we are having a boy and can't decide on names.
we want something a little different, not in 'the top 10'.
it also has to be english or german orgin.
A friend gave me this advice before I had a baby. She said, "Go to the back door and yell that name many times, and if you can still live with it, O.K." I actually did this and crossed a few names off my list!
Also, some names sound good on little children, but not on adults. Please think of your child and his having to go through life with the name you choose. People with terribly different names sometimes become introverted due to self-conciousness over their name.

Living unhypocritical lives and knowing how to research well means that they learn(ed) by counsel more than most, and less by experiencing the results of poor choices. We are what we eat. If we eat healthy spiritually, then we'll act in harmony with the spirit. It all serves as an inspiration for the faithful. If life can have so many blessings even being imperfect, imagine the joy that can be ours if we can be blessed with perfection, as a result of our dedicated, whole-souled, grateful obedience to those who have the right to be authority figures in our lives.

I have never written to you and never gotten involved in any of your discussions. But several of your comments beg some questions.
1. Faith is proven by its works- do you feel that you are proving your faith by the "work" of writing on this website?
2. Living unhypocritical lives.- do you sit silently in a Kingdom Hall during the meetings listening to talks about having interractions with apostates while no one knows that you are secretly coming to this website?
3. Whole-souled, grateful obedience- Would you characterize yourself as whole-souled and obedient to the mandate from the Governing Body that faithful witnesses must not get involved with websites such as this one?
I am not disfellowshipped (the only thing I have done is come to this website) but have had a hard time understanding some things lately. Do you feel that I am doing wrong by coming here? Could you please answer my above questions? Thank you.

He was a C.O. in 1973 when my husband and I became witnesses. He seemed to be a down to earth kind of guy. I worked in his service group once.

i have had something strike very close to home and i thought i might share it incase someone out there might be thinking the same thing and is trying to put their finger on it.
i should give a small history on it to set it up.. growing up in the truth i was a model young man.
Sorry to say as a good member of the Borg, I would have been giving you wierd looks also. We were taught that the internet was bad, and the society said that one should not go to chat rooms. You were disobedient, you bad boy. Of couse, this overlooks the fact that in the WT it mentions some that were living in Communist countries that met their spouses by being introduced by a C.O. or that others communicated through letters, but that was not the evil internet. so.......

i am highly considering becoming a jehovah's witness.
i have been raised in the congregration, but left it when i was a child because my mom left too, but we still retatined the core belifs including the ressurection and the blasphemous pagan influence on mainstream churches.
my mom has recently returned to the congregation, and it has helped her a lot.
-I do not think that humans have been here a mere 6,000 years. I think for example that Noah's flood may have happened 10-18,000 years ago and have triggered the ice age.
You sound like a very intelligent person. One who does not blindly believe. One that wants facts to back up assertions.
You will not do well in this religion. If you become baptised and still believe this foolishness, and worse yet attempt to speak your doubt audibly to another human being, at first the elders will be mildly upset. Should you state that you still believe it, you could be disfellowshipped for "causing divisions" in the congregation. Then your mother, who has now become more well adjusted, will be forced to shun you completely as though you are dead. No contact whatsoever unless there is some dire family emergency, and this is if she chooses to. If you have read stories on this forum, you will know that many posters found out their parents/relatives died through reading it in the newspaper.
You would have been forced to "believe" prior to 1995 that the generation that was alive and at an age of understanding in 1914 would not pass off the scene until Armageddon. Any who had voiced concern with this date were disfellowhipped. With the publication of the WT article in 1995, you could now no longer believe the prior information published for years as Divine Truth. If you question this, you could be disfellowshipped and shunned by your family........
As of this writing, a big controversy is going on with the year 1935. For many years the WTS said that the annointed calling was closed in this year, and that any who claimed to be of the annointed after this were clearly replacements. Now they are waffling over this teaching. As a matter of fact, the number that they count at the memorial each year of annointed "partakers" keeps increasing. I don't know exactly what an active JW is supposed to believe right now, but if you get baptized, you'd better find out, so that you do not reason on it for yourself. If you question what they currently teach you could be disfellowshipped and shunned by your family..........
If you do make a mistake in this religion, you may or may not encounter men that will strip you of every shred of dignity and self worth that you now posess. They did this with my teen daughter, a straight A student who had never been in trouble. She did not do half the things I did when I was a teen (not a witness) but they decided not to discuss the couple of stupid teen things she did do and to accuse her of fornication. For over two and one half hours they kept forcing her to read scriptures that compared her to Korah, Annanias and Sapphira (Who fell down dead because they lied) and everyone else in the Bible who was a bad example and was punished by God with death. When she finally would not admit to fornication (after they had admitted there was no witness, and no accusation of fornication by anyone) they told her they would not believe her. They demeaned and insulted her in every way possible, then made her read a scripture from Revelation that God views fornicators and liars as filth, and she would burn in the lake of fire with the devil and his angels. Then they disfellowshipped her. She is not shunned by her family. Instead, the WTS is shunned by us.
Whatever decision you make is yours to make. But please go into this with both eyes wide open. Oh, and you will never be allowed to look at this web site again. You could be disfellowshipped and shunned by your family..............

the tempe man knows that most people bristle at the idea of a jehovah's witness at their door.
Karla Montez was involved in after school activities and clubs. She is seeking higher education. In WT speak, that makes her an unfit associate, and she should be marked as such by the congregation. She could be pioneering instead of volunteering in a hospital, where the people will be helped temporarily, not everlastingly by learning about the WTS.
But they are willing to use her to look good in the eyes of the world. In a public forum, they will laud her. Would they do the same from the platform at a District Convention?? I don't think so.........

i would guess that my mother requested the visits but i dont know for sure.
i first had two young men come to the door last summer and we talked for quite a while.
If you answer the door, that's a good start. But it's easier to make sense of the Bible in a discussion with JWs if you have a NWT, try to find to answers for yourself using the cross-references and the Index at the back of it. Also, sitting in the meetings with a notebook and pen helps. As well, if you're at a meeting, you are welcome to arrive 15 minutes early and stay at least 15 minutes late talking with them and having them show you around. I hope these tips help. After all, Keep on ASKING, SEEKING, and KNOCKING (Matthew 7:7-12) is a good way to get the answers we're looking for.
Yes, yes, but the above doesn't answer your question, does it? This advice would probably render a continuation of the "answers" you've been getting. Not answers, really, just, "Come to the Kingdom Hall, take notes, and KEEP ASKING."
Of course, if you are a witness, as your mother is, the admonition to "keep asking" can get you into a lot of trouble. When I was going to the Kingdom Hall, and first heard this-that Jesus was not my mediator, first I was taken aback. I reread the scripture that says that there is ONE mediator between God and man, and yep-it said JESUS. But, now, I was being told that the 144,000 as a class-read Governing Body-were my mediators. Everything that I believe and the judgement as to whether I am a fit human being must go through this class. They will determine if my prayers are sufficient, etc. I knew I was reading something in the Bible that didn't fit with what the WT said ......BUT!!! I knew enough NOT TO ASK QUESTIONS as that would definitely mark me as one who is disobedient, and a questioner of DIVINE TRUTH. My husband was an elder-I was even afraid to speak to him about it very much.
I know that this "new light" troubles many witnesses. If I were you, I would not get off into many other questions with mom. I would continue to ask mom to research this question--the elder husband too. How is this so? Who specifically is your mediator?? Through whom should you pray? How are the 144,000 your mediator while on earth?? Why did Jesus say that there was ONE mediator, him, when clearly the WT says differently? Can they show you how to answer the question using only the Bible?

Just a side note--I think the JWs still think that each creative day was 7,000 years long and obviously this does not account for dinosaurs or ancient plant life. Some time you could ask about that.

Wow. Just when I thought I could not be surprised by anything a JW said or did. How hurtful.
Yes, I was just thinking as I drove down a street near mine, that no longer was a JW woman calling me, asking me to go to school to pick up her child or take her child to school , etc. No one calling me to come to the airport to pick them up or take them to/home from meetings and assemblies. Also, don't have to go clean the KH or pull weeds outside in the baking Texas sun with the few people that showed up to work.
Just one note. There can't be an argument with only one person. How about every time your mom says "You will be destroyed and the birds will peck out your eyes!" you could just say, "Really?" or "Oh.Well, then, I have something exciting to look forward to, don't I?" or something like that. Humor can help. But she is your mom, and take it from someone who has already lost one parent and the other is very old, you don't want a bad argument to be the last words said.
Your health IS more important than making your points heard. If you know it's like talking to a wall, why talk to a wall? When she starts talking the JW stuff, just say "I love you mom. Gotta go. Talk to you later, and hang up."
little drummer boy and i have struggled our entire married lives in just about every way: financially, emotionally, religiously, you name it.
it's like nothing ever comes easy for us.
just when one sorta good thing happens, something a whole lot worse happens and ruins our optimism.
Yes, my husband and I can relate. He left a job with many opportunities for advancement many years ago when we became one with the Borg. I kept working at my low paying job. He did a variety of service low paying jobs. We were able to make every meeting and he became an elder. We struggled financially, and eventually I wanted to go to college (I went one year before the Borg) so that I could get a better paying job. Of course, my obedient elder husband said that this would not be a good example to others, so I could not.
Fast forward. After thirty years, husband began having health problems and could no longer work outside in every kind of weather. I was still plodding along in my low paying job. He was sick and out of work for quite awhile, during which time we used up all our small savings. During this time, he lost the "priviledge" of being the WT study conductor. He was no longer able to get to every meeting and so was no longer a good example.
He then took a course at a technical school to start a new kind of job. Still doesn't pay very well. I am back in school now-cannot really afford it. Can only take one class at a time. My daughter is in a community college close to home. We can't afford to send her to a good school. We have no money for retirement.
We also are barely able to keep paying the house payment. No vacations. But--I will not give up on school. Definitely not for my daughter, and I hope that I can finish. At least, although it is tiring, can you imagine adding time for all those meetings and preaching on top of it? Also, there is less wear and tear on the car, and less gas expense. We were always using our car. Plus, now I don't have to buy all those meeting clothes.
So there are some good spots. Plus on the up side, I have left a little bit of the guilt behind over what a bad person I am, never doing enough.I hope that we can all get some satisfaction in knowing that we are productive, worthwhile citizens of whatever area we live in. As long as we are working we are not a drain on society, nor a problem for authorities. We are doing the best we can for our families. That makes us valuable people.
Hope there is light at the end of the tunnel soon for all of us.

Your mom is clearly terrified of being caught communicating with you and being disfellowshipped for it. It doesn't make what she did right. But it does show that she is conflicted between fear of what JWs can do to her and love for you.
My thoughts exactly. She must live in fear. But really she is already sinning because she did communicate with you. Wonder what her self-righteous family members would do if they found out?
Is this any way to live? You must not speak to your child because someone is watching your every move. Talk about no Christian freedom .
