First of all, what are they trying to accomplish by this video of this woman? Are they trying to make everyone think that the WTS is not to blame because they were not told by professionals that child abuse is wrong? They were of the opinion that worldly psychiatrists and psychologists were wrong to listen to, anyway. Are they trying to say that this escaped their notice, or that no one in the WTS knew that there were any pedophiles in the organization? We know that is false.

What about spiritual enlightnment? Why use the words of a worldly woman? Where is the Bible?

Also, I noticed that, unlike other religious websites, there is no link to history of the WTS to look at. Wonder why.......

Damage control. And not too much of it........

My thought exactly. Aren't the talks "public talks?" Then everyone is invited, aren't they?

Bet the guy at the KH was hopping mad, but wouldn't say or do what he really wanted because of being on camera. Ha!!!

Do You Still Act Like A Jehovah's Witness?

i'm not very far removed, any longer from how i presented myself as a witness, and how i do today.

i'm usually polite, cordial, respectful of others, even those who i may have very little regard for or those who on a regular basis, piss me off.

i work very hard not to use foul language.

Basically, the Witnesses did not write the Bible, nor did they tell Jesus how to treat people. He is the one that loved people, and treated them as he would like to be treated.

So, because I believe that Jesus was a wonderful person, and the things he said are the right way to treat people, I follow his lead.

I don't do this because I was a JW. I do this because I want the world to be a better place because I am in it. I do it because I do not want to act like a jerk. I don't like people who are unkind to others. Never have.

Of course, that being said, I pretty much comport myself in the same way. Because I want my life to be even better, I try not to instantly judge people, the way I did when part of the borg.

I also, still have trouble with saying merry xmas, etc....it was over thirty years that I thought I would die at the big A if I said these things.

so, as many of you know, i wrote a letter three months ago and told my family the goods about this cult... i think i was kind enough yet firm enought to get my point across-let's hope so as i'm not exactly ernest hemmingway when it comes to writing.

here's the best part to come of it.

not one of my letters was ever given to the elders; apparently i'm not going to be disfellowshipped for apostacy-which honestly i could give a big rat's ass less about that one, and best of all, the letter has made it even to people that i didn't even send it to which means it's being passed around.

O.K., I'll add my two cent's worth also.

I just finished watching the video of Bill Bowan of Silent Lambs in front of a KH in Kentucky, I think. He looked personable, well groomed, and was not loud. He was on the local news and looked as though he could be taken seriously.

Remember that there are children going into KHs. If you shout or curse, many will turn away quickly thinking you are some sort of pervert or crazy. You know how they feel that everyone that leaves hits bottom, and is drug-crazed and loony.

Just a thought as I know how I thought about those who picketed Halls previously. But I couldn't understand the ones that looked nice, smiled and waved,and it disturbed me. Inside it made me wonder about the way the WTs portrayed "apostates" when they didn't seem to fit the image.

If you can keep your cool, it may affect someone who is just attending or someone who has begun to have doubts.

general apathy about religion.. i don't know precisely when it happened.

but at some point i began to stop needing anything 'organized' in my life religiously.

not too long ago - as attested to by multiple threads i started here - i was still wishing to replace the ritual of religion at the kingdom hall with some other church.

Ah, yes..... I remember the days when, wrapped within the cocoon of JW thinking, I was also able to instantly size someone up, judge them, make assumptions about them, and feel smug doing it because I had "the truth" and they, well, had no meaning to life......

Glaring contradiction between 1995 new light and Society's authority as FDS

in the 15 october 1995 watchtower the society brought out 'new light' that although christ sat down as king in 1914, but he did not sit down on his 'glorious throne' mentioned at matt 25: 31 in that year.

i cant understand why the society bothered to make this change in 1995?

this change was in some ways more damaging to them than the generation change, because the society essentially sawed off the branch they were sitting on by announcing this 1995 new light.

I was hoping for more discussion on exactly why the GB bothered to bring out this new light since all it does is undermine their 1914 doctrine and damage their claim to authority based on Matt 24: 45-47. But no one seems interested and this thread is running out of steam. Why did they bother to bring out this new light? I think it is because the C.O.s and D.O.s are beginning to hear the deep grumblings of the rank and file and know that they "got some splainin' to do."

But? Can they explain sufficiently for the masses? Well, it seems everyone is as confused by the new "explanations" as ever.

I used to think that I did not have a spiritual outlook and just waited for further explanation, realizing that it might take years in coming and that I probably wouldn't understand it, either......

I think most of what they publish at this time is damage control.....

Street Corner "Witnessing"

so today was a bit of a lazy monday.

first i slept in an extra hour.

then i took my 7 year old son to school, a task usually performed by my wife.

I remember sitting in cars watching as people came and went and planning our attack with SWAT team precision. We would watch for the slow and weak of the herd, usually older ones who couldn't move very fast.

That was hilarious!!! And an apt description, I might add.

I hated parking lot work.

Once, my group went to the local Wal Mart where people were coming and going. When I saw someone coming out, and walked toward them, they'd see me (weren't we easy to spot dressed up as we were with a book bag) and hurry to the car. I'd then head for another person, only to see them hurry away. Eventually I felt like a duck in a shooting gallery, going back and forth. Ha!

i have been reading this board for about 4 years.

after 38 years of being a baptized jehovah's witness, i did some research on the internet and found enough evidence to quit.

that was 4 years ago and i am so much happier now.

Welcome to the forum. We can certainly use an Oracle here.

You are brave to try to help those you can from the inside. You are evidently one who cares. My husband was an elder for twenty years. He also cared for people and tried to help them. I hope it does not eat you up on the inside. You of course have to live with the fact that eventually they will come for you......

Hugs to you. My family was depressed for about two years after leaving. The dissillutionment is awful to deal with. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are all better now. Life is good. The sun shines, little animals are being born this spring, The sky is so blue. We are able to appreciate many things now that we have time to reflect, instead of frantically running to meetings. It takes time to adjust. Hope things will improve for you soon.
