It was moments like that that almost made those drone-athons bearable.

slip of the tongue of elder
by DannyBloem in.
this morning the speaker was late and they had to change the wachtower study with the public talk.. the young elder introducing this, was maybe a bit nervous of this happening (although it is certainly not the first time this year), and told that the public intercourse of the wachttower study would be held first, instead of the public discourse.

How do you interact on the board?
by Fe2O3Girl inhow do you use the board?
do you bother reading people's posts when you start a topic, and acknowledge their response?.
do you read all the posts on a thread when you post to see if someone has added more details, or already posted what you would have said?

parakeet
I don't start many new threads; prefer posting on topics others have started. Lately, I've been doing a lot of reading of threads going back to when this site started. There isn't much we're talking about now that hasn't already been covered several times. I would recommend checking out these old threads to anyone who has the time--they're worth it! AlanF, Farkel, metatron, teejay, and many others have made (and continue to make) outstanding contributions and offered great advice.

Great Educational Tool for those studying or thinking of studying with JWS
by sf ini was doing some web surfing and catching up on my reading and came upon a post i hope may help some lurkers and seekers understand better what they are getting themselves into or may have already gotten into, by studying the bible with jws.. i surely hope it is not going against any rule to copy/paste this.
i will not include anything but the text.
i will say though that it is from a longstanding exjw support board that can be found here:.

***Why can't you let people make their own mind up.***
Because JWs don't give you whole picture when they're trying to draw you in. I didn't know about the disfellowshipping policy until two years after I started attending meetings and going out in FS. They're not honest when they tell you Jehovah is a god of love. It's only later that you find out that the entire earth's population (minus 6 million or so JWs) is going to be massacred by this loving god.
***Your the one trying too brain-wash studys into changing their mind***
Telling the whole truth is not brainwashing. Telling people lies about the WTS in hopes of converting them is.
***alot of people are genuinely happier than they were before they found the truth it isn't an act for everyone.***
When I left the JWs, some of my friends and family came with me. The family members who remained are some of the most unhappy, miserable people I know. And that's just for starters. I've never known any JWs who were truly happy, but they were very good at putting on an appearance of happiness. -

A woman that strongly supports the dubs
by greendawn ini was talking with a woman today who admires the jws, though not one of them, and she was telling me things like they are the only people with strong principles and families and the only ones that really try to apply god's laws in their lives and uphold biblical truth.
also that there are many diseased individuals among the blood donors and most donated blood is contaminated so the dubs are doing well to avoid transfusions.
i was going to say to her i am surprised that you did not join them.

Sounds like she's just a dunking away from being a JW herself, so maybe she's already too far gone to listen to reason.

If JWs get reviled at the door
by greendawn inif some jws get reviled at the door by someone who dislikes them how would you feel for them, would you identify with their position, perhaps recalling a similar experience from the past jw days, and pity them or would you say they deserve what they get, because perhaps they shun you as an ex dub.
i would rather pity them for being naive fools.
such incidents make them feel like martyrs that have the truth.

When I was going d2d, I remember getting reviled at the door as a mixed experience. At the time, it was horrible to be treated so rudely, but then we would run back to our car group and excitely tell the others about the "opposition" we faced. It made us feel vindicated. It was really an ugly mix of emotions.
When JWs come to my door now, I just tell them "not interested." -

Thanks, 14401 (love your nickname).
It's too bad the WTS isn't notorious enough for some enterprising journalist to ferret out the details of this successful financial scam. -

Your fears for your children are normal and natural. But if you're living in a constant state of anxiety, you'll suck the joy out of yourself and your family. Protect your children, yes, but enjoy each moment with them as well, and let the future take care of itself. You can drive yourself crazy with worrying about plagues, disasters, and wars that may or may not happen.

fun with CD
by Jerry1 inquestion box.
how should matters be handled when a householder insists that jehovahs witnesses make no further calls at that home?.
when we encounter a sign at the door that strictly prohibits calls of a religious nature and specifically mentions jehovahs witnesses, it may be best to respect the householders wishes and avoid knocking.. .

***17. Does the nonfulfillment of our own premature expectations mean that Jehovah has altered his purposes?***
And note the unspecified "our." JWs may give that a quick read and think "our" means their and the WTS's premature expectations. But if they were to press the issue, the WTS would quickly ignore their own failed predictions and blame the JWs for "their" premature expectations. They've done so many times before. -

The Bible. Despite many reasons to dismiss it why do so many believe?
by nicolaou ina man cannot walk on water, truly dead people do not come back to life and 1 + 1 will never equal 3. these are just a few of the absurd impossibilities that one must swallow and accept in order to 'believe' the bible.. why does the belief that the bible is 'truth' persist?.
men cannot survive a fiery furnace unscathed, the sun cannot stand still in the sky and donkeys cannot speak hebrew.
unless you believe the bible.

Synergy,
***Miracles do still happen. Each breath I take without thinking about it is a miracle. My two children are miracles. I've had the experience of supernatural events in my life. I FEEL the Holy Sprit of God when I read the word and pray. Why would I get that and not from any other book if it weren't from God?***
Adherents from all religions, Christian and non-christian, have reported feelings and experiences similar to yours. You come from a Christian background so you account for these things by looking to the biblical God and Christ. Others account for them by looking to Allah, or the goddess, or divine engery (taoism). The Bible is simply your frame of reference for experiences that people everywhere have had. The Bible is not essential as the source of these feelings; for you, it's your way to explain them.
