***For anyone interested there are only three things that have been programmed into a mans brain - primoridal. 1). Sex 2). Food 3). Sleep. ....men seem to lean to the sex side more than anything. Sorry but thats just the way we are made.***
Sorry, sinis, it's just not your day. If sex, food and sleep are the only things programmed into a man's brain, then why do they bother to marry at all? All that's strictly necessary is a job for food, a bed for sleep, and a prostitute for sex. That's as sexist as saying the only things women are programmed for are companionship, commitment and desire for children. I've heard deliquent teenagers and petty criminals excuse their bad behavior by saying, "sorry, but that's just the way I am." It's a cop-out and blames others for their own behavior. Men and women are more complicated than just a few programmed impulses.

They finally made it to my door
by Fatfreek inan suv full of jw's pulled into my country home driveway and a woman and her pre-teen son came to the door.
i greeted them with a warm smile, wondering to myself if they knew who i was.
i doubt they did as they presented me with the single sheet invitation to the little rock district assembly to be held july 14-16. .

Forgot to mention that it was a nice touch of "theocratic warfare" not to tell her about you're having been a baptized JW.

What a gentle, reasoned response, ff! I'm going to print that one out and memorize it for the next time JWs come to the door. Great post.

Thunderstorms: Scare You Now?
by serotonin_wraith in.
i'm fine with storms now but before if i was sleeping and thunder woke me up i'd automatically think this could be the end.. i know an exjw now who gets nervous if there's a storm, she hasn't been able to break free completely from that childhood belief in the back of her mind.. how about you?

I love thunderstorms! Love the drama: the ominous buildup, the wild unleashing of wind, rain and lightning, the gentle aftermath of fresh air and rainbows. Whew! Anyone got a cigarette?

Each time I go to McDonalds I see..........
by JH in.
each time i go to the mcdonalds near by, i see jehovah witnesses there.
either for their morning break in the field service, or just an afternoon coffee, or an evening lunch i'll meet one or a few there.. last night i went to the drive through at mcdonalds, and noticed that the car in front of me looked familiar....and finally i saw that it was a brother.. i'm pretty sure you'll find mcdonald restaurants in the new system .

LOL, greendawn. Perfect analogy. Maybe that accounts for the rumor I heard that Ronald McDonald is a secret member of the gb. -

My response to JWs varies depending on the kind of day I'm having. Sometimes they irk me so badly I want to give them a tongue-lashing for being so clueless. Other days I feel intensely sorry for them for being so clueless. I usually end up taking the middle road -- "not interested" repeated politely as many times as it takes to get rid of them. It's a response they're used to and doesn't upset them or you.

There is no objective, quantifiable proof. Like all afterlife concepts, it's a matter of personal belief, not fact.

How much should a married woman show?
by greendawn indo you think a married woman should go out provocatively dressed?
some of my friends accept it some don't and one had big arguments with his wife about the issue until the time when he cunningly got her to become overweight something that spoilt her good looks.
think of it, a married woman going out wearing tight shorts showing so much leg and buttocks and a top that reveals too much breast, as if almost saying "i am going out to entice some men", should a dignified husband accept that?

***should a dignified husband accept that?***
I think matters of personal taste--clothing, hairstyle, accessories--are individual choices. If I wanted to radically change my hair or clothing, I would ask my husband's opinion, but the final choice is mine. If a "dignified" husband does not like the way his wife dresses, he can tell her so, but it's still ultimately her decision. If he can't "accept" that, the marriage has bigger problems than clothing styles.
***...he cunningly got her to become overweight something that spoilt her good looks.***
That's not cunning; that's vicious and unloving. -

My mom is stepping up her not-so-subtle mind games with kids.
by ithinkisee inmy mom and her new husband (robo-elder with gb connections) have been trying to undermine us as parents so i have been on the offensive stopping it.
we recently left to another state to get away from the jws.
she has been sending letters to my oldest daughter about the assembly.

Sounds like you have the situation well in hand, ithinkisee. My parents tried similar tactics when my son was small. When I would drop him off for a weekend with my mom, she would tell me she would love to take him to the meeting on Sunday. I cut her off with a "no." I didn't need to explain; she got the message. I was fortunate in that they didn't try to do anything behind my back (at least that I know of!).

How Does Having Been A Jehovah's Witness Have An Impact On Your Life?
by minimus infor me, on the positive side, having some religious training did keep me out of trouble growing up.
now, on the other hand.....

I was dragged into the JWs as a child. Being a JW stunted my emotional growth with the result of depression, breakdown and hospitalization in my 20s. Left the cult in my mid-20s.
Thirty years later, it's hard to assess the long-term damage of having been in a cult for 14 years, but I can say it scoured out of me the need for organized religion and belief in god. I look at it now as an early-life catastrophe that I was lucky to have survived.
