I grew up watching Gunsmoke. My dad loved to watch it, and in fact I think my whole family saw it. We used to set up T.V . trays in the living room and eat dinner while we would watch all kinds of shows like Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Bonanza, Wonderful World of Disney, etc.

Just wanted to add that I do think demons can travel through the computer.
I have had many troubles with mine, and just know it is because I have spoken against the faithful slave...or do I mean the governing body because the slave doesn't share input with the GB, or do I mean the overlapping generation.....or it could be because I am inept at using a computer because I followed the Godly wisdom to not get an education and so know little about using it.....

Is there really a Beth Shan congregation of JWs? Wasn't that the house that had a bomb shelter in the basement or am I imagining that?

i posted awhile back asking for advice on how to go about quitting my bible study and got a lot of excellent advice from people.. i just wanted to thank all of those people they really and truly helped me.. i am really enjoying my new job and finally making some friends on base.
my marriage is doing immensely better.
we are finally getting out and enjoying japan and going to see the shrines i wouldn't see before (satan) and travel more, i didn't have time before with all the meetings.. at my job i work at the phone company on base and when people sign up i encourage them to go unlisted.

And wow...you live in Japan. So great that you are taking advantage of the opportunity to see all you can while you are there. My dad was stationed in Okinawa when he was in the Marines, but I didn't get to go as a child and always felt I lost out greatly. He brought back dolls, jackets with embroidered dragons, jewelry, etc. for me and my mother, but I always wished I could have gone.
It seems like the Japanese Witnesses were really gung-ho at first but we have a poster here-Possible-San, who lets us know that there is a group of ex-JWs there in Japan, so it seems that all over the world BS detectors are going off.
Also seems that you are the go-to person now for all who know someone studying with the JWs. The JWs are not gonna like you very soon! The e-mails may take a different tone....

i mostly post fluff and music posts on this thread more often now but just thought i would let some people here who still know me about what has been goin on with me recently.
my dad about a 7 month battle with lung cancer which metastasized to the bones and he died early wed morning.
my dad was a fascinating man, complex, sometimes open and sometimes a very aloof and detached person.
So sorry to hear about your loss.
My father has been gone several years now. He was in the military for many years, and it was also hard for him to open up and show emotion and also could be somewhat abusive. I think that they were the product of their generation, when men were raised with the mindset that to be a real man one must work and provide for a family, but show little emotion. I am so glad for you that you were able to see another side of him before he was gone.

I was "in" for over thirty years. My husband was an elder for twenty. Although the generation new light isn't what got us out, I can't help but think that eventually the "overlapping generation" would have been too much for me. When they changed the teaching the last time-1995? from the annointed alive in 1914 to people who are wicked I remember asking my hubbie-the WT study conductor, to go over it again, and I still didn't get it. At that point I actually became afraid to say it didn't make sense to me-I thought that I was spiritually stupid. Everyone in the WT study just nodded and went on as if nothing had happened. As I heard it on this forum, mostly the same thing happened when the overlapping generation "new light" was "revealed." Now, from what you are saying, the rank and file are NOT just "absorbing the light." They are beginning to detect BS.
Take things slow with the wife and family. Hope you can successfully fade if that is your wish.

i work in an elementary school as a very low paid teacher's aide.
of course, most of the staff are teachers who are paid three times my salary and have at least a college degree, many with a master's.
every day i have to face the fact that i followed the "godly wisdom" from the gb and didn't get higher education (except the degree equivalent from reading all the wts and awakes-i haven't gone to personnell to see how that would work out).. this morning, a fellow aide that i rarely see was coming in the door at the same time i was.
Just an update.
I couldn't help myself. I looked for this young woman today...found out she is twenty.
I asked her if she was going to school. She said that she'd be starting classes in the fall to become a dental hygienist. I asked if that took a four year degree, and she stated that one could start working after a two year degree but four was recommended. I told her that I knew that the WTS was speaking against higher education, and she said she did not think so. I told her that elders spoke against it but sent their own kids to college, and that at a congregation I used to go to a young woman was disobedient, getting a law degree, and was invited to Bethel as a single sister, so they do reward disobedience. As she began to look uncomfortable and back away somewhat, I said my husband was an elder for twenty years, and know that they had a directive that elders could be removed if they tried to encourage education. At this point she said she had heard something about it.
I said that perhaps she had better be careful not to encourage anyone to go to school, but that I was glad she was getting an education or she could end up like me, someone who wanted to be "Godly" and obeyed the council and ended up in a dead end job with no opportunity for advancement, and very little money. I told her many were like me..close to retirement age but couldn't even think about it.
By this time you could see the desperation in her eyes...she wanted to get away, and was saying that she had to be someplace in the building, and started walking away. I just wished her success and left.
If I have planted a seed, wonderful. At the very least, her guilt level should go up.
some forums/boards have a greetings section for newbies, but i couldn't find one here, so i guess i should post here.. i was an active witness in the 70s and 80s but decided i couldn't conscientiously continue participating so i just dropped out.
unlke many others, i don't have witness family.
thus it was easy to just move & drop out.

Yes, I'll bet if you left several years ago you were indeed confronted with changes. The generation of Matthew 24 has seen a lot of "new light" to the point where it is rediculous...overlapping generations....I'd explain it but to me it defies explantions.
Also...the number of annointed seems to be climbing continuously! I believe it is up to over 10,000. Others can correct me if I'm wrong. It is hard for me to keep up with the celestial chariot these days...

I enjoyed your story. Thanks for sharing. You can never tell what the future holds...I was "in" for over thirty years, and am "out" now. A few years ago I'd never have thought it possible. Age doesn't matter....it's finally getting a belly full of JW stuff that does it, and each person seems to have a different capacity to fill!
