I faded from the org almost 30 years ago and have long forgotten (or I should say buried deep) all the WTS crap. I started lurking on this board about 2 months ago, and I'm realizing it's also good to remember and be grateful that I got out when I did.

Ever realize you're forgetting and like it?
by Mysterious init just struck me today how much jw behavior i have forgotten as opposed to the parts that are irritatingly hard to stamp out.
i realized how often i toast, buy meat without checking the label, swear when i drop something, research anything i want on the internet, go to metal concerts, etc.
i think sometimes we don't think of how far we have come but only dwell on how far we have to go and we shouldn't.

A Paduan:
***What does the term "morality" first conjure up in the jw mind ?
1. Caring for the social concerns of others
2. Looking after ones own religious prospects
3. Looking after and grooming ones own body
4. Not having sex (at least not outside the 'sex rules')
5. Obeying the rules
6. Doing what's right regardless of the rules***
If you're asking a question, I would eliminate 1 and 6, then list the rest in order of importance to JWs: 5, 4, 3, 2. -

I wish we could get CI here. I've been a fan of AI for 3 years, but this season was the worst -- Taylor Hicks, for pity's sake! Still debating whether to watch next year's season.

Hi WTFBBQPWNT,
On this forum we don't talk much about roller hockey or Kenny Rogers. Bathroom ballet has potential, though. What we do like to talk about is JWs and the WTS. So, dish--what's your connection?
BTW, I think I can guess what the first 3 letters of your nickname stand for. -

Please explain how disfellowshipping is a loving gesture
by McKafka99 incan someone please outline the rationale and scriptures used to support the idea that disfellowshipping is a loving gesture?
i am trying to understand how this behavior is justified, when in my mind in seems a simple matter; one only needs ask oneself, 'if jesus (or jehovah) were standing next to you, would jesus (or jehovah), support any shunning-type actions?
' i find it very difficult that the answer would ever be 'yes'.

***How can it make sense to reject disfellowshipping as unloving, yet still have faith in sacred text where God commands stoning? "Please explain how stoning is a loving gesture."***
It doesn't follow that if you reject DFing as unloving, you must accept stoning as loving. It makes more sense that JWs, who approve of DFing someone (thus condemning him/her to a "spiritual death" soon to be followed by physical death at the big-A) would approve of stoning too, if they had the option. DFing is exactly like stoning, just without the stones.
Even for you, sbf, this is a new low. -

How many of you still have friends in the org?
by Nellie ina good friend of mine moved away 10 years ago.
needless to say, we lost touch over the years, but our family always spoke of them warmly and with with great affection.. last week, their daughter looked my son up on my-space and we reconnected.
they've left the organization, basically got fed up with the hypocrasy of the membership.

Zero, zip, nada, zilch. In almost 30 years, not one of those jerks has ever contacted me to see if I needed help or just to ask how I was doing. And I was never DFed or DAed, either.

Your problem? YOUR PROBLEM??? If he's coming around to your way of thinking, he should realize by now that it's the JWs that have the problem! Continued wishes for success in your exit-WTS program. -

Henri sounds like quite a character. Doesn't have much of one, though.

Finally going to college...
by Justice-One ineven though "the end" is so close you could reach out and "touch it with your tonge" i'm going to get my degree.
i have been inactive for more than ten years, but because of the wife i still go to church (i just can't call it "the hall" anymore, at least in my heart) on sundays from time to time.
and guess what, when i mentioned that i was going to go to college, i was asked why i would want to do that?

Justice-One,
Good luck with your college courses and with your future career. I can believe it will be much more satisfying to actually stop the bad guys instead of "waiting on Jehovah" to do it. More power to you.
