What an ordeal, Annie! I'm so glad they caught that growth. Maybe now you'll have a long spell of improved health. You deserve it.
Even if you're not put on the official weekly prayer vigil, I have a note on my computer to remind me to send good thoughts your way at least once weekly.

Focus Groups and Interviews of Jehovah's Witnesses
by JW_Researcher inthe following quote is found in a ph.d. dissertation that purports to have secured permission from the congregational overseer to conduct interviews and focus groups with congregation members.
this research was conducted in the usa.
this never would have happened in any of the halls i attended.

The poor schmuck. He wasted all that time and effort trying to understand JWs. He could have saved himself a lot of trouble by checking here first to find out the meaning of "theocratic warfare." -

It is that simple!!
by Rooster injohn 20:30-31
30 to be sure, jesus performed many other signs also before the disciples, which are not written down in this scroll.
31 but these have been written down that you may believe that jesus is the christ the son of god, and that, because of believing, you may have life by means of his name.

***But these have been written down that YOU may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God***
It would be a whole lot more simple if I saw some of these miracles for myself, and not have to take the word of someone who wrote something down 2,000 years ago.
If the performing of miracles was the key for the apostles and others to believe in Jesus, why should we today be expected to accept anything less? They got miracles; we get paper and ink. BIG difference! -

You are doing your son a great disservice by allowing his JW relatives to attempt to indoctrinate him with their agenda.
When my son was young and visited my JW parents, they were absolutely forbidden--by me--to take him to meetings, in FS, or even to "preach" to him. If they wanted him for a weekend, they had to skip the Sunday meeting. If they weren't willing to do that, I picked him up on Saturday night.
You're his mom -- it's your responsibility to protect your child from unhealthy influences. He's not too young at 13 to understand that his mother's desire for his well-being supercedes any other consideration. -

Baptized July 05. Left Dec 05.
by Moomin ini have been lurking on these forums for about 6 months and thought it was time to join in.. i was a child/teen when i first became introduced to jehovah's witnesses through my mum who studied for a while but never fully committed.
i had a study and attended some meetings but it all petered out by the time i hit my late teens and we moved to another town.. for the following 10 years i just lived my life how i pleased.
got married etc.

Moomin,
Such a relatively short exposure to JWs will probably minimize any long-term damage to you. But I'm sure the disappointment you felt when you saw through the WTS lies was as deep as any here have experienced.
Welcome. -

A Bad experience with JW is a permit for SIN?
by El Mariachi ini've been reading some sad experinces here... i dont see anyone talking about the bible... only how misserables the organization made their lives... ok ...so because of that...now i have permission to smoke marijuana and commit fornication?
this sounds pretty much like aa... and everybody having his/her personal "superior power" who is giving them the permit to do whatever they want...
i've been df for 4 years now and also dont agree with some jw teachings... why instead of blaming the wt for everything dont we look for the real truth in the bible and make things right.

***Why instead of blaming the WT for everything dont we look for the REAL TRUTH IN THE BIBLE and make things right***
El Mariachi, "sin" is a relative term that can mean almost anything. You've been DFed, so to the JWs, you are as sinful and evil as they come. So by what authority do you decide what is sinful and what is not?
People have been searching for real truth in the bible for centuries, yet no one can agree on what constitutes real truth and real sin.
If you still believe in god and the bible, by all means search for your real truth there, but don't for a second assume that your definition of truth and sin must apply to everyone else. -

Of all the places to see a dub (kinda funny)

***DANTHEMAN'S A FUNDY!!!! HE GOES TO THAT FUNDY CHURCH!!!***
I know how you feel, Dan. It's exasperating that your most innocent actions are perceived as sinful by JWs.
I've never heard a JW give an exJW the benefit of the doubt. They ALWAYS put the worst possible interpretation on any given situation that involves the exJW.
Examples of this happen often on this board when someone writes in demanding to know why posters here keep "bashing" the WTS. They assume the posters here are simply malcontents trying to stir up trouble for no good reason.
I live a modest, conservative life, but my JW parents invariably attribute sinister motivations to almost everything I do. It's a source of deep disappointment for me that they have almost never given me credit for the positive things that happen in my life. -

Why all the hostility toward WTS?
by hambeak in.
i'm very new to this and please understand, but at one time or another most everyone here was a loyal and faithful witness.. if you disapproove of it or don't fit in as i don't.
why keep pounding at them it is like an obsession.. i would really like to know.

***but at one time or another most everyone here was a loyal and faithful witness.***
I was dragged into the JWs as a child; I was not given a choice. When I became an adult, I left the cult as soon as I was able.
***Why keep pounding at them it is like an obsession.***
Because the WTS destroys lives, divides families, promotes hatred toward everyone not of them, protects child molesters and pedophiles, and denies that it does any of these things.
It's not just that many here are angry and bitter on their own account; it's that the WTS continues to promote its malicious agenda on new, unsuspecting people and their children. If the voices on this site go silent, it will be that much easier for the WTS to get away with their crimes. -

DaCheech: ***What if shunning creates economic sanctions against someone?***
There was a thread a while back about an Amish storekeeper refusing to sell items to a shunned Amish woman. I believe she sued and won, so there are legal limitations to shunning. However, in the situation Mary describes above, the shunning is taking place within the family. However immoral this type of shunning is, it is legal and likely to remain so.
