There are rules and procedures in place for JC hearings, but they are often ignored by the JC members at will. There are no penalties in place for procedural violations.
The appeal process by the accused almost never is successful, so the whole proceeding is pretty much a kangaroo court. The JC is judge, jury, and executioner rolled into one, and the WTS is very reluctant to get themselves involved in any dispute.
This is why JWs who ask for advice on this forum regarding JCs are often told not to subject themselves to JC proceedings. The JC almost invariably have already made up their minds about the outcome. They just want the accused/condemned JW to sit before them and be forced to listen to their self-righteous tirade before kicking him out.
In spite of their pretensions to fair and impartial judgment, JCs are more like vigilantes intent on stamping out dissidence (real or perceived) in the congregations.

Judicial Committees and the 'Two Witnesses' Rule
by Joe Grundy ini'm not and never have been, etc.. i was not even aware jcs existed until a couple of months ago - but now i understand a lot more from the postings i have read (and i find some them tragic).. two thoughts struck me as an outsider.. the first is to agree with the advice/suggestions given by many posters that submission to the jc process is a voluntary thing.
in the real world any court or tribunal can only act or consider issues if it has 'competent jurisdiction', laid down by law.
a jc only has 'competent jurisdiction' over a jw if the jw consents to that jurisdiction.

Cancer and blood transfusions
by Tigerman in.
does anyone have any factual information as to whether or not blood is ever given to a cancer patient?
i know this is a very generalized question without specifics, however, it's the only starting point i have.

I'm no expert, but I know transfusions are used in certain types of cancers. Someone else with more medical knowledge will have to supply the specifics.

Do You REALLY Believe That A Pedophile Issue Will Bring Down The Watchtower
by minimus ini see the excitement and thrill when a jw gets nailed for pedophilia.
i'm happy when any of these creeps get caught.
but i just don't think that this is what will bring down the organization.

No, there will always be hardcore JWs who will believe up is down if the WTS tells them so. What I hope for from the pedophile scandals is (1) that bringing pedophiles to justice will first and foremost stop their victimizing of children; (2) that the bad publicity generated by this and other scandals will help those JWs who are questioning their faith to question it still further; and (3) that people who study with JWs will become a little more skeptical about JW claims of the high moral standards of their religious leaders.
Anything more than that would be nice but is too much in the realm of speculation at this stage. -

How did you feel the first few meetings you missed?
by Mysterious infor those of you that regularly went and never stayed home sick, etc.
how did it feel when you first started staying home from meetings?

I felt a massive sense of relief not having to endure the endless, droning repetitions of WTS truth du jour. The only serpent in my paradise was knowing my parents would be soon be calling me about why I didn't go.

I Am Here Only To Experience
by FMZ inrecently, i was sat here at my computer, feeling completely hopeless.
life was getting me down, and a few recent bombshells dropped on me were taking me further into the ground.
i asked myself how i could possibly let this happen to my life, how i could find myself in this position..

FMZ,
***I am here only to experience. I am at peace. I am one with all. My life is not my own. My body is simply a tour-bus, and I am the tourist. I exist to feel love, pain, joy and sorrow. All is as it should be. I am here only to experience.***
Your insight is similar to Hamlet's after his moral struggles resolved into a single phrase: "The readiness is all."
Shakespeare still rules. -

***THIS IS GREAT! A perfect opportunity for the justice system to start investigating the JW child abuse guidelines***
To posters who have made remarks like the one above: Please, let's not allow our eagerness to see the WTS's hypocrisy exposed run ahead of the fact that there have been truly nasty crimes committed. Let's spare some thought to the victims, many of whom are children. -

Never trust brothers you don't know!
by 5thGeneration inwell, i broke it to my super devout parents that after this i don't believe there is any reason why i should trust any 'brother' i don't know around my kids.. no way, no how!.
they had to admit this was pretty shocking and enlightening but they still ended up making excuses.
the society will soon have to drop the 'we are better than everyone else' argument for sure.

Wasanelder:
***Everyone is saying that the WTS is saying he's not a real witnoid? Is this quoted from somewhere or is it speculation? He is a definite Bethel freaky boy.***
Yes, he's an "official" JW Bethelite. But the tack the WTS and their dub followers will take is that he only put on the "outward appearance" of a JW, but he was never really one "in his heart." Translation: "Don't blame us or our wacked-out, criminal-protecting, lie-spouting religion for spawning a freak like this guy." -

Quandry,
***Rather than imitate the Society's lack of love, why not reason with the family to show support for all, especially your sister, who must need some attention. Perhaps your reasonableness could influence your mom.***
Quandry, your suggestion is, of course, the best option if all parties agree to be reasonable.
Unfortunately, JWs can be very unreasonable in their absolute certainty of belief. If JW grandparents aggressively ignore the parents' warnings about pushing JW doctrine onto innocent, impressionable children, then the children's welfare MUST COME FIRST.
Being told contradictory things by parents and grandparents and being pushed into a religious tug-of-war is not in a child's best interest.
If grandparents refuse to back down, the parents must, for their children's sakes, take whatever steps are necessary to limit the grandparents' unhealthy influence. It's unfortunate, but sometimes necessary. -

***JWs are BIBLE STUDENTS only. The Governing Body is NOT SPIRIT INSPIRED.
JWS as a whole are NOT INSPIRED
JWs are not the ONLY spokesperson organization of God on earth
THERE IS NO SPECIAL LINE TO GOD that the JW church has (I shit you not)***
Lying, hypocritical, self-serving Theocratic warfare at its finest. I'm so proud to have once been a part of such an upstanding bunch of "not-spirit-inspired bible students who have no special line to god."
