Elsewhere,
Maybe you can pay an elder to exorcise the demons from your car. ("The power of Jaracz compels you! The power of Jaracz compels you!")
As long as he doesn't make the car drive itself over a cliff into the sea! Worth a try, maybe?

by Elsewhere ini just got my mini cooper back from the shop the other day.
it was looking great with all of the damage repaired.......... but then just a few minutes ago i was driving down the highway and something, i don't know what, but something very hard and heavy slammed into my hood ripping three gouges all the way through the stripes and paint and all the way deep into the metal.

Do you LONG to be disfellowshipped?
by nicolaou inquestion to all the inactives.
we all know why we try to do the 'slow fade' - family & friends - but be honest, don't you sometimes just wish that those bloody elders would get on with it and df you?
aren't you sick of the pretense that isn't really a pretense.

After 25+ years of fading, I don't really care much any more. I live 100 miles from my old congo, so I almost never see any of them. As long as my elderly JW parents are alive, I wish to maintain my fader status. After that, they can do their worst.

Do you regret obeying the rules?
by ButtLight ini was talking to my sister tonight.
the elders made a threat to her that if she didnt tell the truth whether my mom was smoking or not, they would df her.
so she turned her in!.

I obeyed all their little rules until I met my future non-JW husband. Then all hell broke loose!
Hi and welcome, Connections. DF means disfellowshipped. -

I'm so disappointed with myself!!
by fullofdoubtnow intrev and i both gave up smoking around a month ago.
we didn't tell many people, hoping that would stop those of our friends who smoke from offerring us a cigarrette.
trev has been meaning to quit for a while, and i joined him when he made the attempt to support him.

I've never smoked and I have asthma, so I can't even be around smokers. But I have a healthy respect for the kind of addiction tobacco can cause. I think it's shameful that smokers are forced to stand outside in the cold to have a cigarette. Surely a more comfortable accommodation could be made that would still prevent smoke from getting into the rest of the building. Everyone knows smoking is harmful, but smokers should not be made to feel like losers because it's tough to quit.
I read somewhere that the more often you try to stop smoking, the higher the odds you will eventually succeed. Don't be disappointed, fullofdoubt. Even the attempt takes courage. Good luck to you. -

My voice of reason Ferrari thread...
by james_woods infor those of you who know me a little from my posting here, i guess you could correctly say that i am a totally committed gearhead.
so, this thread will probably come as a shock, because something happened to someone i know that caused me to do a "voice of reason" post on the subject of fast cars in the hands of people with more money than brains.. my current cars are a 1995 corvette zr1, a 1996 porsche 911 targa, a 2004 corvette z06, a mazda miata, and a nissan 240sx, all black on black.. the porsche is maintained by a local independent dealer who holds the dallas franchise for the german supertuner ruf.
if you do not know this company, on history channel a while back was a segment on the speed-limitless german autobahn.

***my point of view is right now to wonder if this was all worth the risk and cost. Is it not possible to have fun with our cars without going to such extremes?***
My idea of risk is climbing more than 3 rungs up a ladder, so I don't understand what people get out of this kind of insanity. I think it's extremely selfish to indulge in such high-risk sports for fun; it's unfair of the participants to value their lives so lightly. It's unfair to their families by placing them in constant fear for their safety. It's unfair to society, who often must pay higher insurance premiums so the survivors of these stunts can be kept alive or rehabilitated.
If they're not afraid of dying, why don't they channel their energy into helping researchers find a cure for Ebola or train to rescue people in disaster areas. At least the game would be worth the risk. -

My promised whining thread...
by james_woods ini just got back from family court last wednesday.. my mother aged 81 (an ex jw by the way) has an advanced case of altzheimers.
she still knows us and can converse with you, but is becoming increasingly irrational because of the dementia inherent in this disease.
she had been wandering off from her house and getting caught just walking down the street in 5:00 traffic several times in recent months.

Not "whining," James, but "warning." And I'll heed it. It seems in every family, there is always one mean and sneaky snake in the grass. I have a younger sister who has had it in for me since childhood (her reasons would make you laugh), but I know she wouldn't hesitate to do the same thing as your sister, given the chance. Forewarned is forearmed.

JWs do a lot of damage to people, but arson is never an appropriate response. Whoever did it is an immature, reckless coward.

How to leave Jehovah's Witnesses (fairly) painlessly...
by DubBeachBabe inposted this as a response on another thread, but i know there are people who want this as a new discussion.
i'm sure there are many good people watching these discussions who know you want to leave, but also know that this is what may await you - family alienation and pain.
if you haven't already overtly left, my advice to you is this: don't succumb to the disfellowshipping process.

It's nice if you can fade unnoticed until it no longer matters to the elders and JC. Unfortunately, the elders often will come a-gunnin' for you anyway and demand that you demonstrate your loyalty to the WTS. If you ignore them, they'll df you anyway. Just a casual check of the postings during the last week or two will reveal at least a few examples of this JW vigilante tactic.
And I don't think there's a statute of limitations beyond which the JWs cannot touch you. I've been inactive for almost 30 years, but I'm still very careful about revealing personal information.
Never underestimate the malice of the JWs toward those who have left, whether da/dfed or faded. -

After years of fury at stupid drivers, one day I had an epiphany -- No matter how much I yell, honk the horn, gesture, and work myself into a temper, there will always be stupid drivers, and there's nothing I can do about it. Bad drivers are like bad weather--unavoidable.
After that day, I started driving a little slower and let the speed-happy bozos go around me. It's so much more peaceful than trying to compete with them. As long as they don't cause an actual accident, I count my driving experience as a good one. I don't know how I achieved my inner peace in driving; it just happened. If only I could achieve inner peace about the other 1001 things in life that tick me off!
