.

Did anyone ever rebel to play school sports
by Billzfan23 inhow many of you who grew up in the truth truly loved a sport and fought hard against your jw parents to get to play it?
post your experience here.
my determination to play come hell or high water led to my mother turning me over to the state as a youngster, which then lead to foster care and freedom until i foolishly came back to the borg as an adult.

I played basketball, football, and ran track. My dad was on the verge of being df'd, so I asked him instead of my mother when it came time to signing the permission forms. When I was a senior in high school and I was playing football, I was studying to be baptized at the time. I caught hell at every study for my being on the team. 1 Cor. 15:33 was the theme scripture every waking moment of the study. Eventually, I gave up the quest for being baptized and continued on playing sports in my final year of high school.

What if you refused to be disfellowshipped?
by Billzfan23 inwhat if you were df'ed for apostasy - yet you continued to show up at meetings with a big smile, slapping folks on the back and shaking hands with them, raising your hand to comment on every paragraph, even being visibly annoyed when you are not called on?
file a restraining order?
lock the door?

Wow! They would call the cops on you?! That is a real Christian thing to do! I'm sure that would send a real nice image to those in attendance at the meeting. Can't imagine what I would think if I were in attendance for the first time and I saw something like that happening.

reality check: 95 percent of americans had premarital sexnew york (ap) -- more than nine out of 10 americans, men and women alike, have had premarital sex, according to a new study.
the high rates extend even to women born in the 1940s, challenging perceptions that people were more chaste in the past.. "this is reality-check research," said the study's author, lawrence finer.

Sometimes, you have to take the car out on a test drive before buying it! Just because someone may seem compatible outside the bedroom doesn't mean that they will be inside the bedroom. I am sure that we have all figured this out by now though. I am part of the 95%.

Guess what happened with the new CO?
by MinisterAmos ini'm not particularly fond of the way that the bros fawn over the ranking members when they visit.
after all, there is no rank in the jws right?
that's what they say anyway.. so i rebel and don't go at all when the co or do come to visit.
