i was reading about minimus' trip to the hospital and his telling them that he "used to be a jw" but he would take blood now if needed.. it got me to thinking; i don't like telling people that i used to be a jw.
that's in my past and i prefer to keep it there.
if asked about my upbringing or religious preference, i usually just comment on being brought up in a strict religion but i got over it..and then try to change the subject.
I just know they are thinking: "What a dumbass".

I think they see the flaws, but they just dismiss them in their minds. That's what I did.
It took me more than 5 years to fully grasp the "Generation" change and what that meant for me, my family, and the rest of my life.
I mean, if you remember that particular W.T. study, in my hall anyway, it was "new light, no biggie".
So facing that type of mind set, with that reaction for such a huge adjustment, is a VERY TALL ORDER.
So what is the "best method"? Can you lead someone to self- realization? I don't know.

i have a female friend who i've been discussing the religion with.
she definitely has doubts about the org but isn't sure on leaving just yet as she has still got about 6 months to go being a minor dependent on the parents.
lately, she's been getting heavy pressure to start pioneering.
She should just tell them what some told me in the past. "Pioneering is just not on my heart right now, but maybe I can do it in the future". That is an honest answer and will probably gain more sympathy than condemnation.

since realising that this organisation doesn't have the truth, i've started to notice a lot of hypocritical statements from other jw's.
they criticise others for doing the same things they do, though they don't seem to realise it.
as i'm still a part of this organisation, it makes it very frustrating for me to hear these things, and not be able to shout out about their hypocrisy.
How about telling someone about the shortcomings of "Organized" religion and having them tell you "Well, your religion is organized, isn't it?".

i once was assigned a talk on masturbation when i was about fifteen or so.
the theme of the talk was to discourage masturbating (actually to forbid the practice), as it was considered by the society a no no.
looking back on it, it offends me to this day that they would give a kid such a sensitive and embarrassing talk assignment like that.
My question is: What foole of a school overseer would give that talk to a 15 year old, anyway?
